Chapter 378: Chapter 378: What You Fear Is What You Get
Outside the main hall, it was a scene of utter carnage. Blood spattered everywhere as severed limbs flew through the air.
Amid the wretched screams and pained groans of the gravely wounded, the entire estate of Prince Zhenkun had instantly become an Asura’s hell.
The hairs on Qin Nuannuan’s arms stood on end. She looked at Ye Feng, her voice trembling as she called out, "Ye Feng, isn’t this too cruel?"
Ye Feng replied coldly, "When Long Xiaotian slaughtered over eighty members of the Ye family, was he being cruel then?"
As he spoke, the rims of his eyes turned red. "They were my family. They were innocent people! He is simply reaping what he sowed."
Qin Nuannuan wanted to tell him that this cycle of revenge would never end, but seeing the pain on his face, she sighed and said no more.
But a dreadful thought soon occurred to her. She looked at Ye Feng, her face pale. "Ye Feng, you killed Prince Zhenkun. How could the Emperor possibly spare you?"
Ye Feng chuckled. "My father, the Emperor, wanted him dead even more than I did!"
He went on to explain how Long Xiaotian had been plotting to usurp the throne. Hearing this, Qin Nuannuan let out a long sigh of relief.
Her mind at ease, she looked at Ye Feng with a smile. "I haven’t been to the Hundred Flowers Building in ages. The sisters there are all dying to witness your legendary charm!"
’The issue with Wei Qingqing hasn’t even been cleared up yet,’ Ye Feng thought. ’If I go fooling around at the Hundred Flowers Building, it’ll be a miracle if my wives don’t castrate me.’
Ye Feng coughed. "Uh, I have other things to attend to. Maybe another day!"
"What if I’m the one inviting you?" Qin Nuannuan asked, lowering her head as a blush blossomed on her pretty cheeks.
Seeing Qin Nuannuan’s shy, maidenly demeanor, Ye Feng instantly understood her intentions. He blushed and said:
"Sister Nuannuan, I really do have urgent business. Some other time!"
He turned and walked away. After a few steps, he paused and added over his shoulder:
"Sister Nuannuan, if you meet a suitable man, you should marry him."
Without daring to linger a moment longer, he walked straight away.
Hearing his words, Qin Nuannuan felt as if she’d been struck by lightning. She watched his receding figure and suddenly let out a bitter laugh.
"So, you find me unworthy after all!"
Unable to bear it any longer, she opened her mouth and coughed up a spray of blood, then collapsed backward, unconscious.
...
When Ye Feng returned to the Consort Prince’s Manor, he heard a lively commotion coming from the kitchen. He walked in to find several of his wives making dumplings, chatting and laughing as they worked.
Ye Feng walked over and sat beside them with a grin. "Wow, my favorite—chive and egg filling! Looks like I’m in for a treat for lunch!"
But the women, who had been laughing and chatting just a moment before, suddenly fell silent. Not one of them acknowledged him.
Ye Feng paused, taken aback. "What’s wrong?" he asked.
The women continued to ignore him. Ye Feng wrapped an arm around Su Youning, who was folding dumplings with her head bowed, and said with a smile:
"My dear Ningning is always the sweetest. Tell me what’s going on."
Just as Su Youning was about to speak, Nangong Xue shot her a glare. "Ningning, don’t you dare talk to him, or we’ll all start ignoring you, too!"
Su Youning’s pretty face paled in fright, and she quickly lowered her head again.
Ye Feng turned to Nangong Xue with a chuckle. "So you’re the one stirring up trouble, you little rascal. Watch me assert my husbandly authority today!"
He raised his hand, pretending he was about to strike her. Nangong Xue stuck out her chest, glared at him, and roared:
"Go on, hit me! You spend all day out there womanizing, and you think you’re in the right?"
Ye Feng stared at Nangong Xue in astonishment. "When have I ever womanized? Why, just now I even..."
He was about to tell them he had just rejected Qin Nuannuan’s advances, but he quickly snapped his mouth shut.
’Some things are better left unsaid,’ he thought. ’The more I talk, the more holes will appear in my story.’
At that moment, Wang Luyao, who was sitting nearby, could no longer contain herself. She glared at Ye Feng and shouted:
"Not womanizing? Then let me ask you: what’s going on with Wei Qingqing? And what’s this about her mother, Lin Meng, being your mother-in-law?"
Just as Ye Feng was about to explain, Lin Meng walked in. She glared at Wang Luyao and said disapprovingly, "Now listen here, young lady, why are you singling out my Qingqing? Ye Feng has plenty of other women around. Why aren’t you talking about them?"
Plenty of other women?
The women all turned to look at Ye Feng, their expressions growing even stormier.
Dark lines seemed to form on Ye Feng’s forehead. ’You’re just making things more complicated!’ he thought in desperation.
He quickly tried to explain to Wang Luyao and the others, "Aunt Lin is just joking! You all are the only ones in my heart. I’ve said it before, of all the fish in the sea, I only want... a few of you..."
The women’s glares grew even more menacing.
Just then, Ye Feng’s phone began to ring insistently. He used it as an excuse, saying:
"Ahem, I have to take this call. I’ll just take this call!"
He turned, ready to make his escape.
"Take it here!" Nangong Xue said, grabbing his arm.
Ye Feng declared with a show of bravado, "Fine, I’ll take it here! It’s not like I have anything to hide."
He answered the call, put it on speaker, and announced brashly:
"Ye Feng here!"
The words were barely out of his mouth when Xia Yanran’s sweet, coquettish voice came through the speaker. "Darling, I’ve missed you..."
Ye Feng’s hand trembled, and he nearly dropped the phone. ’Of course,’ he thought, ’just my luck!’
Just then, Xia Xingyu’s admonishing voice cut in. "Yanran, what are you talking about!"
Then, Xia Xingyu’s voice turned serious. "Ye Feng, we are preparing to form an alliance with the Great Xia Empire. Yanran and I have just arrived in the Great Xia Imperial Capital. If you’re available, we’d like to trouble you to meet with us."
"Alright, I’m on my way!" Ye Feng agreed with a smile. He then turned to Nangong Xue and the others, grinning. "See? I told you it was official business!"
Nangong Xue glared at him and asked coldly, "And what about the person just now who said she missed you?"
"Oh, that’s Xiao Ruoyu’s sister!" Ye Feng explained with a laugh.
Wang Luyao gave him a smile that wasn’t a smile. "Oh, a pair of sisters? Your tastes are getting more and more exotic, aren’t they?"
"Ahem, it’s not like that! I-I’m off to handle official business. Bye now!" Ye Feng coughed dramatically and beat a hasty retreat.
From behind him, Nangong Xue’s voice followed, tight with anger. "If you have any guts, don’t you dare come back!"
Ye Feng stumbled, nearly falling flat on his face.
’So ruthless!’
He didn’t dare to respond and just scurried away.
Wang Luyao looked at the other women, her teeth gritted. "That scoundrel is out there chasing skirts behind our backs. We have to teach him a lesson this time. I propose we give him the silent treatment. Let’s see how long he lasts!"
She then turned to Su Youning. "Ningning, you’re the most soft-hearted. Don’t let yourself be fooled by his sweet-talking!"
Su Youning’s pretty face flushed. She looked at Wang Luyao and said earnestly:
"But, Sister Luyao, I really do miss him!"
Wang Luyao suddenly collapsed forward, face-planting on the small table. The entire tray of dumplings scattered across the floor.
...
「Imperial Capital,」
「Ministry of Foreign Affairs.」
A pair of beautiful sisters stood there, an entourage waiting behind them.
Her Majesty the Queen of Malaysia, Xia Xingyu, and her younger sister, Xia Yanran.
Xia Xingyu addressed the guard at the entrance politely.
"We are the delegation from Malaysia, here for an audience with the Minister of Foreign Affairs. We would be grateful if you would announce us."
The guard grunted an acknowledgment and went inside to relay the message. A long while passed before he emerged again. He looked at Xia Xingyu’s party and said languidly:
"The Minister is waiting in the hall. Follow me."
Xia Yanran’s brow furrowed. "According to protocol, isn’t your Minister supposed to come out and greet us? Why are we being told to go in by ourselves? That seems highly improper."
The guard turned to look at Xia Yanran with contempt. "A tiny, insignificant nation comes to pay tribute, and you expect our great Minister to personally welcome you? You people clearly don’t know your place. Take it or leave it. If you don’t want to see him, you can go."
