Chapter 90: Lancelot To The Front

  • Next Chapter

"Danger!" Belva was immediately alarmed by the deathly presence and got into her fighting stance.

She was about to conjure a big spell to launch an attack as she stood in front of Ray to protect him.

BONK!

But little did she expect to get bonked by Ray from behind.

"Are you stupid?" Ray twitched his mouth. "Did you not just hear my amazing vocal voice earlier?"

"Amazing vocals?" Belva tilted her head. "You mean your child syndrome where you suddenly shout something nonsensical again?"

"..."

Ray felt like he had just been shot by an arrow in his heart. It was also bleeding at the moment from how painful it was to communicate with someone who doesn’t have the same vibe as you.

No, it was more correct to say in the same era as you.

How could they not understand the ’I choose you, Blank Name!’ statement?

Did he need to wear a red cap as well?

But that would immediately warrant a copyright strike and a lawsuit straight to his doorstep.

"Ugh, forget it." Ray pursed his lips and explained. "You know summoning magic, right. This Lancelot baddie is my summon."

"This knight that carries the sense of death is your summon?" Belva stared at Lancelot, who had a mighty presence. She swallowed a mouthful of saliva.

’What summon magic? This is clearly necromancer.’ She thought to herself.

It was almost common knowledge that a necromancer was always aligned or equivalent to evil or villain.

After all, they go against the laws of the world and summon the undead.

Some extremists even go as far as capturing live humans for test subjects and turning them into undead summons.

Although necromancy was extremely difficult to learn and master, there were still many who strived to study it due to numerous reasons.

And 9 out of 10 times, these necromancers were proven to be disasters who only brought havoc to the world.

However, there was a major difference between them and Ray.

Necromancers usually carried a foul stench around them. Not even magic, items, or perfume could mask it completely. They could try to suppress it slightly, but as long as one focused on them, they would be able to detect their foul stench.

Yet such a stench didn’t appear in Ray’s.

Because that stench didn’t show up, Belva wouldn’t have known the undead knight belonged to Ray’s.

So was he really a necromancer or just some other branch of magic?

She had no idea, and she’d rather save her brain juice for this aspect.

"I’ll protect you from the back and side then." Belva calmly said. With Lancelot at the front, she wouldn’t have to risk her life as much.

She also realized why Ray wanted Margaret to leave the scene.

His explanation was logical, but she reckoned this might be his true reason.

"Lancelot, forward and kill all those with hostility in front," Ray commanded coldly.

In that moment, Lancelot’s eyes glinted in a red light. He unsheathed his long black sword and walked forward.

"Tell me that’s not the coolest thing you have seen, Belva." Ray’s eyes fluttered like a fanboy in a comic bookstore.

If one couldn’t understand his joy right now, he could only send his condolences to them for having such a trashy lifestyle.

Sometime later, Lancelot began leading the way while Ray and Belva followed behind at a fixed distance.

Ray remained relaxed on the surface, but he was secretly sharing a vision with Lancelot to inspect the surroundings.

Yes, he was lazy and laidback, but not when the situation clearly screamed danger.

’Hmm, the passage didn’t seem to be tampered with. The person knows exactly what they’re doing and where they’re going.’ He deduced inwardly.

Of course, Belva didn’t know what was going on in his mind and merely thought he was taking it very lightly.

But then again, one couldn’t blame her because that was Ray’s intention.

Never let your opponent know your next moves, and especially so when it is your allies.

What was this called?

The classic misdirection according to Sun Tzu.

Was it really by him though?

Nah, but who the hell cares anyway?

A few minutes later, Lancelot suddenly halted his steps.

"An enemy?" Belva narrowed her eyes and got ready to fight.

"No, not an enemy." Ray shook his head and gestured to Lancelot to approach ahead cautiously.

"Hmm, more dead guards." He frowned and wondered how no alarms were triggered.

It couldn’t be that these guards were so useless as not even to trigger any alarm when their comrade died next to them mysteriously, right?

Please don’t be like those dumb movies where they just stood still like a dork or screamed at the top of their lungs as if it would help them survive.

This scene wasn’t even in the novel, and the novel itself was under the lens of the protagonist for the time.

In other words, whatever was happening was something out of Ray’s control. The protagonist was probably still occupied in the dumb welcome ceremony.

’Fuck, I should have told Margaret to bring William along. If he’s here, I could just delegate all the tedious tasks to him.’ He seriously made an amateur mistake.

"Do you know how to investigate their cause of death, Belva?" Ray turned to her and asked.

"I’m not an investigator, Young Master." She smiled bitterly.

How was she supposed to know their exact cause of death?

"I can only tell that they had been killed cleanly in one strike from a weapon that resembled a dagger?"

"Well, thank you, Miss Obvious."

He rolled his eyes. The corpses all had their neck sliced cleanly, with barely any blood. This goes to show that the killer was extremely swift with their strike that their body failed to even react in time.

It was a creepy sight, to say the least, and he had no intention of glancing any further than required.

Some might enjoy such a grotesque scene, but not him.

He was a sane person and not some freak. ’How did a lighthearted academy life turn into this killing-spree horror element? Just what the hell was the author smoking when she wrote this?’
