Villain's Refund System: The Protagonist's Harem Is Mine
Chapter 120 The Unwritten Court II
The corridor ended beneath the Academy, opening into a second Court where thirteen seats surrounded a table without a center.
The silver page floated above the table, holding every separate name that had entered through the Patron’s distributed errand this morning.
Sarn and her nine singers stood apart, while Cassen, Cael, Lucas, and the threadless student formed a loose line near the door.
Mara, Nix, and Veska stepped forward together, because three empty seats had turned toward them before the Court spoke aloud.
The Patron’s Proxy waited behind the table, its cracked mask carrying a thin gold line that disappeared into the unfinished ceiling.
Riven felt the private gray open behind his sight, separating the Court’s pressure from every face, weapon, and chosen name.
[ Unwritten Court: final ownership test ]
The Proxy raised one cracked hand, and the table filled with three pools of light beneath the empty seats nearby.
"The Court offers three necessary roles," it said, while the gold line above the table tightened toward the household.
Cassen lifted Giltknife and asked, "Necessary for whom?" while keeping the blade away from the waiting lights.
"For the story that survives when people refuse to carry its ending," the Proxy answered, and the first pool opened.
The chamber changed around Mara, becoming a white infirmary where every bed held a wounded stranger beneath a golden bell.
The private gray sharpened around the first pool, showing a bright line that named Mara the merciful heroine of every room.
[ Claim Event: Mara’s mercy ]
[ Proposed role: healer who answers every wound ]
Mara approached the nearest bed, but the wounded stranger turned away and covered the injury with both arms in silence.
Mara stopped, lowering Quiet Teeth instead of forcing the offered healing into a person who had refused her help completely.
"Help is not holy when it ignores the person being helped," Mara said, while the golden bell waited above her.
Mara opened a cabinet, removed bandages, and placed them beside every bed before stepping away from the central bell nearby.
"The choice to accept care belongs to the person who carries the wound," she said, while the beds became ordinary stone.
The gold line around her hands cracked, and the first pool of light collapsed without assigning her a heroic title.
The Proxy turned toward her. "You left suffering unanswered," it said, while the first empty seat lost its golden edge.
"I left a person free to decide what answer belongs to them," Mara replied, and the infirmary vanished behind her.
The second pool opened beneath Nix, transforming the chamber into a tower of doors with locks facing inward at once.
The private gray sharpened around the second pool, showing a title that named Nix keeper of every exit and owner of every escape.
[ Claim Event: Nix’s keys ]
[ Proposed role: keeper who controls every route ]
Nix opened the first door and found a city safe behind walls she had locked from the inside without witnesses.
She opened the second and found a family waiting outside, unable to enter because every key answered only to her hand.
The Proxy pointed toward the tower. "Choose control, and no door will open without your permission," it said.
Nix examined the keys, then placed them on the floor between the doors rather than gathering them into her coat.
"An exit is not a promise that I will approve the person who uses it," she said, while the inward locks began turning.
She opened every door at once, including the doors leading toward the Court’s unfinished rooms and the dark beyond the table.
Nix cut the central lock with her chain-blades, then left the broken lock beside the keys for anyone to choose.
The gold line around her wrists split, and the second pool collapsed without making her keeper of another person’s freedom.
"You have made escape ordinary," the Proxy said, while the door tower folded into the table’s empty center.
"Ordinary is what escape should become after people learn the route," Nix answered, and the second light disappeared.
The third pool opened under Veska, flooding the Court with river water that rose around a spear made of old bone.
The private gray sharpened around the third pool, showing a title that named Veska the last warden and required her sacrifice.
[ Claim Event: Veska’s last ward ]
[ Proposed role: inherited guardian who becomes the border ]
Veska touched the bone spear, and the Court showed her five generations holding the same weapon beside the same closed seam.
Veska lifted Bell Without a Tongue, but she did not ring it for the ancestors waiting beneath the water nearby.
"A border is useful when people can cross it," Veska said, while the flood pressed against her boots.
She planted her own spear beside the bone weapon, then opened the sealed border and let the water pass around both.
The water divided into separate channels, carrying each ancestor’s voice toward a different door instead of one inherited command below.
The gold line around Veska’s bell cracked, and the third pool collapsed without naming her the final guardian ever again.
"You have permitted the flood to choose its own channels," the Proxy said, while the last water drained through the floor.
"I permitted people to decide whether the channel is a road or a wall," Veska answered, and the river vanished.
The three pools went dark, but the gold line above the table tightened until every seat pointed toward Riven in silence.
Sarn raised one hand, and her nine singers spoke their chosen names separately before the Court could make one supporting chorus.
Cael opened his hand, and the coin landed on its edge against the table while four red debt knots pulled toward the gold line.
The nearest unfinished action tried to make Cael’s luck complete the Court’s ownership, but he stopped the coin with two fingers.
"No borrowed chance for this," Cael said, while the red knots remained attached to his chosen wrist.
Lucas stepped beside the silver page, keeping his old token beneath his shirt and his chosen name outside the Court’s count.
The threadless student drew a circle around the page, leaving the circle open toward every name that had entered the corridor.
Cassen stepped toward the table, and a golden crown appeared above his head without touching his hair or becoming a physical object.
The Proxy turned its cracked mask toward him. "One crown can preserve the Court’s ending if you accept the first seat," it said.
Cassen looked at Mara, Nix, Veska, and the separate singers before placing Giltknife across the broken crown’s path without bowing.
"A crown that needs one person to carry everyone is already a chain," he said, and the golden crown fell apart.
The first crack appeared in the gold line above the table, running from Cassen’s refusal toward the unfinished ceiling overhead.
Riven drew Overdue, feeling the blade answer the first crack while the private gray opened wider behind his sight in silence.
[ Three Claim Events: rejected by chosen owners ]
The Proxy stepped toward Riven, and its cracked mask opened to reveal a darkness filled with all the endings the Court had withheld.
"The Patron requests that you place the page on the table," it said, while the silver page drifted toward Riven’s hand.
Riven caught the page without touching its blank surface, then returned it to Lucas before the Court could name a carrier.
"The page belongs to the people who refuse its ending," Riven said, while the Proxy’s darkness pulled at the table.
The Court answered with a deep crack, and the table’s three empty sections collapsed into a reconstructed cathedral beneath the chamber.
The Patron’s Proxy climbed the central altar, while the silver page remained between Lucas and the threadless student’s open circle.
"The ending needs a witness," the Proxy said, and the cathedral doors began closing around every person in the Court.
Sarn ordered the Choir apart, and the nine singers moved through different doors while speaking names that refused the shared rhythm.
Nix opened three exits, but the cathedral rebuilt one wall each time she left a route unattended behind the moving group.
Mara struck the nearest wall with Quiet Teeth, storing the impact while the cathedral tried to turn her rescue into another title.
Veska carried the silver page’s corner, guiding Lucas through a passage where water rose beneath the broken altar around them.
Cael flipped the coin once, and it landed on its edge against a falling bell before he caught it with his palm.
The debt tightened around his wrist, but Cael chose to hold the bell’s rope until another student reached the open door.
One red knot faded, and the remaining knots loosened while the falling bell struck the floor without crushing anyone beneath the cathedral roof.
Cassen cut a golden route above the nave, revealing a black seam that crossed the cathedral from altar to ceiling.
The first crack widened, and the Gilded Line showed its interior as a web of assigned endings rather than a solid road.
[ Gilded Line stability: failing ]
[ Refund multiplier: x10 ]
[ Recovered value: unreadable ]
The cathedral groaned, and the Proxy reached for the silver page while the black seam widened above the altar again.
Lucas held the page to his chest, and the threadless student kept the open circle between him and the reaching mask.
"The page does not need to finish me," Lucas said, while the Court’s doors began losing their golden hinges.
Mara released Quiet Teeth’s stored impact into the cathedral wall, opening a passage while keeping the weapon’s force from the students.
Nix opened the passage wider, and Veska pulled the page through before the water could close around Lucas’s knees quickly.
Riven stepped beneath the altar, where the black seam crossed the floor and the Court’s remaining ownership gathered in one place.
He cut the seam with Overdue, and the blade answered with a force that drove him backward against the altar stones.
The cathedral shook, while the private gray filled his sight with one final condition beneath the failing ownership lines alone.
[ Three Claim Events rejected. ]
[ Gilded Line stability: failing. ]
[ Refund multiplier: x10 ]
[ Recovered value: unreadable ]
[ New condition detected: Riven was not supposed to survive Chapter One. ]
Riven tried to stand, but his knees failed beneath the altar, and the cathedral’s reconstructed roof began collapsing into the nave.
Mara caught Overdue before the blade struck the water, holding it across her shoulder while the hilt cooled in her hand.
Nix sat on the broken altar, keeping one open door beneath the stones while the Court folded around the escaping witnesses.
Veska lifted Riven against her back, carrying him through the shallow water while Bell Without a Tongue rang once above them.
Cassen looked upward and saw the first crack running beyond the cathedral, through the gold line that had owned the Academy’s story.
"The sky has a crack," Cassen said, while the broken Court opened toward a morning no route had prepared.
Sarn led the nine singers through separate doors, and each voice remained distinct while the cathedral lost its central roof.
Riven looked at the collapsing ceiling and asked, "Is there a customer-support number for this?" while Veska carried him.
The Court went dark, and only Riven heard the sky answer, "Request received," before the broken cathedral vanished behind them.
The Academy morning returned around the household, carrying wet names, separate voices, and a crack no instructor could seal yet.
Mara kept Overdue across her shoulder, Nix guarded the open door, and Veska lowered Riven beside the seven low walls.
Cassen watched the first golden fracture fade above the Academy, while the private gray closed behind Riven’s sight without sharing its final condition.
[ Court ending: lost ]
[ Patron’s errand: unresolved by design ]
[ Household: eight willing, nine Choir witnesses ]
[ Core Resonance: 1,100,000 / 10,000,000 ]
