Villain's Refund System: The Protagonist's Harem Is Mine
Chapter 49 The Transfer
Damien’s right step carried him outside Soren’s first closing pattern before the segmented staff finished locking left.
Surprise reached the transfer’s colorless eyes, though his wrists recovered quickly enough to swing the lower section across Damien’s knees.
’He expected the fake route immediately, good, make him spend every counter before revealing what actually works.’
Damien jumped rather than Flickered, letting the staff pass beneath both boots before Verdict struck its central joint.
Soren rotated the weapon through their contact and opened a hidden blade toward Damien’s delayed Iron Veil timing.
The barrier appeared early, catching its point while Mina laughed inside the receiver near his collar.
"He attacked yesterday’s fabricated telemetry down to the exact millisecond," she said, recording the failed counter through three independent feeds.
"Your professional customer service may desperately need a working refund policy," Damien replied, driving his elbow into Soren’s jaw over the trapped blade.
The transfer absorbed it without blinking and collapsed his staff around Verdict’s sheath before stepping into close range.
’Military conditioning and no emotional reaction, damn, somebody trained him to become a message instead of a student.’
Soren struck three nerve points beneath Damien’s ribs while the segmented weapon held Verdict against his hip.
[Flesh Debt: 67]
He expected the wide Silverlight angle sold during both sessions and placed one shoulder beneath its safe opening.
Damien left Verdict trapped, grabbed the man’s fresh jacket seam and headbutted his mouth through Gutter Style.
Blood crossed Soren’s pale lip before Damien stamped his instep and pulled both bodies into the arena wall.
"Your purchased pattern forgot I learned to fight in alleys before inheriting a pretty saber," he said, twisting the trapped sheath free.
"Fabricated personal history does not change any measurable combat habits," Soren replied, wiping his mouth without looking toward the blood.
"Nah, measurable habits become bait when professionals pay too eagerly," Damien answered, cutting the staff’s first joint through Threadcut.
’He knows the history is fabricated, fuck, the Benefactor told him more than Lucas’s telemetry contained.’
The broken segment released black powder around their feet, turning every nearby Flicker destination into a visible silver outline.
Soren attacked Damien’s real landing route before the skill activated, forcing him to cancel and take one blade across the shoulder.
[Flesh Debt: 141]
Commentators shouted that the transfer had solved Flicker while Lucas’s analysts marked their first correct prediction.
Damien slid beneath the next staff section using ordinary footwork and cut Soren’s thigh without activating any recorded skill.
The transfer changed grip, exposing a small black hook beneath his right glove when pain tightened that hand.
’There is the mark, do not stare, keep him believing the plan still works.’
Damien repeated the fake low draw, letting Soren catch Verdict exactly where his purchased model promised.
Three staff joints folded around the saber and pulled it beyond his reach while the transfer stepped toward the apparent left landing route.
Damien triggered Flicker behind him instead, using the real half-beat delay Mina had removed from every public file.
Iron Pulse hardened his fist before it entered Soren’s kidney and folded the compact fighter across his segmented staff.
"The authentic movement timing costs considerably extra for infiltrators," Damien said, catching Verdict through its recall wire while the crowd rose.
Soren turned during the pull and sacrificed one shoulder to trap the saber beneath his arm.
Black residue spread from his glove onto Verdict, trying to freeze its golden tally before another cut.
Damien released no Reckoning, choosing Threadcut against the glove binding until the Benefactor’s hook split beneath the leather.
[Foreign combat directive severed]
Soren screamed for the first time and attacked without any purchased rhythm, swinging broken staff sections through raw panic.
’The mark controlled which counters he trusted, good, fear reveals the fighter underneath, and that man is running out of answers.’
Damien entered close again, blocking one joint through his forearm before Gutter Style drove a knee into Soren’s stomach.
The transfer bent forward while Verdict’s pommel struck behind his ear and dropped him onto both hands.
He tried reaching for the broken hook near his glove, but Damien pinned that wrist beneath one boot.
"Who sent you into an active tournament bracket without any records?" Damien asked, holding Verdict above the man’s shoulder for every camera.
"Someone who watched your false sessions before Lucas purchased them," Soren replied, laughing through blood against the floor.
"That useless answer identifies convenient timing instead of an actual person," Damien said, pressing his boot harder until fingers opened.
"A person would comfort you," Soren answered, turning one colorless eye upward, "he says your ledger has an end."
’He knows the name but maybe not the system, damn, react like this means capacity and nothing deeper.’
Damien drove Verdict through the arena beside Soren’s hand, severing every remaining staff segment without touching skin.
"Everything has an ending, including your painfully expensive academy infiltration today," he said, pulling the transfer upright by his torn jacket.
Soren attempted a final head strike, so Damien turned and threw him across the boundary using the same Gutter Style hip motion from round one.
[Quarterfinal victory]
[Opponent defeated without Reckoning]
[Scouting trap confirmed]
The arena erupted while commentary screens replayed every moment Soren countered a technique Damien never actually used.
One analyst circled the transfer’s weapon configuration and matched it against leaked telemetry clips from both staged sessions.
"The quarterfinal challenger appears specifically trained around deliberately fraudulent combat data," she said, dropping sponsor confidence estimates across the broadcast.
"Fraudulent sounds harsh when Mina worked carefully on every frame," Damien replied, offering her camera a tired smile.
Lucas’s analysts closed their purchased model as student channels identified identical tags inside Soren’s counter sequence.
The sponsor shell that received their package vanished from the market before tournament officials could freeze its account.
Students near the western rail began chanting Mina’s workshop name after her forged telemetry appeared beside Soren’s useless counters.
Damien pointed Verdict toward her recovery station instead of accepting their praise alone, making every broadcast camera follow his gesture.
’She built the lie and deserves the applause, damn, sharing credit feels better when it visibly annoys sponsor executives.’
’Plant lost publicly and the data position burned with him, good, let every scout wonder which Damien they actually bought.’
Mina met Damien at the tunnel carrying two saved feeds and satisfaction bright enough to ignore his bleeding shoulder.
"They copied my fake timing into a custom weapon overnight," she said, pushing one replay beneath his face, "professional humiliation should pay royalties."
"The credit belongs entirely to you on every public data release," Damien replied, signing her workshop mark across the evidence package.
"Keep saying useful things and I may reduce one recovery fee," she answered, sealing gel over his wound with unnecessary pressure.
Bram arrived beside them after chasing the disappearing sponsor through eleven shell registries.
"The final shell account closed from somewhere inside tournament administration," he said, showing Corven’s office key beside its last transaction.
"Our deputy marshal keeps appearing near every random disaster," Damien replied, watching the official argue with reporters outside.
"Corven authorized administrative access without personally originating the concealed sponsor shell," Bram explained, enlarging a black mark hidden beneath the signature.
’Another willing door or frightened employee, the Benefactor keeps borrowing institutions until blame has nowhere clean to land.’
The system remained silent through the victory reward, posting no quest or correction notice after a marked opponent fell.
Damien waited until medical staff removed the last weapon splinter from his shoulder before dismissing the empty display.
A small line appeared in the corner of his vision without any panel opening around it.
[Do not answer what he wants you to fear.]
’That is new, system, did you just warn me without being asked?’
No response followed, leaving the sentence near his sight while the semifinal bracket locked Damien against Lucas.
