§§§ Chapter 49: At Any Cost

Nangong Shan turned to look at him, frowning. "What’s going on? What’s all the shouting about?"

Sun Hao hurried over, his teeth clenched. "Boss, someone stole Mr. Ye’s Supreme Dragon Card and tried to withdraw money at a Holy Banner Bank branch. We’ve got them."

Hearing this, Nangong Shan nearly had a stroke from excitement. He had just been wondering how to curry favor with Ye Feng, and now, wasn’t this the perfect opportunity?

He stared at Sun Hao and slapped his thigh, yelling, "Stealing Mr. Ye’s card to commit fraud? The audacity! They must have the heart of a Leopard!"

"Pass down my orders! Keep a close watch on this person. I’ll call the police department in a bit. We’re throwing her in jail and making sure she never gets out for the rest of her life."

"And if necessary, it’s perfectly fine to rough her up a bit first."

After speaking, he turned back to Ye Feng, a fawning smile on his face. "Mr. Ye, as long as that card is within the jurisdiction of my Holy Banner Bank, I guarantee there won’t be the slightest problem. You can rest assured!"

Then he spun around, glared at Sun Hao, and roared furiously, "Make the call! Call them now! Immediately! Right away!"

Nangong Shan was inwardly ecstatic. ’This time, I’ve finally managed to kiss up to him properly!’

In that moment, Nangong Shan felt on top of the world. He felt like he had reached the pinnacle of his life, its absolute climax!

But Ye Feng’s next words struck him like a sledgehammer, leaving him frozen and dumbfounded.

Ye Feng looked at Nangong Shan and spoke calmly, "Have you ever considered the possibility that the person you’ve captured... is my wife?"

"Your wife?" Nangong Shan spun around, staring blankly at Ye Feng.

Ye Feng nodded. "Last night, I gave my Supreme Dragon Card to my wife, Xiao Yufei, and told her to go withdraw some money. Now you’re telling me you’ve caught a thief. You’re not going to tell me this is all just a coincidence, are you?"

Nangong Shan staggered violently, nearly collapsing to the floor. He was so terrified he was on the verge of tears. He hadn’t even finished cleaning up his last mess, and now he’d gone and had the man’s wife arrested. This was as good as mortally offending Ye Feng! This was sending himself straight to King Yama’s court!

’What rotten luck today.’

Snapping out of it, Nangong Shan looked at Ye Feng, his smile uglier than a crying face. "Oh dear, this is all a misunderstanding, isn’t it? Oh dear, I’ll take care of it right away..."

With that, he whirled around, rushed up to Sun Hao, and began to punch and kick him, screaming abuses as he did.

"Are you fucking blind?!"

"You’re pushing your old man into a goddamn fire pit!"

"I’ll beat you to death, you son of a bitch...!"

Sun Hao was beaten black and blue, feeling incredibly wronged but not daring to fight back. With a tear-streaked face, he cried out:

"Boss, you can beat me later! The most important thing right now is to get the madam released!"

"Get your ass over there and release her now! When you see the young madam, you will kneel, kowtow, and beg for forgiveness! If she doesn’t forgive you, you can just go die!" Nangong Shan shouted, brandishing his arms and legs as if he wanted to swallow Sun Hao whole.

Terrified, Sun Hao fled in a panic and sped away in his car.

Nangong Shan turned back to Ye Feng, his fawning smile back in place. "Mr. Ye, look at what a mess this has become. Oh my, I am so terribly sorry!"

But Ye Feng didn’t even spare him a glance. He turned, got into his car, and sped toward the Holy Banner Bank.

After being put through all this, Xiao Yufei must be furious. ’If I don’t go apologize myself, my Jade Pendant is as good as gone.’

Watching Ye Feng turn and leave, Nangong Shan’s heart seized. ’He’s angry! He has no intention of forgiving me!’

Nangong Shan was so anxious he was about to cry. He turned and scrambled toward his car, screaming as he went, "Drive! Get to the Holy Banner Bank, quickly!"

The driver rushed over, and the car roared off toward the Holy Banner Bank.

Nangong Shan was on the verge of tears. ’Going myself definitely won’t be enough. It’s time to pull out the big guns.’

He grabbed his phone and made a call. As soon as it connected, he shouted frantically, "Xue’Er, listen, something terrible has happened..."

He quickly explained the situation, then said through clenched teeth:

"Xue’Er, you have to resolve this today, no matter what. You must obtain Ye Feng’s forgiveness, whatever the cost. I mean *any* cost. Do you understand what ’any’ means? If necessary, you can even... offer your innocence..."

...

Holy Banner Bank,

Jiangcheng Branch,

The General Manager’s Office,

A stunningly beautiful woman in a professional suit sat there.

The young mistress of the Holy Banner Group, Nangong Shan’s granddaughter, Nangong Xue.

She scoffed, tossed the phone aside, and muttered with a blush, "’Offer my innocence’? Is that really something a grandfather should say?"

But a moment later, her lovely face grew tense. ’Locking up Ye Feng’s wife... this is no small mess we’ve made!’

She quickly made a call to have the security guards release the person, then stood up and walked outside.

’I’ll be meeting you soon, Ye Feng,’ she thought. ’I’m curious to see just what kind of extraordinary person you are.’

The corners of her lips curled up slightly, and she quickened her pace toward the ground floor.

Downstairs,

The lobby,

Xiao Yufei stood there, her beautiful face ice-cold as she stared at the lobby manager opposite her. "You will give me an explanation today."

Anyone would be furious after being locked up for no reason!

Hearing this, the two security guards’ eyes widened in anger. "Listen here, you bitch! You clearly stole something. Our manager is being merciful and letting you go, but here you are, pushing your luck! You really don’t know your place, do you?"

"Get the hell out of here, or believe it or not, we’ll beat you!"

"You..." Xiao Yufei was about to explode with rage. She glared at the two guards, speaking through gritted teeth, "If you don’t give me a proper explanation today, this matter isn’t over."

The fat security guard’s eyes widened. "Oh-ho, so it’s not over, is it? If we don’t teach you a lesson today, you won’t know who you’re messing with! Hey buddy, let’s get her!"

After they spoke, they lunged toward Xiao Yufei with their arms flailing. But before they could reach her, the lobby manager rushed over from behind. She raised her hands and unleashed a flurry of slaps—CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!—across their faces, cursing as she hit them.

"Are you fucking trying to die?"

The two guards were completely stunned by the beating. They stared at the lobby manager, utterly bewildered. ’What the hell?’ they thought. ’Weren’t you the one who told us to take care of this thief? Why are you beating us up now? Is there no justice in the world?’

But the lobby manager had no time to waste on them. She rushed over to Xiao Yufei, bowing and scraping as she cried out:

"Ma’am, it’s all a misunderstanding! I apologize for our actions. Please, you mustn’t be angry!"

Xiao Yufei stared coldly at the lobby manager, not saying a word.

Seeing Xiao Yufei’s unforgiving expression, the lobby manager was so frightened she almost cried.

Just moments ago, Sun Hao had called and cursed her out, telling her she had offended someone she couldn’t afford to offend. He had ordered her to apologize immediately, and if she couldn’t obtain that person’s forgiveness, she could just wait to die.

’And now Xiao Yufei clearly has no intention of forgiving me!’

The lobby manager stood there, at a complete loss.

But just then, the roar of an engine sounded from the entrance, followed by the screech of brakes. The next moment, a young man in a suit strode in.

The newcomer was none other than Ye Feng.
