Chapter 346: Persuading Grandfather

Zhao Xiao'an was truly a passionate woman.

Normally, she appeared exceedingly reserved, almost like a noble princess.

But in front of Wang Chenning, she would let down her guard and reveal her truest self.

She was more than willing to learn the new tricks Wang Chenning taught her, and she did so with great concentration.

In recognition of Zhao Xiao'an's excellent performance, Wang Chenning gave her the most perfect reward.

Completely satisfied, Zhao Xiao'an nestled in Wang Chenning's arms and drifted peacefully to sleep.

Wang Chenning had originally intended to go back to his own room, but in the end, he couldn't bring himself to break free from Zhao Xiao'an's gentle embrace. He held her and slept through the night.

The next day, they both woke up very early.

Sleeping in Wang Chenning's arms felt so wonderful that when Zhao Xiao'an woke up the next morning, she was in high spirits and decided to take the lead.

However, Wang Chenning, worried it would be too much for her, didn't go overboard.

Zhao Xiao'an didn't ask Wang Chenning to drive her, either. She called for her own ride and told him to go take care of his own business.

He also had to make some preparations for the master-disciple ceremony in the afternoon.

Wang Chenning arrived at the school very early. He first gathered all his disciples and assigned a task to each of them.

Pu Zhengyang and Tian Zhongxin were bringing their grandsons to become his disciples, so Wang Chenning had to show them some proper respect. He dispatched Chang Qingfeng and Lv Qinglan to greet them at the airport.

Meanwhile, Wu Jingyi, Zhang Manxin, Lin Qingyan, and the others were tasked with preparing for the master-disciple ceremony on his behalf.

Wang Chenning still had two classes in the morning.

Around seven-thirty, he had arranged everything and was ready to head to class himself.

After his two classes ended around nine-forty, Wang Chenning drove his car, taking Zheng Qiuhang with him to the airport to pick up his grandfather, Wang Chongjiu.

Zheng Qiuhang was naturally over the moon that Wang Chenning hadn't brought anyone else, choosing only her to accompany him to pick up Wang Chongjiu.

After getting the call from Wang Chenning that morning, she had taken great care in dressing up.

Zheng Qiuhang was a smart woman. She didn't dress extravagantly. Instead, she had meticulously chosen an outfit that looked completely natural from every angle, yet was also beautiful, accentuated her figure, and gave her a friendly and poised demeanor.

Zheng Qiuhang looked beautiful and elegant, and Wang Chenning didn't hold back his compliments.

When Wang Chenning complimented her to her face, Zheng Qiuhang was absolutely delighted.

Around eleven o'clock, Wang Chongjiu emerged from the passenger arrivals gate with two assistants, and Wang Chenning immediately went up to greet him.

Zheng Qiuhang followed Wang Chenning's lead, calling out, "Grandpa." Her tone was a little shy, yet also very natural and poised.

Before Wang Chongjiu's arrival, Wang Chenning had already told him over the phone about the people in his circle.

Wang Chongjiu knew that Zheng Qiuhang helped Wang Chenning manage his assets. He even knew how she had been brought into the fold, so he wasn't surprised to see the beautiful young woman.

Wang Chongjiu was seventy-five years old, but because he had aged so well, he looked to be in his forties. Standing next to Wang Chenning, no one would have thought they were grandfather and grandson; if someone had claimed they were father and son, almost no one would have doubted it.

After paying her respects, Zheng Qiuhang also marveled at how young Wang Chongjiu looked, saying she would have definitely gotten his identity wrong if Wang Chenning hadn't made the introduction.

Wang Chongjiu knew who Zheng Qiuhang was, but he hadn't expected Wang Chenning to bring her to greet him.

'I thought for sure he would bring Yang Xiaofei.'

The fact that Wang Chenning had brought Zheng Qiuhang instead of Yang Xiaofei filled Wang Chongjiu with doubt.

However, with Zheng Qiuhang right there, it wasn't the right time for him to ask any questions.

Wang Chenning brought Wang Chongjiu back to Li Garden Hall, where Zheng Qiuhang had already arranged for lunch to be served.

She was tactful enough not to join Wang Chongjiu and Wang Chenning for the meal. After having everything sent up, she excused herself, saying she had other matters to attend to, and left the grandfather and grandson alone.

"Where's Xiaofei?" Wang Chongjiu asked Wang Chenning directly as soon as Zheng Qiuhang had left. "How are you two getting along? Why didn't you bring her to see your grandfather?"

"She'll be here this afternoon!" Wang Chenning said to Wang Chongjiu with a smile. "Grandpa, I know you came this time to finalize my marriage arrangement with Grandpa Yang. But I don't want to be a married man just yet, because there are still so many things I want to accomplish. I'm sure you can see that if the engagement is finalized, there are many people I might lose my hold over. That means losing a lot of opportunities and resources. Besides, I don't even know if she's the right person for me! And most importantly, I just don't want to get married this early."

Wang Chongjiu was very surprised.

He knew Wang Chenning was somewhat resistant to the arranged marriage, but he also knew how outstanding Yang Xiaofei was. He had assumed that once Wang Chenning met her, he would surely fall for her.

And by the same token, Yang Xiaofei was bound to fall for him as well.

After speaking with Yang Liansheng a few times and learning that Wang Chenning and Yang Xiaofei were getting along well, Wang Chongjiu had assumed the marriage contract between their families could be smoothly fulfilled and that the wedding could be arranged soon.

He had even thought the wedding could be held within the year.

If all went well, he might even see the birth of Wang Chenning's son next year.

Wang Chenning's great-grandfather—Wang Chongjiu's own father—was still alive. If Wang Chenning had a son or a daughter, the Wang family would have four generations living under one roof.

He never imagined that Wang Chenning wouldn't want to marry so soon, and that he seemed to be less than satisfied with Yang Xiaofei.

After understanding Wang Chenning's intentions, Wang Chongjiu's brow furrowed.

Seeing that Wang Chongjiu hadn't fully grasped his meaning, Wang Chenning continued, "Grandpa, I won't hide it from you. Since coming to Yandu, I've met quite a few outstanding women. They're all fond of me and are willing to be my girlfriends.

Wang Chenning then went on to explain the situations involving Zhao Jiefang, the Lin family, the South Korean Li family, the Luo family, the Bai family, and the Zhang family.

Wang Chongjiu hadn't realized the situation in Yandu was so complex. In the short time since he'd arrived in the Capital City, Wang Chenning had already gotten entangled with so many powerful families.

In the end, he let out a sigh.

But when he learned that Wang Chenning was already able to maneuver between these powerful clans and had even gained the upper hand in his struggles against their scions, he also felt a sense of gratification.

"Alright," he said, finally convinced by Wang Chenning. "We'll do it your way. Establish your career first, then start a family."
