…
Two days later.
Starlight Royal Academy, Central Medical Center.
“You’re recovering quite well.”
The senior healer responsible for treating Victor withdrew his hand. Looking at the golden light gradually dissipating before him, a satisfied smile finally appeared on his face.
“The fractures in your chest have basically healed, and the abyssal contamination in your left arm has been completely eliminated. As for the damaged muscles in your right arm, they’ve also recovered almost entirely thanks to the combined effects of advanced healing magic and recovery potions.”
“So, I can be discharged?” Victor sat at the edge of the hospital bed and flexed his right hand.
“You can. However, you’d better avoid high intensity combat for the next three days.”
“No problem.” Victor agreed without the slightest hesitation.
The healer glanced at him, clearly having little confidence in that promise.
However, since the examination results showed no further problems, he naturally had no reason to keep him hospitalized.
“Also, the academy will arrange a follow-up examination. Remember to come back on time.”
“Got it.”
Victor stood up, put on his coat, and walked straight out of the ward.
He had barely stepped outside the medical center when he spotted a familiar slender figure wearing a simple black combat uniform leaning against a stone pillar not far away.
“Young Master.” Seeing Victor emerge, Evelyn straightened her posture.
“Have you been waiting long?”
“No.”Evelyn replied calmly, “Only since this morning.”
Victor glanced at the sky.
It was already approaching noon.
“…Couldn’t you have just come inside?”
“The healer said you needed rest.”
“How obedient of you.”
“At least I’m more obedient than someone who barged into the screening area without permission.”
The corner of Victor’s mouth twitched.
He had noticed that ever since he survived that battle, this woman’s words seemed to be growing increasingly impudent. It was clear that she was very pissed at him for his actions. However, he couldn’t be bothered to argue with her.
“How’s the matter with Mia going?”
Hearing that name, Evelyn’s expression became slightly more serious.
“I’ve investigated everything. She’s from a commoner background and currently lives in the freshman dormitories in the academy’s eastern district. Her entrance examination results weren’t bad. In fact, she ranked near the top in the theoretical examination.”
Victor nodded. “Where is she now?”
“Training Ground Three in the eastern district.”
“The training ground?”
“Yes.” Evelyn nodded. “She’s been practicing mana control there for the past two days, although the results don’t seem particularly promising.”
Victor smiled. “Then let’s go take a look.”
…
Eastern District, Training Ground Three.
Compared to the luxurious advanced training grounds in the academy’s central district, this place appeared rather ordinary.
The spacious grounds were divided into more than a dozen independent sections where low level students could practice basic techniques.
Since it was currently lunchtime, there weren’t many people around.
In an area near the farthest corner, a slender young girl stood alone before a mana testing device.
The girl had smooth chestnut brown hair and delicate features. She wore the standard freshman training uniform issued by the academy.
At this moment, she had both hands pressed against a translucent mana crystal, struggling to control the mana within her body as she attempted to complete a basic mana resonance test according to the device’s requirements.
Buzz!
A faint blue light appeared on the crystal’s surface.
However, before the light could stabilize, the mana patterns inside suddenly flickered.
Pop!
A soft sound rang out and the light went out.
[Resonance Failed.]
[Insufficient Mana Stability.]
Looking at the notification on the testing device, Mia gently bit her lower lip.
This was already her seventeenth attempt today.
According to the academy’s standards, basic mana resonance wasn’t particularly difficult. Many students who had already awakened their professions could complete it effortlessly. Yet she had never been able to maintain a stable resonance.
It wasn’t because she couldn’t sense mana.
Quite the opposite. Whenever she concentrated her spiritual power inside the crystal, she could vaguely perceive the subtle connections between the mana patterns. She could even sense that the mana flow through certain nodes was slightly abnormal.
The problem was that the mana within her body was simply too weak.
Even if she could detect the problem, she didn’t have enough power to correct it.
“One more time.”
Mia took a deep breath and placed both hands on the crystal again.
However, just then, a slightly amused voice suddenly came from behind her.
“If I were you, I wouldn’t keep wasting mana like that.”
Mia was startled and hurriedly turned around.
Not far away, a young man dressed in dark noble attire was walking toward her, accompanied by a woman in black.
When she recognized the young man’s face, Mia froze.
“Se… Senior Victor?”
Victor Alves! There were probably very few students in Starlight Royal Academy who didn’t recognize that name now.
Especially after what had happened two days ago, news of his achievements had already spread throughout the academy.
Although the academy hadn’t released the complete battle footage, too many students and instructors had participated in the screening for the news to be completely suppressed.
Some people even claimed that Victor had displayed an extraordinarily powerful hidden bloodline during the battle.
Of course, ordinary students had no way of knowing how much truth there was to those rumors.
But one thing was certain. The current Victor was no longer the noble young master who only knew how to bully others using his family’s influence.
At least when it came to strength, nobody dared underestimate him so easily anymore.
“You know me?” Victor asked with a small smile.
Mia hurriedly nodded. “Of course!”
“Good. That saves me the trouble of introducing myself.”
Victor walked up to the testing device and glanced at the failure records displayed on it.
“Seventeen times?”
Mia’s cheeks reddened slightly embarrassment.
“Y… Yes.”
“Quite persistent.” Victor nodded.
“Unfortunately, if your method is wrong, even another hundred attempts might not help.”
Mia eyebrows rose slightly. After hesitating for a moment, she couldn’t help asking, “Senior, do you know what the problem is?”
Victor pointed at the mana crystal before them and said..
