The Academy welcome bell finished announcing Damien before Lucas's carriage reached the outer steps.

Fresh admission ink covered the hall floor, while the registrar's title still traveled through every crystal relay.

Damien sat on the edge of the entrance platform, letting Yuki measure his numb hand beneath the torn sleeve.

Vivienne stood behind him, replacing the broken admission clasp with a silver strip from her own coat.

"Hold still," she said, fastening the strip beneath his throat, "you are making enrollment look difficult."

"The Academy wanted a memorable first impression," Damien replied, watching her fingers, "I provided several."

Her thumb lingered against his pulse, while the damaged blade above his shoulder reflected the blue hall.

Seraphina knelt beside Damien, replacing the burned cloth around her glove with a clean white strip.

She kissed the new scar across his palm, making three nearby students forget their enrollment questions.

"The endpoint left a mark," she said, smiling at the red line, "I will make it a relic."

"Please avoid starting a shrine before lunch," Damien replied, feeling her mouth touch the scar again, "the faculty may panic."

Raven leaned over the platform rail, showing her newly cracked horn to a group of fascinated first-years.

"The chapter tried to kill us," she announced, pointing at Damien, "he owes me the first rematch."

"The chapter did not issue a calendar," Damien said, looking toward her horn, "we should avoid rewarding bad planning."

Raven grinned, then pressed her shoulder into his uninjured side.

Shizuka emerged from the shadow beneath the registrar's desk, placing one black note against Damien's knee.

{The outer gate has three banners, two belong to Lucas, one belongs to you now.}

Damien folded the note, then looked beyond the hall windows toward the Academy's main road.

Lucas's carriage rolled beneath the blue arch, surrounded by gold escorts that appeared five minutes too late.

The crowd had already spent its cheers on Damien, leaving Lucas's arrival with polite claps.

One student tried to start a hero chant, yet the surrounding hall answered with Damien's title instead.

Lucas stepped from the carriage in a gold coat, his copied aura bright enough to tint the paving stones.

His smile held for three steps, then weakened when nobody opened a second admission relay for him.

The Academy had prepared a welcome arch above the road, though the painted name beneath it read Damien Sterling.

The arch had been hung before the entrance exam, then repainted during the sealed chamber's collapse.

Damien saw his own title above Lucas's head, which made the welcome more awkward than the lethal exam.

"The Academy has reused the greeting," Damien said, standing beside Vivienne, "the budget remains committed."

Vivienne adjusted the silver strip at his throat, keeping her hand there while Lucas approached.

"It fits you better," she said, looking at the arch, "the original name lacked accuracy."

Lucas stopped beneath the words, his blue eyes moving from the title to Vivienne's hand.

The first mural stood behind him on the entrance wall, showing the Academy's chosen hero beside five empty spaces.

The Academy had repainted the mural during the exam, replacing Lucas with Damien at its center.

The new mural carried Vivienne's blade, Yuki's frost, Seraphina's gold, Raven's horn, and Shizuka's shadow.

Aurelia's separate gold line appeared in the corner as a royal annotation, not a household claim.

Lucas stared at the mural, then touched the unfinished sun symbol left beneath his old portrait.

"This was supposed to be my welcome," he said, looking toward the dean, "the Academy invited me as its guest of honor."

The dean approached with a sealed folder, wearing the tired expression of someone who had lost control of stationery.

"Your welcome was scheduled," she replied, checking the relay slate, "the students requested a revision."

The public crystals displayed requests from students, faculty, graduates, and one baker demanding Damien's title.

The dean opened the folder, then revealed a new program printed over Lucas's welcome feast.

"The feast has been rebooked," she said, turning toward Damien, "the hall wanted a survivor's table."

Raven raised one hand from Damien's shoulder, then pointed toward the banquet map.

"Is there an opponent's table," she asked, "I prefer food near future fights."

"There is an evidence table," the dean answered, watching Raven's daggers, "please do not challenge the roast."

Raven lowered her hand, visibly considering the roast's defensive potential.

Damien looked toward Lucas, who stood beside the repainted mural with one fist closed.

The hero's copied aura flickered at the edges, showing Elian's sacrifice inside every borrowed glow.

Lucas's gaze returned to Damien, carrying anger, shame, and a question he could not ask publicly.

"You arrived late," Damien said, resting one hand over Vivienne's, "the welcome has already been spent."

"You took it," Lucas answered, looking at the five girls, "you took every part meant for me."

Seraphina stepped close to Damien, her white sleeve brushing his coat beside the public relay.

"He took nothing that was freely given," she said, smiling toward Lucas, "your complaint lacks a victim."

The hall went quiet, then several students turned their admission badges outward beside Damien's title.

Lucas noticed the movement, while the dean opened a second folder meant for his consolation.

"The Academy still honors your arrival," the dean said, holding the papers forward, "we have preserved a suitable path."

Damien recognized the heading before Lucas read it, because the old villain schedule had existed in the novel's first Academy arc.

The folder contained remedial sword theory, auxiliary ward maintenance, blame hearings, empty practice hours, and dormitory fines.

It also assigned Lucas the narrow east tower room where Damien had once lived beneath a leaking roof.

"This is Damien Sterling's former schedule," Lucas said, scanning the pages, "why is my name written over his?"

The registrar checked the page, then checked the hall roster, then quietly blamed the copying clerk.

"The clerk used the old placement template," she explained, lowering the folder, "the assignment is valid."

"It can be corrected," Lucas said, looking toward the dean, "the schedule is clearly wrong."

The dean examined the public requests, then found every student relay voting to preserve the arrangement.

"Correction requires a new faculty vote," she said, folding the papers, "the vote has not been requested."

Nobody in the hall requested it, because the villain's old life had become the only consolation still available.

Damien watched Lucas receive the old schedule, the old room, and the old suspicion in one blue folder.

'The Story gave me three years of punishment. The Academy has found a resale market for those hours.'

The system panel opened above the repainted mural, gold letters covering Lucas's unfinished sun.

[Academy welcome: already spent]

[Guest of honor: Damien Sterling]

[Mural: repainted by popular demand]

[Welcome feast: rebooked, survivor's table]

[Lucas Arden: consolation path assigned]

[Old villain schedule: transferred by clerical error]

[Correction request: none submitted]

[System note: The schedule is wrong. Nobody has volunteered to fix it.]

Lucas folded the schedule, then tucked it beneath his arm as if accepting a sentence.

The dean led him toward the east tower, where students pointed out the cracked windows Damien had once hated.

Damien felt Vivienne's fingers close around his, while Yuki's warm cloth covered the scarred palm.

Seraphina touched his shoulder, Raven announced three possible routes to the feast, and Shizuka vanished into the mural's shadow.

Aurelia stood apart beside the royal stair, her gold line still separate from the household braid.

"Your rival has inherited your furniture," she said, watching Lucas leave, "the wager has developed taste."

"It inherited my worst hours," Damien replied, looking at the east tower, "the furniture was innocent."

Aurelia's sleeve brushed his arm, warming the Half-Eye Token before she withdrew toward her separate escort.

The feast began beneath Damien's repainted mural, while Lucas ate alone beneath the old title's shadow.

Students filled the survivor's table, asking Damien about the sealed floor until Raven charged answers by rematch.

The faculty kept Lucas's old place empty, because nobody knew whether the clerical error had become policy.

After sunset, Lucas returned to the east tower with the schedule still beneath his arm.

The room contained one bed, one cracked basin, and a patron crystal hidden behind the old wardrobe.

He placed his copied hand against the crystal, expecting the whisper that had guided him since Elian's death.

The voice answered before he asked a question, louder than any private thought.

"You have entered his old chapter," the Patron said, no longer whispering, "now learn how he survived it."
