Chapter 2109 -2107: Voices of Resentment

The night is as tranquil as water.

Yet the Fire Phoenix encampment is eerily silent; the daytime siege battle left the Demon Clan within the camp with mixed feelings.

Few were injured inside the camp because the First Line Pass is so treacherous that survival on the front line is nearly impossible—either killed or falling into the nearby abyss, leaving little chance of escape. Only those lingering in the rear survived.

By the campfire.

A dozen Demon Clan members sat around the campfire, eating dinner that had been prepared, when a robust Demon Clan man approached. The other Demon Clan members immediately made space upon seeing him arrive.

“Centurion.”

The Demon Clan Centurion directly sat in the space made for him, took the food handed to him, and quickly consumed it, then raised his eyes to look at the dozen Demon Clan members by the campfire.

“There’s good news and bad news.”

Demon Clan members nearby all raised their eyes to look over.

“The good news is that tomorrow we’re assigned to the third ten-thousand troop unit, so the siege shouldn’t fall on us.”

Upon the Centurion’s words, the dozen Demon Clan members all breathed a sigh of relief. Only one cat clan warrior did not relax so quickly, looking at the Centurion and asking, “What about the bad news?”

“The bad news is that in the coming days, the siege will be handed over to our Fire Phoenix encampment, so even if it’s not tomorrow, sooner or later it will be our turn.”

After listening to the Centurion’s words, all the Demon Clan warriors fell silent, while the campfire continuously crackled, sending sparks flying.

Suddenly, a bear clan warrior slammed the ground with a fist: “This clearly means sending us to our deaths.”

“Where is Lord Feng Yang?”

“Yes, we came to pledge to Lord Feng Yang to change our fate as cannon fodder, yet now we’re still cannon fodder. Elsewhere, at least we have a chance to catch our breath, but now we’re being pushed toward a dead end.”

“Ha, isn’t it obvious? There’s elite patrols by the Wolf Riders outside the camp, not allowing even a demon to leave. During today’s siege, elite members from the Three Tribes supervised the army, and anyone not advancing was killed directly.”

Nearby Demon Clan members began to join the conversation, complaining one after another. Just like the Human Clan, they have spiritual wisdom despite the different clan, yet once oppressed, complaints arise all the same.

“What’s the use of talking so much? We simply have no strength to resist.”

A Demon Clan member spoke, looking dejected.

The Demon Clan is a world where strength reigns supreme. In the Candle Dragon Demon Country, the Eight Gold Tribes are the noble aristocrats, while these medium and small tribes, or even demon clans no longer part of any tribe, are just seen as worthless cannon fodder in the eyes of others.

The surrounding Demon Clan members fell silent; no amount of complaint could change their fate.

“Why doesn’t Lord Feng Yang step up? We admired his strength and came to rely on him.”

A Demon Clan member brought up.

The Centurion sighed, “Have you not realized that Lord Feng Yang’s presence has already touched upon the interests of the Eight Tribes? He gave us opportunity and hope, helping us become stronger, and gathered a group of a hundred thousand of us in just two weeks.”

“This clearly made the Three Marshals in the three camps feel threatened. A thousand years ago, the Fire Phoenix Clan co-ruled the demon country with the Candle Dragon Demon Emperor, but now only the Candle Dragon Demon Emperor remains, while the Fire Phoenix Clan hasn’t appeared in a thousand years—this is not hard to see.”

“The Three Demon Marshals pretend to be friendly on the surface, but are secretly using tricks. First, they transferred Lord Feng Yang, who could contend with them, away from the camp, then took advantage of Feng Yang’s absence to directly order us to assault the pass.”

“The Three Marshals’ goal is simple: to let us all die, so even if Lord Feng Yang returns, his foundation will be uprooted, with us as a warning, and no one daring to pledge to him.”

The Centurion detailed the situation one by one, causing the Demon Clan warriors by the campfire to grit their teeth in anger.

“The Eight Tribes are utterly shameless; to maintain their power, they don’t give us low-rank demon clans any chance at survival.”

“Even knowing this, what can be done? Lord Feng Yang is not here, we’re like a dragon without a leader, and moreover, the elites by the Three Demon Marshals’ side are beyond our ability to contend with.”

The Eight Gold Tribes remain unshaken due to their formidable birth of Demon Marshals, and formidable tribal strength—for instance, the Wolf Clan’s six family tribes have a million members, with thirty thousand Wolf Riders alone. The Lion Clan has fewer members, but adult lions start as Demon Generals and are not of low rank, while the Demon Kings born in the Lion Clan are almost one in a hundred.

This probability is terrifying; normally a tribe numbering a hundred thousand might produce only one Demon King, though it isn’t absolute and also depends on the clan bloodline.

“Alas, we can only resign ourselves to fate.”

The Centurion did not rally his subordinates but instead spoke with a sense of resignation.

In the dark of the camp.

Ouyang Tianshu listened to the sighs and complaints in the camp, turned to Li Feng, and remarked, “This is what you had people spread.”

After deciding at the garrison, Ouyang Tianshu didn’t hesitate, leaving First Line Pass that night with a few people, nearly silently entering the camp. It could be said the Fire Phoenix encampment was like a sieve, with no defense.

Unfortunately, the terrain of First Line Pass made it difficult for the garrison to launch a night raid; otherwise, a raid would collapse the Fire Phoenix camp.

Yet, the collapse of the Fire Phoenix camp is irrelevant; the true elite of the Demon Clan is gathered in the three main camps, and if these camps remain stable, the Demon Clan won’t fall into disarray.

Li Feng nodded his head; he hadn’t expected Ouyang Tianshu to come alone with few men and dare to enter his camp.

“This tribe, I’ve gathered in too short a time; I just let them choose a Captain, Chiliarch, and Centurion themselves. Previously, while transferred to Tianji Valley, I took some spies inserted by the Three Marshals, and now within the Fire Phoenix camp, it’s nearly like scattered sand.”

“I can truly command no more than ten thousand demons, and as for the other Demon Clans, it’s hard to control them, especially when attacking the Three Marshals’ camp.”

“But the Three Marshals’ orders gave us an opportunity; they thought I was transferred away and killed, thinking quickly of burying these demons under me as cannon fodder, erasing all traces of me.”

“If I hadn’t survived, their actions would’ve made sense; but now that I’ve returned, it gives us a gap to exploit.”

“The Three Marshals keep pushing these demons as cannon fodder, certainly accumulating resentment, and when there’s an outlet for it, using herd instinct, these demons will naturally submit.”

“As long as we attack the Three Marshals’ camp, the plan will be half-successful, though there are many strong in their camp, with a calculated surprise and with Ancestor Dragon City’s strong intervening covertly, we can definitely quickly resolve these Demon Clan staunch warriors.”

“If we can overthrow a main camp, even if just one, it’s a gain.”
