Chapter 14: Pretending

Walking into the rooftop area, Huo Yingsu saw a large number of young researchers there. Their attire were similar to her and some of them raised their heads when they saw her before looking at the other side, clearly not bothered with her presence.

Is there no one who knows that woman from before?

Huo Yingsu thought to herself and simply maintained a calm and composed expression, but her fingers were gripped tightly.

She was worried that someone would know that she was fake.

The ID card was hung on her neck, showing the identity of that researcher woman whom she encountered not long ago.

"Don’t wander around too much," one of them said to Huo Yingsu when he saw her started walking. "There will be an important announcement later."

Announcement?

Huo Yingsu’s heart constricted when she thought about the apocalypse and the arrival of the Live Stream Horror Survival Game.

Could this be the start of the apocalypse in this world?

"I know," Huo Yingsu replied in a low voice.

"Tsk, the elevator is taking so much time," a male researcher complained. He was still young and since most of them came from various university, it seemed that they didn’t know each other.

At least, this was what Huo Yingsu thought.

As for whether someone was suspicious of her or something... sorry, she didn’t have any idea how she could better protect herself.

She was just an ordinary person.

"Isn’t it because the meeting room had to be prepared but we’re not allowed to enter the laboratory that we all gather here?" Another female researcher sighed in annoyance.

"Tsk."

"The company is too arrogant."

"Sssh! We’ve been given the perfect opportunity to participate in this announcement this time. It’s a historical meeting, one that we would never be able to participate in anymore in the future."

Historical meeting?

Huo Yingsu pursed her lips slightly.

Of course it would be a historical meeting because it would mark the end of the world. If her guess was right, then this meeting wouldn’t be peaceful.

She didn’t really want to participate in such a mess.

But...

Huo Yingsu glanced at her panel.

Identity: HR Employee of the J Medical Research Company

Mission: [1] Survive for 5 days

[2] Investigate the truth of the apocalypse cause

[3] Retrieve the USB drive containing the apocalypse source information

Return requirement: Complete at least one mission ]

Mission number 2 was to investigate the apocalypse’s cause. What would be the best place to investigate but to watch the apocalypse happen with her own eyes?

Huo Yingsu knew that the main character in this story once did something similar.

Of course, it was not in this world.

But anyway...

It was still in similar world.

She wanted to complete as many missions as possible and then obtained the points in order to strengthen herself.

So taking a risk would be inevitable.

"Oh, the elevator is finally here."

"There are too many people, let’s go with the next one." The female researcher looked disgusted when she saw that the people were basically crowding over the elevator.

She didn’t want to be pushed around by those men.

It’s too disgusting!

Huo Yingsu glanced at the other researchers and saw that some of them were in agreement.

Anyway, it wouldn’t take much time.

And since these people were quite talkative, Huo Yingsu also decided not to take the first batch and listened to their conversation.

"Anyway...."

For the next half an hour, Huo Yingsu did nothing but to listen to these people’s conversation while portraying herself as a silent researcher.

Thankfully, she’s not the only one, so she didn’t really attract much attention.

Through these people’s words, she found out that they were researchers who were recruited to the company not long ago. They were also here for the sake of their professors.

At least, some of them were.

Their professors have already heard about the groundbreaking achievements that the company made, thus they sent their students over, hoping that they could achieve something and possibly get valuable information.

As long as they could figure out the research direction or even some valuable data, then their professors might be able to develop something similar.

Besides, it would also be good for their career.

Huo Yingsu understood.

’So that’s why there are so many newcomers and why I can blend in easily...’

Knowing the truth, Huo Yingsu breathed a sigh of relief.

She’s still a newcomer and the game naturally wouldn’t make things extremely difficult for her.

But still....

Huo Yingsu looked at the door in front of her and silently slipped a pair of scissor that she found into her pocket for self defense.

If something were to happen inside, she had to be able to protect herself and survive!
