Joren’s split spear opened before the bell finished ringing, sending both blades toward Damien from opposite sides.

Flicker carried him between their crossing points while Verdict remained low enough to hide its intended angle.

’Reckoning stays hidden along with any easy release, good, make Lucas pay for telemetry that teaches him absolutely nothing useful.’

Damien cut the left spear binding through Threadcut, then stepped away before Joren could trap Verdict inside its folding shaft.

The crowd groaned when no silver-black payout followed, which made his opponent smile beneath the blue helmet.

"Your famous Ledger must be completely empty after surviving that Bloodright," Joren said, spinning both damaged halves around one reinforced wrist.

"Believing sponsor commentary during your own fight feels surprisingly brave," Damien replied, shifting toward the arena boundary.

Joren pursued through three rapid thrusts while broadcast panels measured Damien’s retreat as lost ground.

Each missed point struck the same section of floor, carving a triangular trap around his left boot.

’He wants me fixed inside that triangle before the shaft closes, damn, decent plan for somebody reading purchased instructions.’

Damien let the fourth thrust enter his coat, turning enough for its blade to scrape Iron Veil above skin.

Joren snapped both spear halves together behind his back, locking the split weapon around Damien’s waist.

Commentators shouted for Reckoning while Lucas watched from the sponsor balcony with one hand beneath his chin.

Damien activated Gutter Style instead, stamping Joren’s forward foot before driving his forehead into the blue helmet.

The impact hurt both men, though surprise loosened the spear lock long enough for Damien to drop beneath its shaft.

"Your expensive counter forgot opponents can fight badly on purpose," he said, striking Joren’s throat guard through Verdict’s pommel.

’Aim the joke outward, keep pressure close, and do not let him reset that ridiculous weapon.’

Joren stumbled toward center while Damien followed inside the spear’s safe range using short elbows and low kicks.

Verdict stayed sheathed across his forearm, turning each desperate shaft strike without displaying Silverlight Draw.

The showcase fighter abandoned form and punched toward Damien’s injured sternum where tournament records marked fresh Bloodright damage.

Stay of Execution caught the hit before pain landed, but Damien left every stored point hidden rather than releasing it.

[Damage deferred: 60%]

[Private Debt hold active]

He caught Joren’s punching wrist, turned beneath the elbow, then used the larger man’s momentum to throw him over one hip.

Blue armor struck the boundary while Verdict left its sheath and stopped below the exposed chin.

[Ring-out victory]

The crowd became quiet before applause started from students who understood exactly what he had withheld.

’They expected fireworks and got basic humiliation, Restraint really does sting when everybody paid for spectacle.’

Joren removed his helmet beside the boundary, revealing wet blond hair around a broad face flushed through embarrassment.

"You carried enough Debt to finish me from the opening exchange," he said, looking toward the silent sponsor balcony.

"Yeah, which makes your employer’s requested release considerably more expensive than the match," Damien replied, offering one hand upward.

Joren accepted it after a pause and stood while boos moved toward the commentary desk rather than either fighter.

"He demonstrated exceptional combat discipline by conserving such a limited resource," the lead commentator announced, recovering through a confident voice.

"They gave the correct result through the wrong explanation," Mina said inside Damien’s receiver, "let them underestimate capacity."

’Limited resource, good, Lucas can build tomorrow around a ceiling that exists only in their purchased story.’

Damien left the arena before officials could request a post-match skill demonstration beside sponsor banners.

Bram waited inside recovery wearing three medical timers around one wrist and panic across his narrow face.

"Your next call begins in eleven minutes, while deferred damage returns after four," he said, placing restorative gel beneath Damien’s formal bandage.

"Schedule the pain between hydration and corrupt seeding complaints," Damien replied, sitting while Stay released across his sternum.

Mina pressed a scanner against the bruise and watched its color deepen without offering sympathy.

"You held one hundred ninety-nine Debt during that entire bout," she said, lowering her voice near passing officials, "why hide the current cap?"

"Lucas’s camp bought our private telemetry before the first fight ended," Damien replied, pointing toward a tiny golden lens above the recovery door.

The lens vanished when Mina threw a screwdriver through its crystal center without leaving her chair.

"They could have purchased my professional feed instead of stealing the cheap angle," she said, collecting its memory shard.

’She destroyed their camera and became offended by production quality, damn, never change.’

Her portable reader opened the stolen transmission route, showing Lucas’s analysts purchasing every movement from Joren’s match.

Three men tagged Damien’s retreat angles, Stay timing and apparent refusal to release above an estimated two hundred Debt.

"They think your safe hold stops at two hundred," Mina said, altering one metadata line before forwarding the feed, "I can make that belief useful."

"Send them a recovery pulse showing Ledger instability after prolonged restraint," Damien replied, rolling his shoulder beneath the scanner.

"That lie needs three staged fluctuations and one convincing mana drop," she answered, smiling when the reader accepted her false values, "done."

Bram looked between them while sealing the healing gel under a fresh wrap.

"Should ordinary tournament recovery involve considerably less counterintelligence than this?" he asked, checking the corridor for another lens.

"Your mistake is expecting Halcrest to separate athletics from wealthy sabotage," Damien replied, fastening his coat before the next timer sounded.

’Second round begins before my ribs settle, fine, every extra match becomes another fake lesson for Lucas.’

Vessa Moor attacked using weighted chains designed to punish Flicker destinations, so Damien walked through her first pattern without activating it.

He cut each floor anchor using Threadcut, trapped one chain beneath Verdict’s sheath, then won through another boundary throw.

[Round two victory]

Pell Duran entered the elimination round carrying mirrored shields that reflected Sinner’s Brand toward its caster.

Damien never opened the Brand, using Silverlight Draw against shield hinges until both heavy plates locked around Pell’s arms.

Three clean wins pushed public excitement higher precisely since the expected signature skill never appeared.

Lucas’s analysts purchased every feed while Mina inserted different false instabilities through each recovery interval.

’They are paying to learn I have three contradictory weaknesses, good, professional scouting deserves premium confusion.’

At the final medical station, tournament staff posted Damien’s quarterfinal against Niko Venn exactly where his prediction remained sealed.

The card drew another crowd when all five names matched the official route without a single correction.

Corven ordered sponsor staff to remove it, but students had already copied the complete bracket across campus channels.

"Your reckless public stunt compromises every registered opponent’s protected privacy," the deputy marshal said, approaching Damien while cameras gathered behind him.

"Privacy arrived after your office sold my heartbeat to Lucas’s analysts," Damien replied, displaying the destroyed golden lens.

The official recognized its sponsor serial and stopped close enough for only nearby microphones to catch his answer.

"Unauthorized recording allegations require a formal review after complete tournament resolution," he said, reaching for the broken shard.

"Then review can begin after Mina finishes copying everything inside it," Damien replied, closing his fingers before Corven touched the evidence.

Mina held up her reader from the recovery bench, where Lucas’s purchase receipt remained visible above its route map.

"Please dispute the serial number while twelve campus channels zoom closer," she said, enlarging the Arden crest beneath its payment line.

Corven walked away while student laughter followed every sponsor pin across his navy collar.

’Face slap delivered through receipt, beautiful, Mina fixes problems while insulting the entire institution.’

The quarterfinal notice vanished from Damien’s tablet before Niko Venn entered tomorrow’s confirmation queue.

A replacement name appeared without any house crest, academy history or prior duel record.

[Quarterfinal opponent updated]

[Soren Null]

[Transfer status: Immediate]

[Combat records: Unavailable]

Bram refreshed the registry six times while Mina searched external academies through the stolen sponsor route.

"No student can transfer into an active bracket after seeding closes," Bram said, voice climbing as every search returned blank.

"This one did and replaced the exact opponent predicted publicly," Damien replied, reading black residue behind the new name.

’The Benefactor saw us poison Lucas’s scouting data, fine, tomorrow reveals whether its new plant swallowed the bait too.’

He closed the bracket and carried his unreleased Debt out of the arena.
