Chapter 229: Chapter 229: Who Have I Ever Feared When Being a Scoundrel?

Zheng Qiuhang reacted quickly. "Brother Ning," she asked immediately, "have you already invited Miss Yang to join us?"

"Not yet." Wang Chenning shook his head, then turned to Yang Xiaomi. "If I decide to enter the film industry, would you want to join?"

Yang Xiaomi wasn’t quite as quick on the uptake. She didn’t know much about Wang Chenning’s exploits, so for a moment, she was at a loss for words.

"Eldest Young Master Wang, I... my current contract hasn’t expired yet!" she replied instinctively. The words were out before she realized they might not be appropriate, but she didn’t know what else to say.

Yang Xiaomi was quite beautiful, with a great figure. Combined with her years of acting experience, her current expression of charming vulnerability wouldn’t annoy anyone. On the contrary, it made her seem all the more alluring.

Wang Chenning also found Yang Xiaomi attractive, and her acting skills were decent. He didn’t hold her slow reaction against her. With a smile, he gestured for the two women to follow him into the private room.

Zheng Qiuhang had just finished arranging the tea and snacks when Li Mingchao arrived with President He, the middle-aged man from before, along with Sister Lan and the young man.

As soon as he led the three into the private room, Li Mingchao barked, "On your knees! You can get up when Teacher Wang says so!"

President He, Sister Lan, and the young man had been on edge the entire way over. Hearing Li Mingchao’s command, they froze in terror.

President He was the first to react. With a THUD, he dropped to his knees and slapped himself across the face.

"I’m sorry, Eldest Young Master Wang. We deserve to die for offending you just now!"

Sister Lan reacted just as quickly, kneeling after President He. "Eldest Young Master Wang, we were blind and failed to recognize your importance. We are so sorry for offending you. Please, forgive us!"

Seeing President He and Sister Lan on their knees, the young man finally, reluctantly, knelt as well.

"Eldest Young Master Wang, I’m sorry..." He raised his hand, but ultimately couldn’t bring himself to strike his own face.

Seeing this, Li Mingchao strode forward and sent the young man sprawling with a single slap.

"Weren’t you acting all high and mighty just now? Said you were going to teach our Teacher Wang a lesson." Li Mingchao kicked the young man. "Who gave you the balls to tell him to get lost? To think you could take him on?"

The kick sent the young man tumbling to the floor with a THUD. He scrambled back up, his face a tear-streaked mess as he pleaded with Wang Chenning. He begged for forgiveness, explaining that he hadn’t known who Wang Chenning was and had acted rashly. As he spoke, he raised a hand and slapped himself twice.

Li Mingchao glanced at Wang Chenning before continuing, "There’s a price to pay for your mistakes. So tell us, how do you plan to resolve this?"

Sitting to the side, Yang Xiaomi was incredibly nervous as she watched the scene unfold.

This was far beyond anything she could have imagined, and a deep sense of dread toward Wang Chenning took root in her heart.

Had she known things would turn out like this, she might not have dared to ask him for help.

Sweat beaded on President He’s forehead. He recalled the instructions Eldest Young Master Zhang Guoping had given him before he came over with Li Mingchao. "Eldest Young Master Wang," he said quickly, "we are truly sorry. We are willing to offer compensation for offending you tonight."

"Stop dawdling!" Li Mingchao said impatiently. "Just tell Zhang Guoping to hand over half of his shares in Blue Light Film and Television as compensation. That’ll settle it!"

Li Mingchao’s words horrified President He, Sister Lan, and the young man.

Zhang Guoping held ten percent of the shares in Blue Light Film and Television. At the current market value, his stake was worth one billion.

Li Mingchao was making an exorbitant demand, asking for five hundred million in compensation—this was blatant extortion.

Even Wang Chenning glanced at Li Mingchao in surprise, but he said nothing, simply continuing to sip his tea leisurely.

Zheng Qiuhang seemed to sense something was afoot. She too remained impassive, but she carefully observed everyone’s reactions.

"I can’t make that decision!" President He was trembling from head to toe, sweat pouring down his forehead. He wiped his brow with his sleeve and whispered, "How about... I ask for instructions from Eldest Young Master Zhang?"

"Then hurry up and call him!" Li Mingchao was growing impatient.

President He fumbled for his phone, called Zhang Guoping, and relayed Li Mingchao’s demand.

Zhang Guoping was silent for a moment on the other end, then told President He to hand the phone to Li Mingchao.

"Eldest Young Master Zhang!" Li Mingchao chuckled after taking the phone. "How could you try to make a move on Miss Yang? Teacher Wang was already plenty unhappy about that business with Miss Zhao... Did you not know that Miss Yang is a good friend of Teacher Wang? Demanding her company tonight—isn’t that a slap in Teacher Wang’s face? And another thing, these men of yours are pretty damn arrogant. They were even talking about killing Teacher Wang!"

After listening to the reply, Li Mingchao sneered threateningly, "Do you want Teacher Wang to show up at your door and demand an apology personally?"

After another brief exchange, Li Mingchao tossed the phone back to President He.

After listening to Zhang Guoping’s instructions, President He broke out in a fresh sweat. He stammered a few "yeses" before finally hanging up.

Only after President He hung up did Wang Chenning speak. "Eldest Young Master Li, everyone present should get a share of the spoils. How about this: if Eldest Young Master Zhang agrees to the compensation, let’s split it. I’ll take two-thirds, and you take one-third. What do you say?"

"Deal!" Li Mingchao didn’t hesitate, agreeing readily. "Thank you for your generosity, Teacher Wang!"

Then he turned to President He. "And you can forget about running that pathetic company of yours. Otherwise, you’ll never learn your lesson."

President He’s legs went weak with fright.

Li Mingchao had no desire to listen to President He’s pleas. "I’ll settle everything with Zhang Guoping personally," he barked impatiently. "Now, get out!"

Sister Lan grabbed President He, who looked like he wanted to say more, then kicked the dumbstruck young man and dragged them both out of the room.

"Teacher Wang, I’ll take care of this for you!" After the trio left, Li Mingchao said to Wang Chenning with a broad smile and a respectful cupping of his fists. "That punk Zhang Guoping has plotted against you in secret a few times. He needs to be taught a serious lesson. I’ll do my best to have this wrapped up before you go abroad!"

After Wang Chenning had left earlier that evening, Li Mingchao and Li Mingyue had listened to their grandfather, Li Baoguo, analyze the situation for what felt like an eternity. Finally, it was as if they’d had an epiphany, and everything became clear.

This explained his rather zealous behavior that evening.

"Not bad at all." Wang Chenning gave Li Mingchao a thumbs-up. "Looks like Cyan Bird Shares could use more shareholders like you."

Li Mingchao knew that Li Garden Hall was also part of Cyan Bird Shares. Stepping back into this place that had once been his, he couldn’t help but feel a bitter taste in his mouth.

When Wang Chenning offered to make him a shareholder in Cyan Bird Shares, he was naturally reminded of that humiliation.

However, after his grandfather’s lecture, he understood that what he stood to gain from Wang Chenning in the future would far outweigh what he had lost.

Thus, he had no complaints and readily accepted the offer.

Li Mingchao was tactful enough not to overstay his welcome at Li Garden Hall and soon took his leave.

After Li Mingchao left, Wang Chenning turned to Zheng Qiuhang with a smile. "I’m sure your head is full of questions right now. You can’t figure out why I made such a big scene tonight, can you?"

"Yes, exactly!" Zheng Qiuhang’s eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Brother Ning, can you please tell me? I won’t be able to sleep tonight if you don’t!"

Yang Xiaomi looked just as curious.

"Alright, I’ll explain, so you’re not left in the dark."
