Chapter 176: Chapter 176: I’ll Give You Fifteen Years of Life
"Let’s go!" Lin Annian grabbed his sister, who was on the verge of exploding. Before leaving, he threatened Wang Chenning one last time: "I hope someone’s there to collect your corpse when you die!"
Wang Chenning took a step forward. "Keep chirping and you’ll get another slap!"
Lin Annian flinched and fled, dragging Lin Anning with him.
The siblings ran for a short distance before finally slowing down.
The two bodyguards Lin Annian had brought struggled to their feet and followed.
"It’s fine now. Let’s get back to having fun!" Wang Chenning said, taking Zhao Xiao’an’s hand as they left.
A crowd of onlookers had already gathered. He didn’t want to be recognized, and he certainly didn’t want photos of himself and Zhao Xiao’an posted online.
"Sigh!" Zhao Xiao’an took a pair of glasses from her bag, put them on, and linked her arm with Wang Chenning’s, quickening her pace.
She knew that a mortal enmity between Wang Chenning and the Lin family was now set in stone.
It was very likely their conflict would only end when one of them was dead.
Wang Chenning asked Zhao Xiao’an, "Why do they just let me bully them? Aren’t the young masters of wealthy families supposed to be arrogant and overbearing?"
"Because you’re a total hooligan who doesn’t play by the rules!" Zhao Xiao’an rolled her eyes. "When do feuds between powerful families ever get this crude? What young master gets into a fight and throws punches himself? Besides, you’re such a good fighter that no one is a match for you."
Wang Chenning’s actions had truly upended Zhao Xiao’an’s understanding of the world.
’The guy is a complete maniac. He starts throwing punches at the slightest disagreement. The scenes are so intense and explosive, it’s almost too much for my heart to handle.’
’Who in their circle does things this way?’
The richer people were, the more they cherished their lives. Almost none of them would get into a physical fight themselves during a conflict.
The fierce are afraid of the reckless, and the reckless are afraid of the fearless.
Wang Chenning acted like he had a death wish, flying off the handle and hitting people at the slightest provocation. How could any of those pampered, idle rich kids—used to a life of luxury—possibly beat him in a fight? In the end, they were all beaten black and blue by him.
However, Zhao Xiao’an felt no sense of triumph. Her heart was filled with worry.
Whether it was Li Mingchao and the Li family behind him, or the Lin siblings and their family, none of them would swallow their pride and accept being bullied. They would definitely make a move against Wang Chenning.
If the Li family and the Lin family truly decided to deal with Wang Chenning, it wouldn’t be a simple scuffle. They would be out for his life.
The Li family and the Lin family hadn’t made any moves recently, and that was what worried Zhao Xiao’an the most.
She firmly believed that something was amiss when things were this quiet.
"Wang Chenning, Lin Annian and Lin Anning won’t give up. The Lin family won’t let you off the hook either!" Zhao Xiao’an reminded him in a soft voice. "You need to be careful!"
"I’ll be careful!" Wang Chenning smiled. "If things get dicey, I’ll just run back to Chang’an. If that doesn’t work, I’ll go hide in the Zhongnan Mountains. They can’t possibly seal off the entire mountain range, can they?"
Zhao Xiao’an rolled her eyes again, annoyed that Wang Chenning was still speaking to her in such a joking tone.
After what had happened, Zhao Xiao’an had no interest in having fun anymore. After wandering around a bit more, she dragged Wang Chenning to see her grandfather.
On the way, Zhao Xiao’an reminded Wang Chenning not to show up empty-handed to see her grandfather. He should bring some kind of gift. Even if the old man didn’t accept it, it was proper etiquette and would prevent criticism.
"I’m not going to be so conventional!" Wang Chenning replied with a smile. "I’ll give your grandpa a prescription—a formula that can guarantee his health and longevity!"
"Fine!" Zhao Xiao’an could only drop the subject.
On the way to the old residence, Zhao Xiao’an called Luo Yuqing and told her what had just happened.
"That bastard, he’s a total maniac! Fighting can solve problems, but not all problems can be solved by fighting." Although Luo Yuqing was a thrill-seeker, her feelings had changed after her relationship with Wang Chenning deepened.
Hearing Zhao Xiao’an say that Wang Chenning had taught Lin Annian another lesson, and had even slapped him four times in public, she felt a sense of exasperated disappointment.
"I’ll come over to see the old man in a bit too. We can discuss this matter in detail and see if he has anything to say about it."
Zhao Xiao’an had thought Luo Yuqing would be clapping her hands in glee. If that had been the case, she could have forced Luo Yuqing to protect Wang Chenning.
If she could tie Luo Yuqing to Wang Chenning’s war chariot, the Lin family would be more hesitant. After all, Luo Yuqing had a notorious reputation, and angering her would lead to messy consequences.
She hadn’t expected Luo Yuqing to be like a completely different person.
"Alright," Zhao Xiao’an had no choice but to agree. "Then you should come over too."
Following Zhao Xiao’an’s directions, Wang Chenning drove her BMW X5 into a district of siheyuan in the city center, an area that felt both ancient and mysterious.
Even without Zhao Xiao’an’s explanation, Wang Chenning knew that the people living here were no ordinary folk. To say they were merely rich or noble wouldn’t even begin to describe their status.
After passing through several security checkpoints, the car finally stopped outside a clean, well-kept courtyard that occupied a sizable area.
"Xiao’an is here!" Hearing the car’s engine, a young man of about thirty came out of the courtyard with a smile. "You must be Dr. Wang, I presume?"
"Hello!" Wang Chenning proactively extended his hand. "I’m Wang Chenning. I’m a teacher at the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a doctor at the First Affiliated Hospital and Yandu Hospital."
"This is my grandfather’s secretary, Huang Yajun!" Zhao Xiao’an briefly introduced the young man, then added proudly, "Wang Chenning is the youngest attending physician and doctoral advisor at all the affiliated hospitals of the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and at Yandu Hospital, as well as the youngest professor at the university."
"A true young prodigy!" Huang Yajun shook Wang Chenning’s hand with a look of admiration, then gestured for him to enter. "The old master is sunbathing in the courtyard. Please, follow me."
After thanking him, Wang Chenning followed Zhao Xiao’an into the courtyard.
Passing through a circular moon gate, Wang Chenning saw an old man with white hair and a face full of age spots lying on a rocking chair by the wall, basking in the sun.
The afternoon sun was warm, and with no wind in the courtyard, sunbathing like this was a true pleasure.
"Grandpa, we’re here!" Zhao Xiao’an hurried forward and crouched down in front of Zhao Jiefang. "I brought Wang Chenning with me!"
Wang Chenning stepped forward politely and greeted him, "Hello, Grandpa Zhao!"
Zhao Jiefang, who had had his eyes closed, slowly opened them to look at Wang Chenning.
Although Zhao Jiefang was decrepit with age and his eyes looked cloudy, Wang Chenning felt an unprecedented pressure when his gaze fell upon him.
This pressure was even greater than what he had felt when facing Ling Weiguo.
It was the very definition of an imposing aura that commanded respect without anger.
"Young man, this is your first time visiting an old fellow like me, and you actually came empty-handed!" Zhao Jiefang said, watching Wang Chenning with his eyes barely open, his voice unhurried. "Isn’t that a bit impolite?"
"How could a mundane gift possibly compare to the greatest gift a doctor can offer?" Wang Chenning sat down confidently in front of Zhao Jiefang. "How about I give you fifteen more years of life, Grandpa Zhao? I wonder if that gift would be to your satisfaction?"
