Chapter 269: Yu Hualong Gifts an Elixir, Zhang Su Enters Mixed Element Peak
Pedestrians were already on the streets, and the distant sky was turning a pale white. Dawn was about to break.
“Go. You are, after all, a Celestial Pride of our Guiyuan Sect’s Inner Sect. Even at the Upper Sect, you’re sure to achieve great things. We’ll all be waiting for that day!”
Zhong Wangji waved his hand.
Yu Hualong stood behind the three Elders and nodded at Zhang Su.
“Elders, farewell.”
Zhang Su bowed to the three Elders, his gaze then turning to Yu Hualong.
Then, he resolutely turned and headed towards the Upper Sect.
They watched Zhang Su’s figure grow more and more distant, until he finally disappeared from sight.
Zhong Wangji let out a long sigh.
“The heavy burden of the Sect’s survival now rests on the shoulders of an eighteen-year-old disciple. We have failed the generations of ancestors!”
Everyone fell silent.
After all, it was the truth.
The Guiyuan Sect was founded several hundred years ago. It had weathered many storms and seen its share of ups and downs.
But now, it seemed this foundation was about to be lost.
As Elders, they were powerless, able only to pin their hopes on an eighteen-year-old disciple.
“Let’s go. Before Zhang Su becomes a Direct Disciple, we have to hold on for a little longer…”
Zhong Wangji turned and returned to the inn.
The others followed him inside one by one.
As for whether Zhang Su could become a Direct Disciple…
No one knew.
But at least, they still had a sliver of hope in their hearts.
…
The disciple selection had ended, so there weren’t as many people in front of the Haojin Upper Sect Mountain Gate, but it was by no means deserted.
Zhang Su stood before the Mountain Gate and looked up.
The Mountain Gate was massive, dozens of zhang tall, and constructed entirely from enormous blocks of bluish-white stone.
The words “Haojin Upper Sect” were engraved in large characters on the lintel.
Using his Token, Zhang Su passed directly through the Haojin Upper Sect’s Mountain Gate.
He had learned a few things about the Haojin Upper Sect during this time.
The Haojin Upper Sect was primarily divided into nine branches, also known as the Nine Peaks of Haojin.
Each Peak held immense power.
The Nine Peaks both cooperated and competed with one another, their relationships intricate and complex.
The Guiyuan Sect’s Ten Great Martial Veins were, in fact, modeled after the Upper Sect’s Nine Peaks.
However, the gap between the Guiyuan Sect’s Martial Veins and the Upper Sect’s Nine Peaks was simply enormous.
After asking for directions along the way, Zhang Su arrived smoothly at Mixed Element Peak.
This Mixed Element Peak was huge, even larger than the entire Guiyuan Sect.
Zhang Su stood at the foot of the mountain and looked up to see a majestic peak rising from the earth, piercing straight into the clouds.
The peak was wreathed in clouds and mist, and he could vaguely make out buildings hidden within, appearing and disappearing from view.
At the foot of the mountain was a wide, open plaza, where people were already standing.
Just as Zhang Su arrived, a sharp-looking servant immediately walked over.
The servant was in his twenties and looked rather ordinary, but his eyes were sharp—one glance and you could tell he was a clever fellow.
“May I ask, Senior Brother, have you just joined Mixed Element Peak?”
The servant had a smile on his face, his tone very respectful.
Zhang Su nodded and directly presented his Token.
“Yesterday, a servant informed me to come to Mixed Element Peak today.”
When the servant saw the Token in Zhang Su’s hand, he couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed.
‘He’s just a Named Disciple?’
His smile froze for a moment, and his attitude was clearly not as enthusiastic as before.
Although Named Disciples were nominally higher in status than servants, the servants wouldn’t bother trying to curry favor with them.
Their targets were the Official Disciples with potential!
‘Named Disciples can barely fend for themselves, how could they possibly have the ability to help others?’
Thus, the smile immediately vanished from the servant’s face. He said flatly, “New entry-level disciples, report to the main hall.”
The servant pointed a finger toward the main hall and then ignored Zhang Su completely.
He turned and walked briskly in another direction.
A young man in the uniform of an Official Disciple was approaching from that direction, and the servant’s face instantly broke into a wide smile as he hurried to greet him.
Zhang Su paid it no mind and made his way into the main hall of Mixed Element Peak.
The hall was spacious, with a floor of green bricks and pillars painted with red lacquer.
Inside the hall were several long tables, and behind them sat a few Stewards wearing grey robes.
As Zhang Su walked in, a Steward in his forties glanced up at him.
“Token.”
The Steward said flatly.
Zhang Su handed over the Token.
The Steward took the Token, glanced at it, then flipped through a register on the table and found the corresponding entry.
He picked up a brush, made a few notes in the register, and then looked up.
“Zhang Su, here is your lodging assignment, and three sets of clothing.”
The Steward took a cloth bundle from under the table and handed it to Zhang Su.
The bundle wasn’t large. Inside were three sets of neatly folded grey robes.
Zhang Su took the items for a Named Disciple and headed directly to his assigned quarters.
The quarters were located on a flat area halfway up the mountain, a cluster of low-lying courtyards.
The courtyard walls were made of green brick, with moss growing in some spots.
The roof tiles also looked old, their color dark and faded.
Soon, Zhang Su arrived at his new residence.
It was a small courtyard.
There were six rooms in the courtyard, meaning it housed six disciples.
The courtyard wasn’t large, but it was reasonably clean.
The other five rooms were already occupied. Zhang Su moved his things into the last empty room.
“Huh? Our courtyard is finally full. Is this a new Junior Brother?”
Just then, an unfamiliar voice came from outside the door.
Zhang Su pushed the door open and saw a young disciple standing outside.
The disciple looked to be twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old. He was of average build and had a plain face, but his eyes were very bright, revealing a hint of shrewdness.
He was wearing the grey robes of a Named Disciple.
“Junior Brother, you must have just joined Mixed Element Peak, right? In that case, I’m your Senior Brother. My name is Luo Feng.”
The young disciple said with a cheerful laugh, his tone very enthusiastic.
