Urban Genius Divine Doctor
Chapter 497: Professional Acupuncture and Unprofessional Acupuncture
Around midnight, Wang Chenning sent a message to both Yang Xiaofei and Zhao Xiao’an, asking if they had gotten into a fight.
“We’re fighting under the same covers!” Zhao Xiao’an replied. “Wanna come join us? Let’s see if you can handle a women’s double-team!”
Yang Xiaofei’s reply read: “If I hadn’t called you today, would you be sleeping with your arms around Zhao Xiao’an right now?”
“Good, as long as you didn’t fight. I’m going to bed. Good night!” Wang Chenning sent the same message to both of them.
Of course, Zhao Xiao’an and Yang Xiaofei weren’t about to let him off that easily. They each sent him several more messages, but Wang Chenning didn’t reply.
Both of them were fuming. They quickly bonded over their shared grievance and spent several hours plotting how to get back at him.
To their surprise, the next morning they received a message from Wang Chenning. He said he was going on a trip in a few days to Mount Zhongnan to gather medicinal herbs.
For his upcoming research project, he would be taking most of his students with him, leaving only a few people like Wu Jingyi and Chang Qingfeng behind to handle day-to-day matters and supervise the laboratory renovations.
“If you’re angry with me, I won’t come looking for you for the next couple of days. If you’re not, you can come find me!”
Those last few words from Wang Chenning were the final straw, completely infuriating Zhao Xiao’an and Yang Xiaofei.
That day, Wang Chenning taught his students in the morning and had his specialist clinic hours in the afternoon.
Just as his specialist clinic hours were about to end, the two women teamed up and showed up to corner him.
“All my appointments for the day are done. If you need a consultation, you’ll have to ask me privately to pull some strings!” Wang Chenning teased with a smile as he packed his things. “I’ve been busy all day. I’m exhausted and starving—my stomach feels like it’s touching my spine. How about this: I’ll treat you to dinner, and once you’ve had your fill, you can yell at me or hit me with that women’s doubles combo.”
A male student named Chen Baikun, who had been shadowing Wang Chenning at the clinic that day, saw what was happening and beat a hasty retreat to avoid getting caught in the crossfire.
“So you really don’t take us seriously at all!” Yang Xiaofei glared at Wang Chenning, furious. “You’re just toying with our feelings and you don’t give a damn, is that it?”
“If the paparazzi saw this, or if someone filmed us and posted it online, we’d be all over the trending topics again!” Wang Chenning said, beaming at the two scowling women. “Hold on to that anger for a bit. Let’s go first. We can talk after we get some food in our bellies!”
In the end, the two women, glasses perched on their noses and wearing expressions of cold aloofness, followed Wang Chenning out of the clinic.
Wang Chenning left work half an hour later than the other doctors, so by the time he walked out with Yang Xiaofei and Zhao Xiao’an, the hospital was nearly empty.
Without a word, Wang Chenning led them to the elevator and down to the underground parking garage.
After getting out of the elevator, Wang Chenning turned to them. “So, are Your Ladyships going to deign to ride in my beat-up old car, or are you taking your own?”
Yang Xiaofei and Zhao Xiao’an didn’t answer. As Wang Chenning paused for their reply, they walked right past him and headed for his Ford Edge.
After Wang Chenning unlocked the doors, the two women climbed into the back seat.
Seeing this, the corners of Wang Chenning’s mouth twitched. He wanted to laugh but managed to hold it back.
After starting the car, he still didn’t ask them anything, simply driving to his place just off campus.
“You know, I suddenly don’t feel like eating out. I’ll cook dinner for you myself tonight!” Wang Chenning said after parking in the downstairs garage. He handed them his apartment key. “Go on up and wait. I’m going to go buy some groceries!”
Without waiting for their reaction, he stuffed the key into Zhao Xiao’an’s hand, turned, and walked away.
By the time he returned with the groceries, the two women were already sitting on the sofa in his living room.
He greeted them with a smile and told them what dishes he was planning to make for dinner.
But the two women acted as if he wasn’t there at all, completely engrossed in their phones.
Wang Chenning didn’t seem to mind, simply heading into the kitchen to get to work.
Soon, the fragrant aroma of cooking food began to waft from the kitchen.
About half an hour later, Wang Chenning emerged carrying two dishes and called the women over to the dining table for dinner.
He had prepared four dishes and a soup in total—all simple, home-style fare.
After setting the food and rice on the table, he picked up his chopsticks and began to eat ravenously.
“My specialist clinic days are no joke. They’re exhausting. Still, you could say I saved twelve lives today!” Wang Chenning said as he ate, ignoring the women’s reactions. “I even got called into the ER for an emergency consult. A patient with an acute cerebral hemorrhage, just like Xiaofei’s grandfather, though his condition was a little less severe. The ER docs had pretty much written the old man off, but luckily I was there to chase away the Grim Reaper. Sigh. Death must really hate my guts; I’m always ruining his quota!”
The two women exchanged a glance at him. They didn’t say anything, but they picked up their chopsticks and began to eat.
Wang Chenning’s cooking was excellent, even better than that of many professional chefs; he just rarely cooked himself.
Yang Xiaofei and Zhao Xiao’an were hungry too, having barely eaten anything all day.
When they were in a bad mood, they completely lost their appetites.
But Wang Chenning’s cooking was just too delicious. They couldn’t resist, and after the first few bites, they continued eating without much of a pause.
“I should give you two some acupuncture later,” he offered. “You both look exhausted. You must not have slept well last night!” After saying this, Wang Chenning gave an embarrassed smile. “Professional acupuncture, I mean. Don’t get the wrong idea!”
But to his surprise, Yang Xiaofei retorted, “Tonight, we want your unprofessional acupuncture!”
