Ultimate Master in the City
Chapter 80: A Strict Investigation and the Maximum Penalty
Chapter 80: Chapter 80: A Strict Investigation and the Maximum Penalty
Ye Feng looked at Li Jin and chuckled. "Since you want to play tough, let me tell you how it’s going to be.
You failed to raise your son right, so I disciplined him for you. I don’t want any money. You can just wait to buy your own coffin. You won’t be leveling the Hundred Flowers Building, because today, your post... is mine to take."
"Haha..." The moment Ye Feng’s voice fell, Li Jin erupted in boisterous laughter. "You want to strip me of my position? Who the fuck do you think you are?
You want to discipline my son in my place? I’m standing right here. I dare you to lay a single finger on him..."
The moment the words left his mouth, Ye Feng stomped his right foot down hard.
The sound of shattering bone echoed, followed by a scream from Li Ran that was barely human.
From behind, Li Jin could only watch in horror as Ye Feng brutally crushed Li Ran’s arm under his foot.
Ye Feng looked at Li Jin and said with a grin, "I touched him. So what?"
"You..." Seeing Li Ran’s agonized wails, Li Jin’s eyes instantly turned bloodshot. He glared at Ye Feng and roared, "You dare injure someone right in front of me? You’re asking to die!"
With a wave of his hand, he screamed himself hoarse, "All units! Open fire! Kill him! Kill him!"
As soon as his voice fell, the sound of guns being cocked filled the air.
Everyone present shook their heads and sighed. ’He finally took it too far. Payback’s a bitch. The guy’s about to be turned into Swiss cheese! This is what happens when you provoke someone you can’t afford to offend.’
But just as the officers were about to shoot, a stern voice boomed from the entrance:
"Stop what you’re doing! Now!"
With the words, a square-jawed man in a tunic suit strode in, his hands clasped behind his back. Several people followed closely behind him.
When Li Jin heard someone openly defy him and challenge his authority, his eyes burned with fury.
He whipped his head around to glare at the newcomer and roared, "Who the hell do you think you are? What gives you the right to throw your weight around in front of me..."
But halfway through the sentence, the words caught in his throat as if a hand were clamped around it, and he fell silent.
A moment later, he snapped out of it. He scrambled forward, his face an obsequious mask, and greeted the man, "Mayor Yuan, what brings you here?"
The newcomer was none other than the mayor of Jiangcheng, Yuan Long.
Yuan Long shot him a disdainful glance and ignored him completely, walking straight over to Ye Feng. He addressed him in a warm tone:
"Nephew Ye, I came today to see that justice is done for you."
Nephew Ye?
The great Mayor of Jiangcheng was Ye Feng’s uncle?
Li Jin felt as if he’d been clubbed over the head. He froze on the spot, utterly dumbfounded.
In the next moment, a memory struck him. Last time, when Kong Jun from the Sanitation Bureau wanted to make trouble for Qingya Cosmetics, he’d asked Li Jin to send men to back his play. In the end, not only did Qingya Cosmetics remain untouched, but Yuan Long had personally taken Kong Jun down!
The person who had interfered that time was rumored to be Mayor Yuan’s nephew, a man named Ye Feng. He himself had warned everyone at the department to never, ever provoke this Ye Feng.
But he never imagined his own son would provoke this Demon King. The thought of Kong Jun’s fate made him tremble from head to toe. He scurried over to Ye Feng, plastered a smile on his face, and said:
"Ah, so you’re Nephew Ye! It’s all my fault, I didn’t recognize you. My, what a mess this is. My words earlier were a bit out of line. I apologize, I truly do!"
Just then, Cui Biao came over, glaring at Li Jin as he spoke with a wry smile. "Well now, Director Li, didn’t you just say that anyone who touched your son was disrespecting you and would pay a heavy price? Weren’t you the one who said you were going to level the Hundred Flowers Building and have our boss riddled with bullets? What could you possibly have done wrong? Why would you need to apologize to our boss?"
"You..." Li Jin glared at Cui Biao for rubbing salt in the wound, wishing he could just stab him. But with Yuan Long present, he didn’t dare make a move. He turned back to Mayor Yuan, his fawning smile back in place, and was just about to explain when Li Ran started shouting arrogantly:
"That’s right! My dad is going to level the Hundred Flowers Building today! He’s going to have this guy shot dead to get revenge for me! What about it? You got a problem with that?"
Hearing this, the hairs on Li Jin’s arms stood on end. ’You fucking moron!’ he screamed internally. ’Can’t you see Mayor Yuan is still standing right here? Do you have any idea who you’re talking to? You’re trying to get me killed!’
At this thought, he exploded with rage. He rushed over to Li Ran and began raining down punches and kicks, roaring furiously as he beat him.
"It’s all your fault, you worthless son! Causing trouble at the Hundred Flowers Building for no reason! And even now, you still don’t see what you did wrong! I’ll beat you to death, you little shit! I’ll kill you!"
Li Ran’s shrieks and howls filled the room as he was being beaten.
Just then, Yuan Long, who had been watching from the side, spoke calmly. "That’s enough."
Hearing Mayor Yuan finally speak up, Li Jin breathed a long sigh of relief. He then looked at the mayor with that same sycophantic smile and said:
"Mayor Yuan, this is all my fault for failing to raise my son properly. I will be sure to discipline him thoroughly when I get home."
Yuan Long looked at Li Jin and said coolly, "Abusing the power entrusted to you by the people, bending the law for personal gain—is that what you call ’failing to raise your son properly’?
Acting like a common thug, threatening to level someone’s business—is that ’failing to raise your son properly’?
And ordering your men to open fire and kill someone at the slightest disagreement. Is that also just ’failing to raise your son properly’?"
Each of the three questions struck Li Jin like a hammer blow. The color drained from his face.
Yuan Long then stared him down and said in a cold voice, "Li Jin, I’ve received public complaints about you—that you’re arrogant, abuse your power, and accept bribes. I was just about to call you in to get your side of the story. Now, it seems I don’t have to. I’ve seen your true colors with my own eyes!"
He then looked at a man in a suit behind him and ordered coldly, "I’m handing him over to you at the Disciplinary Committee. Conduct a thorough investigation. If you find anything, prosecute to the fullest extent of the law!"
Hearing Yuan Long’s words, Li Jin let out a pathetic whimper. Like a stray dog with its spine ripped out, he collapsed in a heap on the floor.
He knew it was over. He was completely, utterly finished.
At that, two men in suits came forward, grabbed him by the arms, and dragged him away like a sack of garbage.
Only then did Li Ran finally understand: he had poked the hornet’s nest. He looked at Ye Feng and began kowtowing frantically, shouting in a panic:
"I was wrong! Please, I’m begging you, spare me! I’ll never do it again!"
Before the words were even out of his mouth, Yuan Long spoke in an icy tone. "Since your family can’t discipline you, I’ll send you to a place that can."
With a wave of his hand to the men behind him, he said coldly, "Take him away. Send him where he belongs."
Two uniformed officers came, grabbed him by the arms, and dragged him out.
Once his work was done, Yuan Long left with his men. Before he went, he had someone issue a gag order: anyone who dared speak a word of what happened tonight would be killed.
After all, news of a police director being arrested wouldn’t be good for Jiangcheng’s reputation.
On the surface, the matter was suppressed. But in the shadows, news of how Ye Feng had crushed a police director spread like wildfire.
At the same time, another rumor began to circulate: that this same Ye Feng was the one who had led the charge to flatten the Jiangcheng Martial Arts Association.
BOOM!
When these two pieces of news merged, they hit the city like a bombshell. ’My god,’ people thought, ’he has a foot in both the government and the underworld. He even dared to grind the Martial Arts Association into the dust. This is a true titan, someone you can’t afford to cross.’
The crowd looked at Ye Feng, their eyes now filled with utter dread.
