Chapter 476: Chapter 476: What I Say Goes
Luo Yuqing glared at Wang Chenning, furious.
’That bastard actually threatened me in public.’
But she didn’t let her anger show. Instead, after taking a couple of deep breaths, she put on a bewitching smile.
"My dear husband, I know you’re a man destined for great things. I admire you more and more with each passing day!" she cooed, linking her arm with Wang Chenning’s and speaking in a voice only he could hear. "In life, I am your woman; in death, I will be your ghost. I’ll defer to you in everything. Is that good enough?"
"Here’s a simple question for you," Wang Chenning said with a cold smile. "What’s three times twenty-three? I’m sure you know the answer."
Luo Yuqing froze for a moment, then immediately understood what Wang Chenning meant. "My dear husband, I understand. I certainly won’t disappoint you!"
No one could dislike a woman who took a hint so well. Seeing how sensible Luo Yuqing was, Wang Chenning’s anger subsided.
After leaving the restaurant, Wang Chenning asked Wu Jingyi to go make some preparations, while the rest of them would hold an informal meeting.
Zhao Xiao’an left after dinner. The interview from the afternoon still needed to be edited and compiled so it could air on the evening news.
Her colleagues had returned to work right after the interview, but she had stayed for dinner at the insistence of Luo Yuqing, Yang Xiaofei, and the others.
Before she left, Zhao Xiao’an quietly asked Wang Chenning if he had time to come see her that night.
"I probably won’t have time. I still have a lot of things to arrange!" Wang Chenning told Zhao Xiao’an not to be too greedy, and not to run her body into the ground just to indulge her desires.
"I know!" Zhao Xiao’an said with a roll of her eyes before leaving.
She had figured that Wang Chenning wouldn’t have time tonight, which was why she had come to find him at noon to rest with him.
During the informal meeting, which consisted only of his inner circle, Wang Chenning frankly laid out how the lab would operate, conduct research, and commercialize its findings once it was established.
He told everyone present that their research results must be converted into medical resources to benefit the public. He outlined a few ways this would be accomplished:
First, by training more students to have superb medical skills. Therefore, everyone needed to study diligently and learn as much as they could from him. To master the techniques, they had to perfect their fundamentals. Each person’s training plan would be tailored to their individual circumstances.
Second, by developing new pharmaceuticals. However, any drug is merely an auxiliary to the primary treatment method. To be effective, the quality of the raw materials must be strictly controlled, and the quality of the final product must be guaranteed.
Third, their hard work must be rewarded. Everyone was working so hard, and as long as they produced results, they would be handsomely compensated. Things like money and status, while seemingly superficial, are also very real necessities for people living in society. What he could do was ensure that everyone’s compensation would be worthy of their contributions. Simply put, there would be money, there would be prestige, and there would definitely be promotions.
Furthermore, their team was a single unit, and he was its leader. The lab’s management would be relatively independent; the university could not change their research direction or methods. All decisions would be made by Wang Chenning after consulting with his partners. Therefore, Wang Chenning required that while everyone was free to voice their opinions about work and studies, they must still adhere to the relevant discipline. Many things could not be disclosed to outsiders and must be kept secret. As for those with particularly strong personalities who were unwilling to follow his arrangements, they were free to leave the team.
Wang Chenning had stated this last point rather subtly, but everyone understood his meaning perfectly. He was the boss here. His word was law, to be obeyed without opposition. They could raise objections, but it was his prerogative whether to accept them or not.
It was a bit domineering and dictatorial, but Wang Chenning’s performance lately had been so outstanding that he had already earned absolute authority. No one objected.
Wu Jingyi even stated outright that if anyone did something to undermine the team, she would be the first to deal with them personally.
As she spoke, her eyes were fixed on Pu Zhengyang and Tian Zhiheng, who had been keeping a very low profile recently.
Chang Qingfeng, Zhang Manxin, and Lin Qingyan also immediately voiced their support, stating that they trusted Wang Chenning’s authority and would defer to his leadership, communicating any ideas they had directly with him.
Wang Chenning was quite satisfied with these declarations of loyalty.
However, Luo Yuqing, Yang Xiaofei, and a few others were a little displeased with his authoritarian approach.
After the meeting ended and Wang Chenning had sent Wu Jingyi, Chang Qingfeng, and the others to take care of the next steps, the women voiced their objections to him.
"Wang Chenning, are you trying to run a dictatorship?" Luo Yuqing asked irritably. "Aren’t you afraid of making them rebel?"
"Not at all," Wang Chenning replied with a grin. "I have more than enough charisma to win them over. And if I can’t, I’ll just kick them off the team. I’m not short on people. There are countless individuals who want to become my disciples, who want to join my team. Didn’t you know? We’ve received over ten thousand resumes in the last few days alone. Most of them are from people with PhDs or higher, including many senior experts who are already chief physicians or chief pharmacists! Some of the people on the current team are bound to be replaced. So, if I’m not worried, why are you?"
"That’s very much in line with your character. You’re a natural-born macho man!" Yang Xiaofei said, looking at Wang Chenning with a smile. "It wouldn’t be you if you acted any other way!"
"See? You get me!" Wang Chenning returned the smile. "I didn’t know President Yang also studied psychology!"
Yang Xiaofei smiled back.
Luo Yuqing looked annoyed by this exchange. "So, does that mean we all have to listen to everything you say, too?" she asked peevishly. "That we can’t voice any objections at all?"
At Luo Yuqing’s words, the expressions on both Yang Xiaofei’s and Lin Anning’s faces changed instantly.
