Chapter 493 - 492- Inhuman race (2)

When they were about one hundred meters away from each other, the old man suddenly came to a halt in midair. The young girl who had been enveloped by him and transformed into a bright arc of light also slowed down before finally stopping.

Her eyes were blank and listless, devoid of their previous liveliness. Several scratches and injuries covered her body, some of them still faintly bleeding. Her clothes were also torn in several places, revealing the severity of whatever battle they had just escaped from.

However, the most peculiar thing Grey noticed was the severed hand that the girl held tightly in her grip.

The hand clearly belonged to a corpse. Its skin had already turned pale and lifeless, yet the girl continued to clutch it with such force that her fingers had almost sunk into the cold flesh.

A thought immediately crossed Grey’s mind.

These people had encountered an attack.

They had most likely been forced to flee from their previous location after suffering some kind of sudden calamity. The grief and suppressed emotions visible in their eyes, combined with the severed hand in the girl’s grasp, made it obvious that someone who had been traveling with them had died.

Perhaps someone extremely important to them.

However, this had nothing to do with Grey.

After confirming that the two people were not actually pursuing them or preparing to launch an attack, Grey slowly retreated and changed his direction. He had no intention of getting involved in whatever trouble they had encountered.

There was no reason for him to fight people who had not provoked him.

Iria also noticed the heavy tension written across their faces. She remained silent and closely followed behind Grey.

The atmosphere between the two groups was strange.

Neither side spoke.

Neither side made a hostile move.

They simply passed each other in the vast sky.

However, just as Grey and Iria were about to completely pass them, Iria suddenly noticed something peculiar.

Both the old man and the young girl had horns growing from their heads.

Her eyes narrowed slightly as she immediately identified them as non-humans.

At almost the same moment, the old man sniffed the air.

His expression changed.

His eyes narrowed as he carefully sensed the scent drifting toward him. He had initially assumed that Grey and Iria belonged to another alien race, especially since neither of them possessed the horns characteristic of his own people.

But after carefully examining their scent, he realized something else.

They were humans.

His eyes instantly turned bloodshot.

A murderous intent instinctively surged through his body, and for a brief moment, his muscles tensed as he prepared to attack.

Humans.

The word alone was enough to stir the hatred buried deep within him.

However, just as he was about to make a move, his gaze fell upon the young girl standing beside him.

Her injuries.

Her empty expression.

The severed hand she refused to let go of.

The old man’s expression slowly changed.

He remembered what the girl had just gone through and the person she had lost. He did not want her to experience any more fighting, especially not immediately after escaping from the calamity that had already taken someone dear to her.

His clenched fists slowly loosened.

The bloodlust in his eyes gradually faded.

In the end, the old man allowed Grey and Iria to pass without making a move.

Neither Grey nor Iria looked back.

They continued forward, maintaining their distance from the two non-humans.

Only after they had traveled more than two hundred meters away did Grey finally erupt with speed. His figure transformed into a streak of light as he accelerated into the distance.

Behind him, the old man also resumed his journey, continuing in the opposite direction.

For a while, neither side knew what the other was thinking.

"Elder..."

The young girl’s voice suddenly broke the silence.

"Those people don’t have horns. Moreover, they have a strange scent. Do you think they are a species closely related to humans?"

Her voice was strangely blank.

She did not even turn her head to look at the elder.

The old man with white hair seemed to pause in midair.

He remained silent for a few moments before letting out a deep sigh.

"No..."

His voice was low.

"They are humans."

The young girl’s body suddenly froze.

She clearly had not expected that answer.

Her fingers tightened around the severed hand in her grasp.

For a moment, she simply stood there in silence.

Then, her eyes gradually turned red.

Tears began to stream down her cheeks.

The old man did not say anything.

He merely turned around, intending to continue their journey.

But before he could take another step, the young girl spoke softly behind him.

"I want them to die."

The old man’s body stiffened.

For the first time since their escape, an expression of genuine surprise appeared on his weathered face.

He slowly turned his head.

"You want them to die?"

Even he had not expected such a response.

The young girl lowered her head slightly.

"I hate humans."

She did not explain further.

She simply continued forward.

The layer of light that had previously enveloped her body, protecting her from the harsh surroundings, was no longer present. Yet she seemed completely unconcerned by it.

Her eyes remained red.

Hatred and fury burned within them.

But that hatred was not directed toward the old man beside her.

Nor was it truly directed at Grey and Iria, who had already disappeared into the distance.

Her anger had emerged from grief.

Her brother—the person she had cared about more than anyone—had died right before her eyes because of a calamity that nobody had been able to foresee.

The loss had left a wound far deeper than the physical injuries covering her body.

And because she had never left the confines of her race before, she had never truly experienced the cruelty and unpredictability of the outside world.

She was an Inhuman subspecies.

She had grown up surrounded by her own people, protected from many of the dangers that existed beyond their territory. Humans had always been a distant concept to her, something she knew of but had never personally encountered.

Now, after witnessing the death of her brother, she instinctively sought something to blame.

Humans became an easy target for that hatred.

Yet Grey was clearly not responsible.

He had merely happened to travel in the same direction as them.

His clothes were damaged, and the expression on his face suggested that he had also experienced his fair share of trouble before encountering them. There was nothing about him that suggested he had anything to do with the calamity that had taken her brother’s life.

If Grey had been there to witness everything that had happened after he left, he would not have been completely surprised.

However, he would probably have been somewhat startled.

Fortunately, he was already far away when the young girl spoke those hateful words, her eyes burning with grief and fury.

Neither he nor Iria heard them.

After confirming that the old man and the young girl had no intention of launching a sneak attack against them, Grey finally relaxed his guard slightly.

He exhaled softly.

There was no point remaining tense when the danger had already passed.

Grey then focused his consciousness inward.

A familiar wave of spirit essence suddenly burst out from his chest.

The surrounding space trembled.

A massive figure gradually emerged from his sea of consciousness.

It was the Mosasaur.

Its enormous body materialized in the sky, its gigantic form immediately casting a vast shadow across the surrounding clouds. Scales shimmered beneath the faint light as its massive jaws opened.

A deep, powerful marine cry erupted from its mouth.

The sound reverberated through the heavens.

The Mosasaur then swam through the sky as though the vast expanse of air were an endless ocean.

Its enormous body quickly positioned itself beneath Grey.

Grey stepped onto its back without hesitation.

The moment his feet touched the Mosasaur, the enormous creature began moving forward.

Grey stood silently upon its back, his robes fluttering violently in the wind as the Mosasaur carried him deeper into the distance.

For the time being, the encounter with the two Inhumans was already behind him.

At least, that was what Grey believed.
