Village System: Blessed With the Duty of Reproduction
Chapter 139: Follow me, I’m totally not suspicious!
Gator Beasts shot out of the water like missiles, their large jaws open to crush whatever entered their mouths.
Kanan shot two of them in the head, cut one in half, then grabbed another by the tail that happened to get past him and Terin.
Clasping her hands together, Lopis wrapped shadows around the gator beast until its bones began to crack and its body went limp.
Terin was having the time of his life, stabbing gator beasts in the heart with a precision that Kanan was very impressed by, while also spinning his spear to create a whirlwind that continuously cut open the bodies of any gator beast that was unfortunate enough to be caught in it.
"How many of these beasts are there?" Fera asked, gritting her teeth as she strengthened her barrier more and more.
"It doesn’t matter how many there are!" Reda appeared in front of a gator beast, driving her knife through its eye. She then teleported onto another, stabbing it in the head, then another in its chest.
As she teleported onto another beast, the gator reacted quickly, grabbing her by the arm and slamming her onto the deck. But before it could slam its arms onto her chest, Fera blocked the attack with a barrier, and Lopis stabbed it through the heart with a shadow blade.
Kanan had the most gator beasts on him, but none of them were able to even touch a hair on his head. He moved around faster than any of them could react, firing spirit beams while cutting some in half with his staff.
He moved like a blur, so fast that it looked as though he were teleporting, flying, and sprinting at incredible speeds all at once.
There were a few gator beasts that managed to get the jump on him, but instead of counterattacking, Kanan simply continued doing what he was doing, trusting Terin to have his back.
"Hahaha! If you want to go after him, you’ll have to go after me first!" With a vortex around his lower half, Terin flew around the water, picking up gator beasts and shooting them with multiple mini cyclones into the chest, ripping straight through their tough scales.
But for as many gator beasts as they killed, more would arrive, as if there were an endless wave of them.
"Kanan, they just keep coming!" Terin shouted.
"Keep fighting if you can. If you’re tired, then fall back! I’ll make a way for us to escape!"
’Dammit! I should have had them learn the Spirit Core method before we left. It completely slipped my mind!’ That was the first thing Kanan would teach them once he had the opportunity.
"Kanan! To your left!"
Heeding Reda’s words, Kanan jumped back, trying to dodge the gator beast that had lunged at him, but instead of a gator beast, it was something else entirely.
"W-What the hell is that?!"
A massive fish that looked like one of those monstrosities that lived in the deepest layer of the ocean shot out of the water; its massive jaw, lined with many layers of razor-sharp teeth, clamped around a gator beast and tore it to shreds.
As it sank back into the water, it attacked the gator beasts underneath the surface, then shot back out of the water to attack the ones that were trying to escape it.
"I-Is that massive fish helping us?" Terin wondered
"I have no idea, but let’s take this opportunity to leave." Kanan suggested
Reda agreed. "I have no problem with that."
The team ran into the village, Kanan carrying Alue on his back. Still, the gator beasts followed after them.
While the village sat in and on the trees, there was a massive platform that covered the water around the village, allowing for gator beasts to swim underneath said platform while the others ran on it, being surprisingly fast.
"Do these beasts not know when to quit?" Kanan blasted a few with spirit energy, but as one fell, two took its place.
Terin, who was riding his vortex, smiled as he looked behind them. "At least the fish is still following us."
"Terin, we don’t know if that fish is friendly. For all we know, we just aren’t its prey, but that doesn’t mean it won’t eat us," Lopis informed him, moving into her shadow to avoid a gator beast lunging at her.
"Haha! Well, for now, that fish is our ally in my eyes!"
Continuing forward, the team nearly reached one of those makeshift Stone Age-era-looking elevators, with Kanan telling everyone to run for that structure. They needed to get to higher ground, as once there, they could rest.
Unfortunately, luck was not on their side.
Another massive gator beast broke through the platform and lunged for Kanan. Spirit energy pulsed around his body, ready to defend against the beast. But this was when he noticed something.
Green vein-like markings were on the beast’s neck, and its eyes looked a bit hazy, as if it wasn’t in control of itself.
’The Verminus Plant!’ Kanan thought to himself as he prepared to fire a spirit blast.
All of a sudden, the fish shot out of the water once more and bit the gator beast in half, killing it with no effort.
"Haha! I told you that the fish was a friend!"
"You six! Quickly, follow me!" A man shouted from afar.
Turning their direction to the northeast, everyone spotted a man in the trees waving his hand.
He wore green pants made out of vines, leaves, and leather, with a vine strap wrapped around his back and a harpoon holstered on it.
Green tattoos were drawn across his whole body, even on his face, and they were currently glowing, similar to how the markings on the Typhon Tribe glowed when they used their spirit abilities.
"Who are you?!" Terin demanded to know.
"I’ll explain on the way! Just follow me, now! If you stay any longer, you’ll awaken the Mother Beast!"
Kanan wasn’t one to trust strangers, but for the time being, he had no choice, especially with Alue being injured.
"Fine. Let’s go, everyone." Kanan made a platform for everyone and followed the mysterious man.
