Chapter 650: Clash of the Roof Emperors

  • Next Chapter

On the throne of the Holy City.

Lu Jun fell silent for a moment. In the past, he had never understood it. The Pacific Sea Demonic Empire invading Jiuzhou could at least be explained by the ancient blood feud between the two sides.

But the Antarctic Emperor clearly held no particular grudge against humanity, yet it actively expanded its influence, reversed the world’s climate, and swept freezing tides across the globe. He had never understood its purpose.

Likewise, seventy years later, the sudden expansion of the Sahara Desert, turning countless cities across the Western Continent into barren wastelands, had always seemed abrupt and inexplicable.

Now that Lu Jun had advanced to the level of an Roof Emperor, comprehending the laws governing the Magic Plane itself, he finally understood the reason.

It was related to the path of advancement beyond the Roof Emperor Realm.

If ordinary Emperors represented the pinnacle of individual power, and Ruler Emperors governed a single Authority or Law, such as the Cold Moon Eye Demon God and the Queen of the Undersea Undead, then Roof Emperors influenced an entire region of the world.

They were more accurately described as Lords of Ecology.

They embedded their own Authorities deep within the plane itself, refining portions of the entire world and transforming the ecology of an entire region. Only then could they ascend beyond the Roof Emperor Realm into the True God Realm, comparable to the Dark Kings of the Dark Plane.

That was why Antarctica, the Sahara, and the Bermuda Triangle were such extreme regions.

Those places were saturated with the Dao Marks of the three Roof Emperors. Fighting within their own domains allowed them to unleash at least twice the combat power they possessed elsewhere.

Even someone as powerful as Lu Jun could not help but feel wary.

The three Roof Emperors each followed a single, specialized path. To ascend into the True God Realm and dominate the Magic Plane, they had to spread their own extreme Dao Marks across the entire world.

The Antarctic Emperor’s apocalyptic cold wave had never been aimed solely at humanity.

Its true target was the ecology of the entire plane.

Every living being, whether human or demon, would be severely affected, returning the world to another Ice Age.

Take the Sea Empire as an example.

It immediately reached an agreement with the Antarctic Emperor, eagerly invading the continents in hopes of securing the dominant position in the next era of the world’s cycle.

Even if humanity were defeated, the terrestrial demon races of the Eastern Continent, such as the White Magic Eagle Tribe and the Demon Wolf Tribe, would still rise in resistance.

The cold threatened their survival just as much.

Simply put, the realm of an Roof Emperor resembled the merciless will of Heaven itself.

I reshape the world’s ecology. What does that have to do with humanity?

Although humanity’s situation was tragic, that was simply reality.

Even Forbidden Curse Mages struggled to fight ordinary Emperors, much less Roof Emperors. Even if every Forbidden Curse Mage in human civilization united, stepping into Antarctica would only end in total annihilation.

The Sahara Roof Emperor was no different.

Lu Jun sighed as he recalled what had been recorded in the original story.

According to historical records, the Antarctic Emperor had already lived for hundreds of thousands of years, predating the entire history of human civilization.

The ancient Ice Age had likely been the era in which the Antarctic Emperor ruled the Magic Plane.

However, it had ultimately fallen just short of success, being stopped by the joint efforts of the Sahara Emperor and the Sea Emperor, after which the world rapidly transformed into a warm, humid age.

That was precisely why none of the three Roof Emperors had ever reached the True God Realm.

The tripartite balance among them was the most stable arrangement possible.

One would dominate for an era, only to be replaced by another.

The Age of Oceans, the Era of Scorching Heat and Endless Deserts and the Ice Age.

Each opposed and restrained the others, preventing anyone from taking the final step.

There had even been times when all three gravely wounded one another during their conflicts and simultaneously fell into deep slumber.

Now that the Antarctic Emperor had begun to awaken, the Sahara Emperor and the Sea Emperor were likely not far behind.

That was why humanity’s prophets had predicted that the cities of the Western Continent would be swallowed by expanding deserts seventy years later.

It was far from alarmist.

Perhaps another one hundred and fifty years later, the oceans themselves would begin rising once again.

At the thought of this, Lu Jun’s expression grew solemn.

The three transcendent Roof Emperors were once again beginning a new struggle for supremacy.

It truly was a battle among gods while mortals suffered the consequences.

For thousands of years, humanity had been able to invent magic, multiply, and flourish only because the three Roof Emperors had remained asleep.

To beings like them, sleeping for several hundred years was no different from taking a nap.

A single great conflict occurred only once every ten thousand years.

Most of the time, they remained silent, existing almost like part of the world’s background.

Ironically, this only demonstrated how terrifying the Roof Emperors truly were.

The entirety of human civilization was insignificant compared to the weight of their existence.

"If nothing unexpected happens, then humanity is about to enter its darkest age."

Lu Jun sighed.

However, the birth of Fusion Magic would usher humanity into an unprecedented leap in strength.

Moreover, there were still two anomalies, himself and Mo Fan.

In truth, with his current cultivation, he could also reverse the world’s ecology.

The only difference was that, because his Nine Elemental Magic possessed a perfectly balanced and harmonious nature, the ecology after his transformation would remain virtually identical to what it had been before.

At most, the world would become richer in resources, all living things would flourish and multiply, life and death would remain in balance, the climate would become more temperate, space and time would stabilize, and the environment would become even more suitable for human survival. Magic itself would become the ultimate path, breaking the upper limit of Forbidden Curse magic.

This was because he had been born in a peaceful era and attained enlightenment within it. Unknowingly, his Dao had become perfectly aligned with the essence of this age, placing it in irreconcilable conflict with the Dao represented by the Three Roof Emperors.

He could already sense that a war between the four Roof Emperors was inevitable. As the newly born Fourth Roof Emperor, he had already become the variable destined to shatter the balance that had endured for hundreds of thousands of years.

The only question remaining was how that battle would be fought.

Lu Jun swept his gaze across the Forbidden Curse Mages gathered inside the grand hall before speaking calmly.

"I will consider launching a campaign against the Antarctic Emperor. Every nation will have to contribute this time. I intend to mobilize more than a hundred Forbidden Curse Mages to form a united army and march on Antarctica. Each country will provide forces according to the proportion of its Forbidden Curse Mages."

"Remember this. The burden must be shared fairly. Small nations have the responsibilities of small nations, and great nations must shoulder the responsibilities of great nations."

His seemingly casual words caused every Forbidden Curse Mage present to undergo a drastic change in expression.

Putting aside the fact that every nation remained deeply wary of one another and was unwilling to contribute too much, hoping instead to protect only itself, these Forbidden Curse Mages all stood at the pinnacle of human society, enjoying power and privilege. Who among them truly wished to risk their lives fighting Demons? It was exhausting, dangerous, and if they died, everything would be lost.

Lu Jun looked around the hall and let out a cold laugh. He understood exactly what many of them were thinking.

There were indeed mages who genuinely wished to put an end to the Antarctic disaster. The Forbidden Curse Mages of the Nine Provinces were the best example. With its vast territory and enormous population, countless civilians froze to death every year under the relentless cold wave, making it impossible for them not to be concerned.

But most of the nations of Western Europe and the Americas possessed long-standing traditions of treating ordinary civilians as little more than expendable resources. Why would they risk their own lives simply because common people suffered beneath the freezing tide?

Most of them were merely hoping to use Lu Jun as their weapon. In their minds, since he was so powerful, they could heap praise upon him, let him fight the Antarctic Emperor to the death, and then sit back and reap the benefits.

That was why Lady Luo of the Victoria Family and the other Western Forbidden Curse Mages wore particularly unpleasant expressions.

A moment later, Lu Jun added.

"Anyone willing to join me in the campaign against Antarctica will be the first to receive the Fusion Magic System."

That was the reward after the punishment.

He watched the crowd coldly, intending to see whether these Forbidden Curse Mages would obey his command. Otherwise, a thorough purge would inevitably become necessary.

Furthermore, Lu Jun had awakened the Chaos Element’s Divine Endowment, Dominion of Myriad Daos. He had discovered that the support of Forbidden Curse Mages would become indispensable. A single Forbidden Curse Mage might only be capable of contending against an Emperor-level Demon, but if over a hundred of them united under the effects of Dominion of Myriad Daos, the increase in overall combat power would be astonishing, multiplying their destructive might severalfold.

When that time came, Lu Jun was confident he could personally slay a Roof Emperor.

Moreover, the Antarctic Emperor commanded countless Emperor-level Demons beneath it. Those Emperors would naturally have to be dealt with by the Forbidden Curse Mages themselves.

Kings against kings.

Generals against generals.
