Chapter 1043: Chapter 633: Persuade Fang Zhou to Surrender? Let the Legendary Enchanting Demon Do It!
Seeing Fang Zhou’s unshaken expression, Leng Feng, whose nerves had been on edge from hearing the enemy army’s rumbling advance, quickly calmed down.
Though their numbers were few, with so many victories both great and small under their belt, everyone in the Calamity Special Operations Team—from the Silver Commanders down to ordinary soldiers—held a near-blind faith in Fang Zhou.
At an order from several Silver Commanders, the Warriors drew their weapons with a collective metallic "clang."
The Magic Professionals and Support Professionals began bestowing various buffs upon the Warriors.
The Calamity Special Operations Team formed up on a terrain in the jungle where both sides were sealed off by giant trees, with a steep slope in the middle.
It was a perfect choke point, only wide enough for twenty people to stand abreast, blocked by massive trees on both flanks that no one could bypass.
Several flourishing big trees on the slope could also effectively prevent the enemy’s arrows from blanketing them.
For the Calamity Special Operations Team, whose numbers were small but whose individual combat strength was razor-sharp, this spot was excellent for defense.
Not long after the Warriors finished their preparations, the vanguard of the Demon Army’s blockade force appeared in Fang Zhou’s line of sight.
A Demon Descendant officer led his unit charging into the jungle.
Seeing Fang Zhou and his men arrayed in tight formation, they were stunned for a moment, then immediately shouted in delight.
"Ha! They really are here!
Quick, send a signal to Lord Viscount—we’ve found them!"
This idiot was so caught up in his excitement he didn’t notice his own feet hadn’t stopped moving.
He and his men had already stepped into Fang Zhou’s effective range.
Calamity Flying Spear!
With a sharp "whoosh"!
A Bone Spear infused with Silver Mana tore through the air with an ear-splitting shriek, hurtling toward that Demon Descendant officer.
Seeing a Bone Spear screaming toward him at an incredible speed, the officer’s pupils contracted. Amid his soldiers’ cries of shock, he hastily raised his shield to block.
"Ssshh!"
That masterful throw of the Calamity Flying Spear punched straight through the officer’s shield and then into his throat, the spear tip bursting out from the back of his neck.
The Demon Descendant officer’s throat let out a rattling "kak-kak" sound as he toppled sideways, still frozen in his shield-raising stance.
"Kill!"
Seeing their captain instantly slay the enemy officer with a single strike, the Warriors of the Calamity Special Operations Team roared, their morale surging.
"Hurry, the enemy is strong—notify Lord Viscount at once."
The Demon Army soldiers, having lost their commanding officer in the very first clash, scrambled in panic and retreated like a breaking wave, while empty signal arrows shot skyward over the jungle one after another.
Before long, Demon Army soldiers who’d rushed over upon receiving the news appeared to the east, west, and north of the jungle, a black mass cramming every gap between the trees.
Their numbers continued to swell wherever Fang Zhou’s eyes could see.
A hard-to-describe sense of oppression weighed down on every heart.
At this moment, the mental toughness the Calamity Special Operations Team’s Warriors had developed from training under this constant hair-trigger tension finally showed its worth.
Though the enemy’s numbers far exceeded their own, not one of the six hundred-plus Warriors in the Calamity Special Operations Team showed panic or fear on their face.
Having walked straight out of blood and fire, they knew better than anyone that the more you fear on the battlefield, the more Death comes looking for you.
All the more so when their superior, Fang Zhou, no matter the situation, always remained calm—his composure gave them courage.
Just then, a Sky Splitting Demon Descendant clad in a black full-body cuirass stepped out from the Demon Army’s formation.
He first glanced at the officer on the ground, still skewered together with his shield, then strode alone to a spot roughly a hundred meters from the Calamity Special Operations Team, raised his head toward the slope, and shouted, "I am Baron Sindred of the Calamity Sun Demon Country. Will the Commander of your unit answer me?"
Huh? What trick is this guy playing?
Fang Zhou was taken aback.
Given the current situation, although his Calamity Special Operations Team occupied favorable terrain, any clear-eyed person could see the Demon Army held an absolute advantage in numbers.
No matter what, soldiers block soldiers, water dams water—it was a good chance to buy time for the Blood Spirit Giant Bats scouting high above.
After a brief silence, Fang Zhou stepped out from behind several Shield Warriors, showed himself, and said, "I am Colonel Fang Zhou, Commander of the Calamity Special Operations Team of the Dawn Legion.
What business do you have?"
"You are this unit’s Commander? And so young!"
Baron Sindred wore an expression of utter disbelief.
"I originally thought the Commander who dared lead fewer than a thousand men to raid our supply lines was a true hero.
Now it seems you’re nothing more than some pampered second-generation brat relying on elite troops inherited from your ancestors."
Once he’d finished questioning Fang Zhou’s identity, his tone abruptly shifted, and he suddenly spat out this insult.
Fang Zhou gave a faint smile.
Before he could reply, the Warriors of the Calamity Special Operations Team, seeing their superior insulted, flew into a rage. Hot-tempered by nature, they were furious enough to see stars, and began hurling curses at Baron Sindred.
If not for the iron weight of military orders, some Archers would have already loosed their arrows.
"Bullshit, your mother’s bullshit!
Our captain is no ’second-generation brat’—he earned every rank with Military Merit!"
Unable to tolerate anyone showing the slightest disrespect toward Fang Zhou, Zhuo Yue exploded, bellowing at Baron Sindred at the top of his lungs.
Baron Sindred remained utterly composed. Hearing Zhuo Yue’s roar, his eyes instead lit up.
He said, "So I misjudged you.
Colonel Fang Zhou, so young and already in a High-level position—humans truly have remarkable talent!"
