Waking Up To A Broken Engagement, I Instantly Turns Into A Mad Dog
Chapter 217: The Human-Demon War
One month later, the Western border.
Jeremy’s group had been at the border for a month.
During this month, the Demon race’s offensive became increasingly fierce.
The Demon race, wanting to gain the upper hand, even didn’t hesitate to release the mutated and deformed creatures they had secretly cultivated.
These deformed magical beasts had no autonomous thought, and weren’t even normal creatures; they were all killing machines forcibly manipulated by the Demon race.
They knew no pain, knew no retreat, and would only stop when crushed to the last fragment.
A number of evil cults also joined the battlefield, utilized by the Demon race.
One of the Demon race’s Palace Masters also possessed the dark art of manipulating deceased wraiths, so even though the Human race had support from multiple sides, the current situation remained in a stalemate.
Every person who died on the battlefield would stand up on the other side by nightfall.
That was exactly the hardest part.
Combat Zone C.
Jeremy’s figure pierced through the encircling clash between the Human and Demon races, the Draconis Sword in his hand already dyed entirely with blood.
Fresh blood was absorbed by the Draconis Sword, purple-gold light radiating in all directions, the sword ringing sounding like a dragon’s roar.
The demonic aura in mid-air suddenly thickened a bit. Jeremy narrowed his eyes slightly, instantaneously teleporting beside Lancel—who was providing enhancement healing for dozens of people—twisted his wrist, and the Draconis Sword tore through the wind and pierced the sky.
“Ah ah ah ah!”
A miserable shriek rang out. The Crimson Wing Demon in mid-air was forced to reveal its true form, its right wing pierced through by the Draconis Sword, a stream of black-red blood gushing out along the wound.
Wherever the blood fell, a burst of gray smoke bubbled up from the ground.
The Crimson Wing Demon intended to flee. Jeremy raised his eyes and made a gesture towards a certain direction. Simultaneously, he immediately opened the barrier of the Reversed Moon Card, summoning the Moon Soul Angel to execute a large-scale enhancement.
Five minutes later.
The Crimson Wing Demon, having left Jeremy’s attack range, was forcibly blocked by Leon’s Lunar Ring. Phoenix on the other side immediately unleashed the Soul Trapping Array, leaving it nowhere to run.
“Hmph… Disgusting humans, what can this measly barrier do to me?” The Crimson Wing Demon sneered, just about to unleash the Soul Severing spell. But before it could even form the seals, Lucius’s phantom-like figure appeared behind its back, magic power transforming into a claw. Bare-handed, he pierced through its chest, viciously crushing the magic crystal core hidden within its heart.
Just like that, the tier-six Crimson Wing Demon completely stopped breathing.
Even unto death, it didn’t understand why it had died at the hands of a few lowly humans whose realms were lower than its own.
Feeling the stickiness on his hand, Lucius frowned slightly. With a wave of his hand, he destroyed the corpse and immediately summoned a stream of water to wash his hands.
Seeing this, Leon curled the corner of his mouth, mocking: “With such severe mysophobia, you still always choose this way to kill demons? Over the past month, I fear your hands are about to rot from washing so much.”
Lucius replied flatly: “Can you control it? I just like it.”
Leon smiled: “Don’t worry, I don’t mean to be concerned. I’m just afraid you’ll affect the progress.”
Evelyn had just finished dealing with the demons on the frontline and spread her wings to appear behind the two. Already used to their daily bickering, she directly interrupted: “Asaro’s group has finished dealing with a horde of tier-five Blazing Flame Demons. Now that these scattered dregs are dealt with, we can withdraw our troops.”
With Evelyn’s appearance, Leon and Lucius also fell silent, coordinating to advance to another area.
Evelyn followed closely behind.
The three figures split into a tripod formation. In less than ten seconds, they completely locked down the eastern gap of the battlefield.
Seeing things going smoothly on their end, Jeremy also stopped worrying.
Just as he was about to continue advancing, he was called back by Lancel beside him.
Jeremy: “What is it?”
Lancel used magic power to hold an ink-wash-painting-like scroll hovering in mid-air to maintain the enhancement for the others, then looked at Jeremy, saying: “You’ve consumed too much. Leave the rest to them.”
Their newly formed squad took those with high cultivation as the core.
Although the realms within the team didn’t differ much, Jeremy’s overall strength far surpassed everyone else’s, so naturally, he served as the captain.
This month, Jeremy had also always charged to the front. Battle plans and personnel arrangements were basically handled single-handedly by him; he could be considered the busiest person in the team. Continuing like this, even the most capable person wouldn’t be able to hold on.
Over the past thirty days, the number of times he slept for a full two hours couldn’t be counted on one hand.
Thinking of this, Lancel added: “Tomorrow we will be assigned to Combat Zone A to provide support. Take this time to adjust your state to the best level.”
Jeremy knew he was concerned about him.
Although this battlefield was dangerous, compared to the difficulty of the previous inheritance trial, it was completely not worth mentioning. However, Lancel’s words made sense.
The West was divided into six combat zones.
The demons in Combat Zone C were currently at an average level, all from tier three to tier five, so they were basically handled by the students of the St. Aetherwing Academy.
That tier-six Crimson Wing Demon just now could be considered an exception, presumably a surprise attack organized by the demons.
However… they currently were long past being what they were at the beginning.
A month ago, the nine of them still had to discuss before acting. Now, it only took an upward glance.
Under Lancel’s selective enhancement, cross-tier demon killing could still be done.
But Combat Zone A was an existence second only to the S-rank combat zone.
After today, what they had to face would probably all be tier-five demons, even large-scale tier-six demons. Lancel’s worry wasn’t without reason.
Jeremy thought for a bit and still agreed: “Alright, then I’ll help you.”
With that said, he put away the Draconis Sword, summoned a few clones to take his place in cleaning up the remaining dregs on the battlefield, then the Star Edge Card morphed into a scepter, opening a magic array to restore magic power for Lancel, while simultaneously conducting healing for the surrounding allied troops.
Lancel: “…”
His intention was actually for Jeremy to go rest. Now like this, could it still be considered resting?
Lancel felt somewhat helpless, but didn’t say anything more.
His line of sight shifted to the other people in the team.
Being assigned to this team this time, he truly benefited immensely.
Although the realm differences weren’t large, every member in the team brought him unexpected joys.
Especially…
From the corner of his eye, Lancel glanced at the person beside him, a hint of a smile in his eyes.
Should it be said that it truly lives up to being the direct dragon bloodline of the Valmont family? Compared to expectations, it makes people feel even more… admiring?
Lancel couldn’t think of any words fitting the person beside him. It wasn’t that they were unsuitable, he just felt that tens of thousands of words of praise couldn’t compare to the person himself.
