Urban's Fury: The War Dragon God

Chapter 2104 - 2012: Rather Kill the Innocent Than Let the Guilty Slip

  • Next Chapter

Hahaha.

Li Feng heard Zheng Tu's questioning, yet burst out laughing three times, which undoubtedly made Zheng Tu's face grow darker.

"Is it that funny?"

Li Feng raised his eyes to look at him. "Isn't it?"

"Anyone with half a brain would know that right now the First Line Pass must be packed with experts. Not counting those who put on a show of force at the camp earlier, there must be plenty more hiding in the shadows who haven't shown themselves, right?"

"After all, the intel that the Demon Clan would break the pass within three days was sent by me to you. Maybe you doubted the intel I sent back, but better safe than sorry."

"So whether you believe it or not, you'd definitely mobilize the experts from Ancestor Dragon City to rush over in support. The First Line Pass cannot be lost, and Ancestor Dragon City isn't ready for full-scale war yet. Besides, mobilizing experts is a lot easier than mobilizing a full Military army."

"If it were me, I'd definitely go with the flow and set up a pocket formation at the First Line Pass. If the Demon Clan really charges in regardless of cost, then we can bury them here in one stroke. Even if we can't counterattack the Demon Clan, at least we can stabilize the situation at the First Line Pass."

"Knowing full well you've laid a trap here, yet I still dare to come. Guess why?"

Li Feng asked Zheng Tu back with a faint smile.

There was no doubt this speech made Zheng Tu's brows knit together. Then he let out a cold laugh and said, "It's exactly your little schemes that I want to ask about. Instead you're the one with the sharp tongue, turning the question back on me."

"In fact, whether you say it or not doesn't matter. Since you've come, then just stay here. When it comes to traitors, better to kill by mistake than let one slip by."

Zheng Tu spoke coldly and, from start to finish, didn't put Li Feng's life or death in his heart. In the end, he's just a lowborn from the Ninth Ring. Though some fortuitous encounters let him gain considerable strength, an uncontrollable variable like that is best dealt with by killing him outright.

"Better to kill by mistake than let one slip."

Li Feng directly stretched out his hands and clapped twice, loudly. "What a fine slogan." He turned his head to look at Ouyang Tianshu.

"Is Guardian Ouyang thinking the same?"

Li Feng had long known that Ancestor Dragon City didn't trust him. The reason was simple: he wasn't from a noble clan. To the powerful families of Ancestor Dragon City, Li Feng had never been able to integrate into the Sixth Ring before, was rejected and suppressed at every turn, and now naturally it was still the same.

Just like back at Nine Layers Mountain, although they were both Commanders, Bai Yi could command a hundred responses with a single call, while the people Li Feng could gather weren't even a tenth of the other's.

Now that the Demon Clan and Ancestor Dragon City have gone to war, given what he did before—regardless of the reasons—who would care? No one would stand up for him. As Zheng Tu said: better to kill than risk being wrong.

He's not some key figure anyway; killing him is just killing him.

As for investigating the truth, to them that's practically a waste of time.

Ouyang Tianshu looked at Li Feng standing under the Yin Yang Grinding Plate, feeling somewhat conflicted. On the one hand, his impression of Li Feng wasn't good, but he didn't really agree with Zheng Tu's way of doing things either.

This Li Feng might be unruly, might be rebellious, but he was undeniably a heaven-sent prodigy, and Sikong Yu and his daughter being able to return safely from the Vermilion Bird Sacred Land—he had merit in that as well.

Talented people being a bit unruly is only natural and ought to be tolerated. Yet what Li Feng said to him before the First Line Pass, laying bare his heart, had also made Ouyang Tianshu feel that Li Feng was an unstable factor.

If this were a time of peace, he could spend some time and effort to train him. But now, at a time like this, the more someone like him—strong in Power, bold to the point of recklessness, and full of talent—runs wild, the more unpredictable the consequences.

A Commander-level talent appears maybe once in a hundred years. Almost every Commander has accomplished unparalleled feats; they're the very foundation upon which Ancestor Dragon City and the Human Clan stand.

By the same token, if that talent is used in the wrong place, if his mind is bent toward crooked schemes, the consequences would be equally immeasurable.

The scales in Ouyang Tianshu's heart had already tipped somewhat. It wasn't that he couldn't tolerate capable people, but in the current situation, stability outweighed everything.

An uncontrollable factor might be better removed.

"Li Feng, why exactly have you come?" Though Ouyang Tianshu's mind had tilted, he didn't immediately make a final judgment. He still had one doubt, which was why Li Feng chose to come at this particular time.

Previously, what Li Feng said below the First Line Pass had already laid bare his stance. The other party refused to obey his arrangements and return to Ancestor Dragon. Since he'd rejected that, he wouldn't easily go back on his word. This wasn't child's play.

"If I tell you, will you believe me?"

"Since you won't believe it, what's the point in saying anything?" Even under the Yin Yang Grinding Plate, Li Feng remained utterly calm, smiling faintly as he looked at Ouyang Tianshu. The way the other questioned him already contained the answer.

Zhuge Xuanji sighed. He could see through the subtext between the few people opposite. The people of Ancestor Dragon City hadn't taken Li Feng seriously at all, all because of his origins. Zheng Tu's line—better to kill than let one slip—was a naked declaration: no matter why you came today, you're dead.

It seemed things were even more difficult than he'd imagined.

But Zhuge Xuanji didn't give up. Instead, he stepped forward and said, "He originally didn't want to come. I forced him to come with me."

"I'll get straight to the point. The fierce assault by the Demon Clan outside the First Line Pass is nothing but a smoke screen. The Qingqiu Fox Clan indeed prepared a batch of Demon King Level experts, but not for targeting the First Line Pass. The true scheme of the Qingqiu Fox Clan is to feint in the east and strike in the west—using the First Line Pass to draw every gaze, while they launch an attack on the West Pass."

"If I'm not mistaken, the West Pass will certainly fall within two or three days."

Before Zhuge Xuanji finished speaking, Zheng Tu burst out laughing. "You fake master really know how to spread panic. The West Pass has three hundred thousand Garrison troops stationed there, with plenty of experts holding the line. You say it'll fall, and it falls? I say you're trying to deliberately muddy the waters…."

But Ouyang Tianshu cut Zheng Tu off. "You say Qingqiu is feinting east to strike west—do you have proof?"

Zhuge Xuanji said, "A little over a thousand li to the west of here, there's a valley. In that valley stands a Heavenly Mechanism Chessboard. The Demon Clan has gathered nearly thirty Demon Kings there. They intend to move north from that spot to strike the rear of the West Pass. I suspect there are other arrangements set up around the West Pass as well."

"Heavenly Mechanism Valley, is it? I've heard of that place. Back then, my Ancestor Dragon City Ghost Commander played heaven-and-earth as a chessboard there with the Qingqiu Ancestor, sitting and discoursing on the dao. In the end he won by half a move, yet also fell there. That was the outcome of that war two hundred years ago. The Demon Clan withdrew, and my Ancestor Dragon won a great victory."

Ouyang Tianshu spoke, then looked at Zhuge Xuanji. "You say thirty Demon Kings have gathered there—so you mean you saw those Demon Kings heading north? That's why you came to report?"

Ouyang Tianshu glanced at Li Feng. If that were the case, then perhaps he had indeed misjudged this kid.

"Mm-hmm, thirty Demon Kings. Sounds quite convincing. Over a thousand li away, how did you discover them? And the Demon Clan has always had sharp senses. With that many Demon Kings gathered, and yet they didn't notice you, and still let you come running to tip us off? What a coincidence."

Zheng Tu naturally didn't believe it.
