Ultimate Master in the City
Chapter 281: Is Your Head Harder Than Theirs, or What?
Chapter 281: Chapter 281: Is Your Head Harder Than Theirs, or What?
Cyan Dragon looked at the Grand Elder and gritted his teeth. "Grand Elder, I understand now. The Empress tried to pull you into her faction, but you sternly refused. That’s why she had you moved here. It seems she’s deliberately targeting you, trying to drive you to your death!"
Hearing this, Ye Feng chuckled. "This Wu Xiu even tried to recruit you? It seems her ambitions are quite grand!"
The Grand Elder’s expression turned grave. "The Empress has exploited the Emperor’s trust to secretly build up her own power. Ever since the Emperor fell gravely ill, she has practically monopolized control of the court. She is a terrifying woman!"
He then looked at Ye Feng. "Little friend, I’ve heard you’ve had a conflict with her. She’s petty and vindictive, holding a grudge over the smallest slight. You must be careful!"
But Ye Feng just chuckled. "I’m not interested in the court’s affairs; the Emperor is free to handle that. But she’d better not provoke me or my family. Otherwise, I won’t mind chopping off her claws!"
Hearing this, the Grand Elder’s brow furrowed tightly. He looked at Ye Feng with a worried expression and said, "Little friend, you don’t understand. The Empress’s power is immense, and she’s surrounded by masters. If you confront her, you could bring a fatal disaster upon yourself!"
As soon as the Grand Elder finished speaking, Cyan Dragon, who was standing nearby, spoke up with a smile. "Grand Elder, did you know? Sir is also a master of the martial path!"
He then briefly recounted what had just happened at the entrance.
Upon hearing this, the Grand Elder looked at Ye Feng and burst into laughter. "A master at the Martial God level! It seems I was worrying for nothing. Come, let’s drink! Drink!"
The Grand Elder had barely finished speaking when Ye Feng’s phone suddenly rang.
Ye Feng picked up his phone and saw the name: Long Ao.
He answered casually, speaking in a relaxed tone, "Your Majesty, what’s up?"
Long Ao sounded exasperated. "I say, Prince Consort, tonight is your wedding night with the princess. You don’t have to worry about a thing, but you at least have to show up, right?"
Ye Feng, his breath smelling of alcohol, replied, "Your Majesty, to be honest, I really don’t plan on fulfilling the marriage contract with the princess. So tonight, I was just going to go through the motions."
Long Ao chuckled. "Ye Feng, let me ask you this: do you still want the Jade Pendant? And do you still want a look at the princess’s rear end?"
Ye Feng immediately caved. "Fine, I’ll go! I’ll go, alright?"
With that, he hung up the phone.
Ye Feng took his leave of the Grand Elder and rose to his feet with a sigh, heading for the door.
The Grand Elder watched Ye Feng’s departing figure and murmured, "His medical skills are superb, his mastery of the occult is god-like, and he’s a master of the martial path. On top of that, he has the Emperor’s backing. With Ye Feng in the game, the Imperial Capital is about to be turned upside down!"
He had just finished speaking when Xuanwu entered and said respectfully to the Grand Elder, "Grand Elder, Minister of War Wei Tong is here."
The Grand Elder frowned, but finally gave a slight nod. "Let him in."
The words were barely out of his mouth when a middle-aged man in official robes walked into the room. He looked at the Grand Elder, who seemed to be in high spirits, and a flash of surprise crossed his eyes. "Grand Elder, I heard you were ill. But from the looks of it, your complexion seems... quite good!"
The Grand Elder looked at Wei Tong and said flatly, "I’m not dying just yet."
Wei Tong’s eyes turned cold. He looked at the Grand Elder and said, "Alright, I don’t have time to waste with you. I’m here today to announce that, effective immediately, you are no longer to meddle in the affairs of the Ministry of War. You can... retire to the countryside."
The Grand Elder’s brow furrowed at once.
Cyan Dragon, who was standing nearby, flew into a rage. "Minister Wei, the Grand Elder has spent his entire life on the battlefield, risking life and limb for the stability of the Great Xia! He has rendered meritorious service, and now you want to strip him of his military authority with a single sentence? Don’t you think you’re going too far?"
Wei Tong spun around, his face sinking as he glared at Cyan Dragon. "You’re a mere ant. What gives you the right to speak to me like that?"
Cyan Dragon trembled with rage. Just then, the Grand Elder waved his hand, stopping Cyan Dragon, and said calmly, "I am old. It’s about time I retired to enjoy a few years of peace."
Wei Tong looked at the Grand Elder and sneered, "At least you know what’s good for you. You’ve offended someone you shouldn’t have. Your fate was sealed."
With that, he turned to leave.
But just then, a calm voice sounded from the doorway. "I don’t agree to this."
Hearing someone dare to challenge him, Wei Tong’s face darkened. He barked coldly, "You don’t agree? Who the hell do you think you are—"
He hadn’t even finished his sentence when someone rushed forward and a heavy slap landed squarely on his face.
SMACK! The crisp sound echoed as Wei Tong was sent spinning several times. When he finally regained his footing, one side of his face had already swollen up considerably.
Then, a calm voice spoke from behind him. "Now, do you know who the hell I am?"
The newcomer was none other than Ye Feng.
Seeing Ye Feng slap Wei Tong, Cyan Dragon, standing behind them, turned pale with fright.
Who was Wei Tong? He was the esteemed Minister of War, one of the top officials of the Six Ministries. A big shot who could mobilize a million soldiers from the Ministry of War with a single command. Yet Ye Feng had just slapped him like he was some random stray? This... this was just too damn audacious, wasn’t it?
Wei Tong also flew into a furious rage. He whipped around to face Ye Feng and roared, "You bastard! You dare hit me?! You must have a death wish—"
But in the next moment, he got a clear look at Ye Feng, and his expression changed dramatically.
Wei Tong had heard the stories of how three other Ministers had fallen at his hands. He never imagined he would run into this monster here today.
He swallowed hard and looked at Ye Feng, forcing a smile. "Well now, I never expected to run into the Prince Consort here. I pay my respects."
Having to force a smile after being slapped across the face, a stampede of ten thousand alpacas galloped through Wei Tong’s mind.
But there was nothing he could do. He couldn’t afford to provoke the Ye Feng of today!
Ye Feng looked up, lifted Wei Tong’s chin with his fingers, and asked with a grin, "Wen Qiang, the Minister of Personnel, was taken down by me. Sun Hao, the Minister of Revenue, was also taken down by me. And Zhao Yu, the Minister of Justice, was taken down by me too. Do you think your head is harder than theirs, or what?"
Having his chin lifted by Ye Feng in such a demeaning way, Wei Tong was so furious he wanted to stab the man. But he didn’t dare. Not only was Ye Feng the Prince Consort, but Wei Tong had also heard that because he had cured the Emperor’s illness, the Emperor himself was now backing him forcefully. This was a man he could not afford to offend!
So he looked at Ye Feng and cried out hastily, "Prince Consort, please let me explain! This matter of dismissing the Grand Elder was actually Her Majesty the Empress’s idea! I only came here to convey her imperial decree! It really has nothing to do with me!"
’I’ve pushed the blame onto the Empress,’ he thought, secretly pleased. ’Let’s see what you can do. Go butt heads with Her Majesty if you’ve got the guts.’
But Ye Feng just looked at him and chuckled. "The Minister of War is the Minister of War for the Great Xia Empire, not for that bitch Wu Xiu. Understand?"
Wei Tong suppressed his anger and nodded. "Wei Tong understands. I will perform my duties faithfully from now on."
But Ye Feng simply looked at him and said one more thing, and when Wei Tong heard it, he was completely stunned.
