Waking Up To A Broken Engagement, I Instantly Turns Into A Mad Dog
Chapter 211: A Monumental Discovery
Chapter 211: Chapter 211: A Monumental Discovery
The midterm exams were set to take place in three days, and these three days were a holiday break.
Griffin was currently conducting research on medicinal essences at the research institute, so Jeremy was also quite free.
After informing his teammates, he returned to the dormitory.
The first thing he intended to do was plant the Ashbloom Flower on the balcony.
Although the likelihood of successfully cultivating it himself was very low, it would at least increase their chances by a fraction.
Furthermore, if he couldn’t get it to sprout, there were people at the research institute to assist with cultivation, so there was no need to worry too much.
As soon as he opened the balcony door, Jeremy caught a faint, lingering fragrance.
The magical irrigation device placed in the garden was set on a timer to provide water and magic power to the plants he had grown. Thus, even though he hadn’t visited for a year, the majority of the plants hadn’t withered at all.
The few pots of medicinal herbs in the outer row were still green, with only two plants in the dark corner having lost all their leaves. The soil in the pots had compacted into hard cakes, their surfaces sprouting a thin layer of moss.
But this gloomy fragrance... what was going on? He hadn’t planted anything like that.
Right... could it be the fragrance emitting from the seed Lucius had given him?
Thinking of this, after sowing the Ashbloom Flower seed, Jeremy stood up and walked over to inspect it.
Fortunately, not only had it not withered, but it had actually bloomed.
It possessed seven radiant colors, each petal sparkling like a precious gem.
The petals were hard and cold; touching them didn’t feel like touching a plant, but rather like touching a whetstone. Under the afternoon sun, each petal reflected a different color, shifting hues with just a slight turn.
Jeremy froze slightly.
According to recorded texts... this was the Immortal Flower, exclusive to the Lunaris clan.
Typically, this flower was given to someone cherished and cared for.
To put it in common terms, it was a gift exchanged between lovers.
The Immortal Flower, just as its name implied, would never wither. The jewel-like sparkling petals could be used as medicine or crafted into jewelry, possessing the ability to actively absorb magic power and detoxify. Rumor had it that before being plucked, it could even absorb the power of moonlight.
This flower had an extreme multitude of uses and was simultaneously incredibly rare. It was said that only the royal family of the Lunaris clan had the right to possess it.
If memory served right, back in their first year, he and Lucius weren’t even that close yet. That guy truly was generous.
Jeremy didn’t dwell too much on whether there was any other deeper meaning. Seeing that the surrounding area was already overgrown with weeds, he decisively planted the Immortal Flower and the Ashbloom Flower seed side by side.
Once everything was handled, he finally turned around and went into the bathroom to wash up.
What Jeremy hadn’t anticipated was that, precisely because of this action, the matters concerning the magical beasts took a massive turning point...
The afternoon of the next day.
Upon returning to the dormitory from the library, the first thing Jeremy did was observe the vitality of the Ashbloom Flower seed.
However, what astonished him was... the Ashbloom Flower seed, sown just yesterday, had actually grown to its mature form in a single night.
The stem had grown taller than a hand’s span, the leaves spread out into five tiers, and the roots had pierced through the bottom of the pot, embedding themselves directly into the balcony’s stone crevices.
It had now formed buds, only a single step away from blooming.
What on earth... was going on here?
This excessively rapid growth speed made Jeremy focus his entire mind on researching the cause.
He outright stayed up all night, directly diving into conducting experiments.
The balcony table was cleared off, replaced by twelve small earthen pots arranged in three rows. Each row represented a condition: with the Immortal Flower, without the Immortal Flower, and using only fallen petals. He recorded every change every two hours, including soil moisture and local magic power concentration.
Ultimately, he discovered that simply by planting the Immortal Flower and the Ashbloom Flower together, the Ashbloom Flower could absorb the immortal vitality radiating from the Immortal Flower. Not only did this accelerate its growth speed, but even its inherent toxins were completely eliminated.
If it were a regular Ashbloom Flower, it would only be a panacea when freshly blooming; at all other times, it carried a lethal toxin that killed upon contact.
But with the presence of the Immortal Flower, this drawback could be thoroughly eradicated.
It could be considered a genetic alteration.
He tried separating each element to isolate the cause. Merely watering it with water soaked in the petals: no effect. Placing the two pots a foot apart: the effect was reduced to one-third. Only when the two root systems touched within the same block of soil did the effect reach the level of the first night.
Thus, what was transmitted wasn’t medicinal properties, but vitality, and it only traveled through the roots.
But if they wanted to treat evolved magical beasts, they would probably still need to use the unaltered Ashbloom Flower, combining its inherent toxins with other ingredients to create a medicinal essence for it to exert a certain effect.
The fusion with the Immortal Flower seemed more suitable for saving people and healing wounds.
In the preliminary stage, Jeremy thought as much.
To test his hypothesis, he decisively applied to the academy for permission to go to the Wasteland himself.
To conduct research directly on magical beasts.
The permit was granted within half an hour. He brought along six captured two-star magical beasts, set up a barrier right at the rocky shore on the periphery, and began testing from the lowest dosage.
More than ten hours later, Jeremy discovered... the Ashbloom Flower, genetically altered by the Immortal Flower, actually possessed an incredibly potent evolutionary effect.
It could eliminate the mutated magic elements within low-tier magical beasts, reverting them back to their forms before mutation.
The first one took nearly two hours. Its spiked shell sloughed off in chunks, its skeleton shrank, and what ultimately remained within the barrier was merely a four-legged beast with gray fur, breathing very weakly, but still breathing.
The subsequent five consecutively yielded the same result. The fastest took an hour and ten minutes, the slowest nearly three hours. The commonality was that the fewer the mutated magic elements, the shorter the process, and none died during the reversal.
Jeremy recorded all the times, dosages, and weights of each creature, adding a line at the bottom of the page: efficacy is inversely proportional to star rank.
This discovery excited Jeremy so much he couldn’t sleep.
He sat within the barrier for a while longer, looking at the gray beast lying and panting by the edge of the rocks. It didn’t attack, nor did it flee; it only raised its eyes once before closing them again.
Although it was still unstable, as long as they researched in this direction, perhaps... those mutated magical beasts could truly attain a second life.
Mialans might once again welcome vitality, shedding the name of Wasteland.
And the Sylvanor continent might also no longer have to face the catastrophic invasion of ultimate magical beasts, truly reaching a genuine era of peace.
