Chapter 162- Learning (Part 3)
Rize was never a unique person; his past life was, in fact, the opposite of that. He had no real good qualities, except for his decent academic abilities and how tech-savvy he was. But those skills didn’t really help his social life or even give him a way to become a better person. He would dare to say that because he was good at those two things, it only made him more of a loner and someone who couldn’t interact or communicate with others.
He had never felt like he truly excelled at something that most people don’t excel at. He was just the most ordinary, perhaps even subpar human being to ever exist. If someone told him that his life would change in such a manner when he least expected it to, he would’ve thought that person was hallucinating or mocking him.
Yet, here he was, making an ancient being like Baragon completely speechless by his monstrous talent and learning ability. Rize wasn’t just unique in this regard; he was truly one of a kind, someone Baragon had never seen before in his life.
Even the best of talents couldn’t dare to dream of achieving what Rize had done in a few minutes. He had pushed what is supposed to be impossible to a whole new realm that no other creature before or perhaps after him could ever pull off.
It was a history in the making, and the first moment ever when someone truly broke the rules of the world without realizing it.
What made it even more insane was the fact that Rize wasn’t even in his peak state, far from. He was beyond exhausted, both mentally and physically. He was injured, cold, wet, with the weight of the entire world on his shoulders. Yet, even then, he was able to do something no one else could do.
That idea made Baragon’s mind freeze for a second. If he was in his peak mental state, what could this boy do? What could he even achieve?
The idea scared the man, and he hated to admit that. Such potential shouldn’t exist in this world, as a talent of Rize’s level could flip the entire continent on its head and turn everything around. If one of the main powers of the world even had a sniff of his powers, the boy would make them wage wars just to gain him.
Wars that would cost millions of lives would be waged just for one single individual; that was how utterly ridiculous Rize was.
However, Baragon knew not to foolishly reveal Rize’s existence. He had other plans in mind, and things he wanted to see Rize do so he could finally understand what the prophecy he heard all those thousands of years ago meant.
Time moved slowly as Rize’s aura stabilized more and more as his understanding reached a whole new level. What was once a mountain of information was slowly decreasing in size as his brain understood these complex concepts rapidly. With his intelligence, Rize could analyze thousands of thoughts in seconds and instantly memorize them as if his mind were a computer or something stronger.
When the pain finally became somewhat bearable, Rize exhaled as he could finally focus fully on the task. The speed suddenly doubled, and he was starting to take entire parts together to handle them at the same time.
He didn’t care that it was a huge burden on his brain; he had to get this over with as quickly as possible.
’I’m... understanding... it more.’ He thought to himself. The more he understood, the more the image grew in his head as he started realizing what this technique was all about. Each new piece of information added to the image surprised him even more.
This was no mere technique; this was an entire field of Essence that nobody knew about before and wasn’t even mentioned by the author. The way the essence and his core are manipulated in this particular technique was so fascinating.
Rize felt a rush of excitement going through this discovery as he smiled to himself. ’This is crazy... No, even more than that! This could truly be it!’
The breakthrough that Rize was looking for, the power that he needed to push himself to the ceiling of power in this world. The tool that Baragon just gave him was nothing short of a miracle, and it somehow complemented him perfectly.
’No, I need to focus and finish first before doing it. I’m so excited!’ He exclaimed in his mind as he went back to work, dissecting the load rapidly.
After a long while, Rize finally reached the very last piece of information, exhaled a long breath and opened his eyes. His head hurt a lot, and he felt nauseous, but the pain wasn’t there anymore and instead, he had a whole new concept completely understood, just like that.
He looked left and right, the sound of the wind outside and the rain returned to him and the cold temperatures of the cave wrapped around his body. However, for some reason, Rize felt like he was a completely new person. He felt as if everything he was seeing and sensing wasn’t the same anymore.
Then, his eyes loàcked onto Venera and Rose as he exhaled a long sigh of relief when he noticed that they were completely fine. They were being protected by an ancient being like Baragon after all.
Then, Rize shifted his gaze to the man himself, who was watching him in silence.
"How much time has passed?" He asked.
"A few hours." The man replied with an odd tone. "Are you done?"
"Yes," Rize said. "That was honestly way harder than I expected. The pain was brutal, but I was able to manage somewhat good."
’Somewhat good...’ Baragon didn’t know if he should laugh or cry at the boy’s absurd comment. If he knew how ridiculous what he did is, he might die of a heart attack. However, the man decided not to mention it as he instead focused on the matter at hand.
"How do you feel?" He asked.
"I feel... so odd... But also, this technique you taught me... How could it even exist? It is so powerful. Being able to absorb essence at this rate and convert it into your own essence with almost 80% success is... That would change someone completely."
"Indeed." He said. "That is what the few who gained that technique during my time did. They became so much stronger so fast because they focused on absorbing essence and letting their cores mature and their bodies evolve rapidly."
"... Is that why the people of your time were so ridiculously powerful and almost mythical in a sense?" He asked.
"Yes."
"..."
’It explains so much. I always wondered how anyone during that time, with so little understanding of essence compared to the modern time, was able to reach those heights of power and not only that, but change the landscape of the world.’
The fact this technique existed explained why as they had dozens of times the growth speed of an average or even talented awakener of the modern times.
"I must say, though. You are an exception in this regard, human."
"Huh?"
"People need days and even weeks to even understand a bit of the information I bestowed upon you. You learning this in a few hours... Is unheard of."
"Really? Is it that impressive?" Rize asked. ’I didn’t realize that. I was too focused on the task. But, I can see why people would struggle to learn it. If they can’t bear the pain, they won’t be able to focus and that probably leads to their demise if they make a mistake.’
Rize was almost close to making a mistake but he was able to recover and get the rhythm back. His calmness under pressure was something he was proud of and what came to use during this test.
"Now, would you try it so we could see it with our own eyes?" He asked.
"Yeah..." Rize nodded as he closed his eyes for a second before he sucked a deep breath. Then, using the new knowledge he gained, he started following the guide to a T.
He channeled his essence, moving it in a particular and very precise way. Any mistake or disturbance will break the rhythm and will make the process halt immediately. However, Rize was confident, and he was knowledgeable, so he continued on steadily as the air around him shifted and changed.
What he didn’t see was the essence that floated around him, slowly turning toward him as it started floating closer and closer. The energy then entered his body through his pores, slowly seeping into his muscles, veins, bones, and every cell of his being.
Eventually, it reached his core, which then triggered the next step... Absorption. His core started slowly converting that raw energy into his energy, refining it, and then sending it into the circulatory system.
Then... The process repeated.
