Chapter 250: Chapter 250: Challenging the Entire South Korean Traditional Medicine Community

By the time Wang Chenning’s calligraphy competition with Li Yanxian was over, the Go match in another part of the venue had also ended.

One of our students defeated the South Korean player by a slim margin of a quarter point.

And just like that, our side had swept South Korea five-nil in the five events.

After the panel of judges announced the final results, Wang Chenning took the microphone and addressed the crowd.

"I know you chose these particular events for the competition just to make us from Huaxia lose face. If we had lost these matches, all of which are part of Huaxia’s traditional culture, it would have been a major embarrassment. But unfortunately for you, you miscalculated. Our exchange group may only be teachers and students, but we are brimming with talent."

"Let me introduce myself. My name is Wang Chenning, and I’m a teacher at the Yandu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Today, I, a teacher, defeated your student. You can say it was an unfair victory."

Wang Chenning’s words sent an immediate uproar through the crowd.

But Wang Chenning was unfazed and continued, "I am a teacher, but I am also a doctor of traditional medicine. I may be young, but I believe the medical skills I’ve mastered already surpass those of any famous doctor in South Korea’s traditional medical field. So today, using this platform, I am issuing a challenge to all the renowned doctors of traditional medicine in South Korea. If your elder masters defeat me, I won’t call it an unfair victory. And I can guarantee that if you win, the world of traditional medicine in Huaxia will acknowledge your superiority."

Wang Chenning’s audacious words ignited the crowd once more.

His words were met with curses and ridicule from most of the South Koreans, and also made many of the Huaxian students cringe in embarrassment.

’This guy is unbelievably arrogant!’

Li Yanxian, who had returned to her seat, watched Wang Chenning with a thoughtful expression.

’She didn’t believe for a second that Wang Chenning was just being arrogant and spouting nonsense. Judging by how highly her aunt, Li Fuzhen, praised him, she had a sense that his medical skills were truly exceptional.’

’Are you here to challenge all of South Korea?’ she wondered, her curiosity piqued.

Zhao Xiao’an immediately posted the news of Wang Chenning’s challenge to the entire South Korean traditional medical community on Weibo.

This video, in turn, caused an explosion online.

As the day’s activities were concluding, Wang Chenning received a call from Li Fuzhen.

"Little brother, I hear you made quite a splash today!" Li Fuzhen asked Wang Chenning in her not-so-fluent Chinese. "I also heard you’re planning to challenge the entire traditional medical community of South Korea. Is that true?"

"Let’s just speak your language on the phone!" Wang Chenning replied playfully, implicitly confirming her question. He then asked Li Fuzhen, "Do you think I can beat them?"

"Absolutely!" Having witnessed Wang Chenning’s incredible medical skills the night before, Li Fuzhen didn’t hesitate. "Your skills are certainly better than those old fossils. I’m just curious, where did you learn to be so brilliant? After all, this is a field based on experience. It’s impossible to achieve such mastery without sufficient clinical practice!"

"I’ve been studying medicine since I was a boy, and I’ve had guidance from several masters. My IQ is higher than average, and I’m also physically stronger than most people. If you’d seen my match with Li Chengchang today, you would’ve noticed that my movements are at least fifty percent faster than his. He’s already very fast, but I’m much faster. All these factors combined make me quite formidable in every way," Wang Chenning said with a chuckle. "And congratulations to you, Sister Li, for having such an outstanding friend!"

Li Fuzhen burst out laughing at his words. "I’ve never seen someone praise themselves so shamelessly. You still look a bit thin to me. What’s all this talk about being strong?"

"Well, any woman who’s experienced my... prowess... has been left completely in awe," Wang Chenning said, half-joking. "Of course, it’s not an experience I give out freely!"

"Oh? Are you trying to provoke your big sister now?" Li Fuzhen giggled. "Is that what your girlfriend says about you?"

"Let’s not talk about things that aren’t for kids!" Wang Chenning didn’t give Li Fuzhen the satisfaction, quickly changing the subject. "Your niece, Li Yanxian, challenged me today, but she lost! I’m wondering if she’ll hold a grudge."

"She won’t," Li Fuzhen told Wang Chenning, explaining that Li Yanxian had already called her about it. "Yanxian said she’s very impressed with you. She thinks that even though you’re incredibly arrogant, you’re also truly outstanding in every way. But she still feels that challenging the entire traditional medical community of South Korea was too brazen and will provoke a furious backlash. If I’m not mistaken, someone will come to deliver a formal challenge to you tonight. I’ve already had my people collect information on the most famous figures in South Korea’s traditional medicine scene. I’ll email it to you in a bit. Take a look if you’re interested."

"Thanks, Sister Li!" Wang Chenning was naturally grateful for Li Fuzhen’s thoughtfulness.

During dinner, Wang Chenning received the email from Li Fuzhen.

After a quick look, he had a basic understanding of the landscape of traditional medicine in South Korea.

The world of traditional medicine in South Korea placed great importance on sects. These various sects were rivals, and "medical duels" between them were common.

Three main sects dominated the traditional medical field in South Korea: the Cyan Yang Sect, led by Pu Zhengyang; the Han Medical Sect, represented by Jin Yaguang; and the Southern Medical Sect, headed by Li Si Zhuang.

These three factions had different areas of focus, and the traditional medical principles they adhered to were not entirely the same.

Overall, the principles of Pu Zhengyang’s Cyan Yang Sect were similar to those Wang Chenning practiced, and they also placed a high value on acupuncture.

The other two factions were slightly less influential overall.

Li Fuzhen also told Wang Chenning that she would spread some stories of his exploits back in his home country, so more people in South Korea would know just how formidable his medical skills were.

That way, they wouldn’t be able to ignore him.

"Whether you win or lose these medical duels, you will be remembered in South Korea," Li Fuzhen had said. She wasn’t thinking in terms of nationalism. For someone like her, tangible benefits were what mattered most. She hoped Wang Chenning would build his reputation, as it would lend a deeper significance to their future collaborations.

On the way back to the hotel, Yang Xiaofu was bubbling with excitement. Ignoring the sideways glances from people nearby, she chattered away, peppering Wang Chenning with questions, wanting to know how he was so amazing at all these things.

"Compared to my medical skills, this is all just child’s play," Wang Chenning replied, then asked Yang Xiaofu, "Don’t you agree?"

"That’s true!" Yang Xiaofu agreed after a moment of thought. She then asked, "You publicly challenged the entire traditional medical community of South Korea. Do you think they’ll accept?"

Wang Chenning just smiled. "I imagine we’ll receive their formal challenge by tonight."

And Wang Chenning was right. Around seven o’clock that evening, Pu Zhengyang, the old master of the Cyan Yang Sect, sent his own grandson, Pu Zhiyun, to deliver the challenge.
