Chapter 75 | The Real Bully
Chapter 75: 75 | The Real Bully
After the meeting ended, Emma and Dante walked side by side through the hallway toward the CEO office. Sasha followed a few steps behind.
Emma’s heart had been racing since the meeting ended but she kept her face neutral. The mission timer was ticking in the corner of her vision.
’I have to do it now. It’s going to be way harder to find a chance at home.’ She glanced at the hallway. It was empty except for the three of them.
She just needed to get rid of the redhead.
"Sasha." Emma said without turning her head. "Get us some coffee."
"Can’t we just have someone bring it up, Ms. Emma?" Sasha asked with a reluctant face. "The break room is three floors down."
’Normally she’s not this dense. What’s wrong with her today?’ Emma stopped walking and gave her a look.
That was all Sasha needed.
"I’ll be right back!" Sasha read the air and took off before another word was said.
Emma watched her disappear around the corner. Then the two of them kept walking in silence.
The hallway was completely empty now. Just the sound of their footsteps and Emma’s heartbeat getting louder with every step.
They were about to turn a corner when she started counting in her head.
’Five.’
’Four.’
’Three.’
’Two.’
’One.’
Emma stopped in her tracks. She turned around, grabbed the front of his suit, and started pushing him backward.
"You... what are you doing?" Dante spoke with an irritated face, his feet moving back with every step she took forward. His back hit the wall with a soft thud.
Emma slammed her hand against the wall right beside his head and leaned in. She was wearing her tallest heels today specifically for this but she was still a few inches short.
She leaned in further until her breath was hitting his face. She looked at him with a teasing smile but inside she was falling apart.
Ba-thump! Ba-thump!
However, there wasn’t a single hint of nervousness on Dante’s face. He just stared back at her with an arrogant smile.
’Why isn’t he reacting?! He’s supposed to be nervous! System, are you there? Did you lie to me?’ She started panicking when she got no reply. ’Did it set me up? Am I doing it wrong?’
What she didn’t know was that her system was the guy standing right in front of her.
In the end, she decided to just stick with the plan.
"Aren’t you scared of what I’m about to do?" Emma grinned, lifting his chin with her fingers.
Dante shook his head free from her hand and smiled. "Why would I be scared of a crybaby?"
"Haha, you’ve got some nerve." Emma barely kept a straight face after being called by her childhood nickname. "But I’ll let you off the hook."
"In return..." She paused, pointing her finger at him and then at herself.
"You."
"And me."
"Are going to the Tempest Bay Business Gala. You will be my partner." She spoke in a firm tone like it was already decided.
Dante opened his mouth to say something but Emma pressed her finger against his lips, stopping him.
"No. I’m not asking. You’re coming with me." She shook her head gently with a smile.
Dante was glaring at her with some annoyance in his eyes while a devious smile formed on the inside.
He had just confirmed something.
This time, he was the one counting.
’Five.’
’Four.’
’Three.’
’Two.’
’One.’
Right on cue, the sound of footsteps came from around the corner.
Sasha appeared with two cups of coffee in her hands, slightly out of breath from running three floors.
She froze the moment she saw them.
Emma had Dante pinned against the wall with her finger pressed on his lips and a smile on her face that Sasha had never seen in her life. Their faces were barely inches apart.
"I— excuse— sorry—" Sasha spun around so fast the coffee nearly flew out of the cups and bolted down the hallway like she had just witnessed a crime scene.
"SASHA, WAIT! THIS ISN’T WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE!" Emma let go of Dante and took a step after her.
But she moved too fast in heels she wasn’t used to. Her ankle twisted and she pitched forward, the floor rushing up to meet her face.
’Damn it, I shouldn’t have worn these heels!’ She squeezed her eyes shut, bracing for impact.
Before she hit the ground, an arm wrapped around her waist and pulled her back. Her body spun and her back pressed against the wall with a soft thud.
Dante was standing over her with one hand on the wall beside her head and the other still resting on her waist.
It all happened so fast that it took her a second to process it. But the moment she did, her mind went completely blank. ’D-did he just catch me and do a wall slam?’
He looked down at her with a calm expression before leaning in slightly. "That’s how you do a wall slam." He said in a low mesmerizing voice.
Ba-thump! Ba-thump!
Emma turned her face to the side, unable to look at him. Her cheeks were burning and she could feel the heat spreading to her ears. ’I tried so hard and he did it like it was nothing. That’s so unfair.’
But she didn’t hate it... one bit.
Dante glanced at her all flustered with her legs trembling and a grin formed on his face.
’I don’t mind my woman taking the initiative, but I’m not enough of a masochist to give someone a system to actually BULLY me.’
He was already in the passive role since the heroines were the ones doing missions while he played along. So he needed a system where he could be the one on the offensive.
And he needed someone to ’bully’.
Emma, the business queen.
A woman who had driven countless rivals insane by finding loopholes in contracts and flipping deals on their heads. She was the type to sign a deal that looked like she was losing and walk out owning the whole company.
So he wanted to give her a taste of her own medicine.
On paper, the Bullying System worked exactly the way it sounded. Emma receives missions to bully Dante, completes them, and collects her rewards.
But there was a catch she hadn’t figured out yet.
She would fulfill the requirements and technically "bully" him. The system would congratulate her and hand her the reward.
But the person who actually got bullied in the end would always be her.
The Bullying System wasn’t designed to let Emma bully him. It was designed to let Dante bully Emma while making her think it was the other way around.
’Hehe, this is gonna be fun.’
