Chapter 420: Chapter 209: Chen Xuan’s Plan

"Actually, the deep darkness isn’t as great as it sounds."

Feng Wuji smiled and said, "It’s best to avoid it if you can. The place is fraught with danger and death at every turn, hiding countless monsters. You’ve already witnessed the dark incursion that happens once every ten years. Well, in the deep darkness, that kind of incursion is commonplace—it happens almost daily."

"Are there opportunities to be found?"

Chu Shanhe asked.

"Where there’s danger, there are naturally opportunities."

Feng Wuji smiled faintly and said, "But what good are they? The real question is whether you’ll live long enough to seize them. In fact, we still have at least sixty to seventy percent of the shallow darkness left to explore. Why even think about going deeper?"

"That’s true."

Chu Shanhe nodded.

"Sixty to seventy percent of the shallow darkness is unexplored?"

Chen Xuan asked.

"That’s right."

Feng Wuji sighed softly and said, "You remember the black fog we saw on the mountain ranges on our way here? There’s no telling how much more of that fog exists in this shallow darkness. More importantly, this region is plagued by dark whirlwinds that erupt from time to time. Those whirlwinds can tear the heavens and shatter the earth, pulverizing everything in their path. They occur with such extreme frequency that we don’t dare explore on a large scale."

He paused for a moment before continuing:

"On top of that, there are many villages in the wilderness, each under the protection of a god. Every time a dark whirlwind erupts, these gods are the ones who resist the assault for them. But these gods are no benevolent figures. So, Young Hero Chen, if you ever happen upon a village in the wild, it’s best not to approach it lightly. The villages that can survive in the darkness are all incredibly formidable, one more so than the next. Even I have to give them face."

"Villages?"

Chen Xuan asked, confused, "And these gods you speak of... are they true gods?"

"No, they’re all Evil Gods."

Feng Wuji’s tone grew grave. "Just like the Three-Phase Evil God. Think about the Three-Phase Evil God, and you’ll realize just how bizarre those villages are. In short, if you see one, it’s best not to get close."

"That makes sense."

Chu Shanhe nodded and added a warning, "Chen Xuan, in this shallow darkness, villages are a hundred times more dangerous than cities. They’re basically forbidden grounds. Unless you have no other choice, it’s best not to enter."

"Alright, I understand."

Chen Xuan nodded.

’Villages in the wild...’

’But thinking about it, that makes sense. If they didn’t have an ace up their sleeve, how would they dare to survive in the darkness?’

’It’s just like the old saying from the jianghu: women, children, and the elderly are the three types of people you must never provoke.’

’You think you can mess with someone just because they look like a child?’

’You’ll be dead before you even know what hit you!’

As they spoke, they arrived at the storehouse.

Feng Wuji opened the main door and led Chen Xuan and the others inside.

The entire storehouse was a dazzling sight, filled to the brim with all sorts of items.

"Young Hero Chen, these are the treasured garments."

A smile on his face, Feng Wuji walked over to a pile of clothes. Some were like flowing clouds over pristine snow, others like light congealing upon jade-green water. They shimmered with a radiant glow and looked truly extraordinary. He said with a grin:

"These clothes are all woven from special materials. After they were made, we commissioned a brilliant Array Master to inscribe Arrays inside. They can repel dust, resist fire, and protect from the cold. They also automatically resize to fit your body without suffering any damage in the process. Go on, take a look. See if any of them catch your eye."

Chen Xuan’s gaze swept over them.

There were certainly plenty of colors.

Red, blue, white, green...

But the one color he wanted, black, was nowhere to be seen.

’This is a tough choice...’

"How about this purple one?"

Feng Wuji walked to a cabinet and took out a brilliant purple garment, making Chen Xuan’s eyes light up. He grinned and said, "Purple symbolizes great fortune and unparalleled nobility. It even has a Spirit-type Array within it. When activated, your body is shrouded in a luminous mist that prevents others from seeing your face. I’ve never even worn it once since the day I got it."

"Oh?"

Chen Xuan examined it carefully.

The purple robe shimmered radiantly, embroidered with dragon patterns. It had a high, rolled cloud-collar that resembled phoenix wings, a multi-layered neckline, and sleeves that were narrow at the top and wide at the bottom. The overall look was crisp, neat, and impossibly stylish.

"Excellent. I like this one a lot!"

Chen Xuan smiled.

"Then go ahead and try it on."

Feng Wuji said with a smile.

Chen Xuan picked up the garment. With a flash of radiant light, it was on his body in the next instant.

Once he put it on, it complemented his tall and sturdy frame, adding to his distinguished air.

"Not bad, not bad at all."

Chu Shanhe also circled Chen Xuan, sizing him up. He laughed and said, "Masculine yet stylish. If you were to travel the jianghu in this outfit, who knows how many young maidens you’d leave lovestruck?"

"Hahaha..."

Chen Xuan also burst into hearty laughter.

"Brother Feng, look, do you think you could spare one for me too?"

Chu Shanhe asked shamelessly.

"Sure. If you want one, Younger Brother Chu, pick one out for yourself."

Feng Wuji said with a laugh.

"Then I won’t be polite!"

Chu Shanhe’s eyes lit up.

He’d had his eye on the white one for a while. Without any ceremony, he made a grabbing motion, and the white long robe instantly appeared on his body. Paired with his newly rejuvenated physique, he too now possessed a rather distinguished aura.

"Young Hero Chen, do you need a weapon?"

Feng Wuji smiled again and said, "For ease of combat, I’d recommend a saber. A saber can slash and cleave, striking as fast as lightning. I have many fine sabers in my collection. Would you like me to show you?"

"No need."

Chen Xuan shook his head and chuckled. "Deal with a bunch of small fry? You think I need a saber for that? You’re giving them way too much credit."

’It would be like beating up grade-schoolers.’

’As long as I wanted to, no one could survive a single palm strike from me.’
