Morning covered Mina’s workbench in poison reports, trial ledgers and one tournament bracket nobody had invited into the audit.

Damien sat beside her wearing yesterday’s formal shirt, ’first human kill followed by paperwork, damn, guilt apparently receives no recovery day.’

Bram placed the final expense tablet between three sealed evidence cases while avoiding the living Benefactor fragment near Mina’s elbow.

"The poisoning reward settled at eight thousand SP, and Verdict tempering requires another forty-five hundred," he said, enlarging both lines for inspection.

"Authorize the tempering before another Correction tries divorcing me from Mother’s saber," Damien replied, pressing one thumb against his tired eye.

"Your description remains mechanically offensive," Mina said, accepting the expense through her workshop seal, "though the priority is correct."

[Verdict tempering funded]

[SP: 29,880 → 25,080]

Gold tally marks brightened inside the heating cradle while Mina adjusted blue flame around the weapon’s spine.

’Twenty-five thousand remains, enough for tournament survival, provided the shop stops unlocking irresistible nonsense.’

Bram opened the movement ledger and placed every inheritance gain beside its previous value.

[Inheritance settlement complete]

[EXP gained: 1,610,000]

[Actual level: 380 → 405]

[Public registered level: 380]

[Ascension Board: 41]

[Divergence: 31%]

"Your public measure remains intentionally stale until another sanctioned registry event," he said, checking the academy posting beneath the ledger.

"Good, Lucas can prepare for three hundred eighty while meeting whatever survived forty-five family disasters," Damien replied, watching tournament seeds rearrange.

"Yeah, except half the campus already assumes your registry lies," Mina said, scraping black residue from Verdict into a narrow tube.

’She is right, mystery helped earlier, though every public win teaches enemies where to cut next.’

The four evidence maps showed Benefactor residue touching House Ashe, Marlowe security, Hallow’s construct and Cassius’s hidden chamber.

No route identified a person behind the marks, since every black line disappeared before reaching any stable face.

"We can prove one network crossed four houses without proving who controls it," Bram said, rubbing his red collar mark from last night.

"Then Isolde receives the parts her family can verify while Vivienne gets Elowen’s route separately," Damien replied, sealing two packets.

"Separately prevents either house from burying the other’s evidence," Mina said, replacing his wax seals with keyed copper locks, "use these instead."

Isolde accepted her packet through a secure mirror call and read the garden statement without commenting on its final paragraph.

"My uncle will discover which guard entered after the escape signal," she said, placing the file inside a poison safe, "his cooperation can remain voluntary initially."

"Oh, initially sounds extremely reassuring for everyone except your unfortunate uncle," Damien replied, signing the transfer record through one finger.

"Reassurance would weaken the incentive structure," she answered, then looked beyond him toward Mina’s tempering cradle, "keep Verdict close during the tournament."

’She is worried and translated it into asset management, yeah, that sounds exactly like Isolde.’

Vivienne’s reply arrived through one written line rather than a mirror connection.

[Lady Elowen confirms the evidence. I will not discuss the garden.]

Damien read it twice, then closed the message before shame could turn silence into something easier than her actual words.

’She thanked me and drew a boundary, respect it, you idiot, explanations would only ask her to comfort my choice.’

Bram left with both transfer receipts once Mina threatened to weld his vibrating tournament tablet shut.

The workshop door locked behind him, leaving blue flame around Verdict and rain tapping the high windows.

Mina removed her gloves and studied Damien’s face across the workbench longer than any injury scan required.

"You have been awake since the reception and keep touching your right palm," she said, closing the ledger between them, "tell me why."

"The assassin stopped moving under that hand," Damien replied, looking toward fingers that carried no visible mark, "part of me feels relieved."

"Relief means he cannot poison another person," she said, walking around the bench until both knees touched his chair, "it does not erase the choice."

"Guilt would feel cleaner if I regretted stopping that assassin more than killing him," Damien replied, forcing the ugly truth into the room.

Mina placed his hand against her waist instead of offering an answer that could make everything simple.

"I trust the man telling me this instead of pretending the corpse fixed him," she said, resting her forehead against his, "stay honest here."

’She did not forgive anything or pull away, damn, this might be the only response I can actually believe.’

Damien kissed her slowly while the heating cradle dimmed behind them and rain covered its final cooling hiss.

Mina answered by pulling his chair closer until his knees pressed between both legs beneath her open workshop coat.

"Before your brain invents another contract, tonight follows my rules again," she said, catching his lower lip between her teeth.

"Your rules saved my life more often than Sterling tradition ever managed," he replied, sliding both hands around her hips.

"First, no system panels get attention until morning," she said, moving one hand beneath his formal collar, "second, you stop if yesterday returns badly."

"Agreed, and you tell me whenever anything stops feeling right," Damien replied, opening her coat only after she guided his fingers toward its clasp.

Mina kissed him harder, then pushed the reports away until three tablets nearly fell from the crowded bench.

’She wants me here after seeing every ugly line in that report, for real, do not hide inside another joke.’

"I want you," he said, letting the plain admission remain between their mouths, "and I feel scared that wanting anything becomes another target."

"Then we make the target regret approaching my workshop," Mina replied, pulling his shirt free, "fear can stay without controlling tonight."

The old scar beneath his ribs drew her fingers before she traced newer Bloodright bruises across his chest.

She checked each healing line through touch, then kissed the one near his sternum after his breathing stayed even.

Damien lifted her onto the workbench while Mina wrapped both legs around him and removed her own coat without breaking contact.

’Second time should feel easier, nope, she still makes every useful thought abandon the building.’

Her black hair came loose from its rough knot when his fingers found the pins, spilling warm curls across both shoulders.

"You remembered how those work without breaking expensive equipment," she murmured, opening another button beneath his hand.

"Your hairpins threatened my eyes during the first practical lesson," Damien replied, kissing the soot mark near her collarbone.

"Keep talking nonsense and this examination becomes considerably harder," Mina said, though her laugh broke against his mouth.

The cot waited nearby, but she kept him against the bench while choosing every change in pace through hands and blunt instructions.

Damien followed without turning her reactions into another problem to solve, letting pleasure remain messy between laughter and uncertain breath.

’No death flag and nothing needs proving, just Mina holding me closer, damn, let that be enough.’

She pulled him toward the cot only after the metal bench became uncomfortable against both knees.

Clothing marked their route across the floor while workshop fans moved cool air over bare skin beneath amber lamps.

Mina stopped once when Damien’s right hand tensed against the mattress, keeping her weight still above him without withdrawing.

"Yesterday returned, so tell me whether we pause or change something," she said, covering his hand with her own.

"Change it," Damien replied, turning that palm against her heartbeat, "I need to feel somebody alive beneath it."

Her expression softened before she guided him closer and held his gaze until the garden fountain left his head.

’Alive, warm and swearing at me, good, stay inside this room instead of following a dead man backward.’

Time passed through slow movement, whispered corrections and one broken cot complaint Mina blamed entirely on inherited Sterling weight.

Later, she lay beside Damien with one bare leg across his thigh while rainwater moved down the workshop windows.

"Your workshop access changes again after everything we shared tonight," Mina said, placing a second copper key beside the amber one on his chest, "this piece opens my private archive."

"That sounds considerably more intimate than seeing you naked twice already," Damien replied, lifting the smaller key beneath uncertain fingers.

"It is," she answered, suddenly serious, "my research history stays there, including failures nobody else gets to inspect."

’She handed me the room containing everything she hides, shit, say something worthy without making it polished.’

"I will ask before opening personal records even when the key permits access," he said, closing his palm around it, "trust needs room to remain yours."

"Good answer," Mina replied, kissing his shoulder before settling back, "ruin that policy and I remove useful body parts."

The Fate Bond panel appeared above their abandoned clothes while her fingers stayed linked through his.

[Fate Bond]

[Mina Park]

[First entry recorded]

[State: Unanchored by mutual choice]

[Trust access expanded]

Damien dismissed it while holding her hand, ’the system recorded us without claiming ownership, good, keep learning boundaries.’

Morning alarms woke both of them when the tournament bracket finished its final sponsor adjustment.

[Movement III complete]

[Public registered level: 230 → 380]

[System Points: 18,880 → 25,080]

[Debt held: 0 → 1,015]

[Divergence: 25% → 31%]

[Weapon: Verdict]

[Verdict seal: First released]

[Fate Bond: Mina Park, unanchored]

The bracket placed Damien through five matches before Lucas’s protected semifinal route met him from the opposite side.

Rhea posted beneath the public display before either man acknowledged their scheduled collision.

[Whoever reaches that semifinal owes me a real match afterward. Do not arrive broken enough to waste my morning.]

’Lucas first and Rhea afterward, damn, Halcrest solved recovery time by pretending it never existed.’

Damien dressed beside Mina, fastened both workshop keys beneath his collar and headed toward tournament seeding with Verdict tempered at his hip.
