Chapter 3780: Looking Down On Him

Chapter 3780: Looking Down On Him

Little Bull stepped off the ship right behind Elder He Jian.

The moment they descended onto the platform, several figures were already waiting.

All of them wore the standard robes of Outer Court disciples.

Their robes were primarily white with deep blue accents running along the sleeves and collars looking like streams. Yet there was one detail that immediately set them apart from the ordinary disciples Lin Mu had seen during the journey.

Each wore a silver badge on their chest and a ruler had been carved onto the badge. Lin Mu recognized it immediately. ’Administrative Division.’

The disciples responsible for the day to day management of the sect. Among the countless divisions of the Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect, the Administrative Division possessed an influence that few outsiders truly understood.

They handled records, disciple registrations, assessments, resource allocation, transport logistics, territory management, and countless other tasks that allowed a power of this size to continue operating smoothly.

Without them, the sect would collapse into chaos within a month.

The leading disciple stepped forward respectfully.

"Elder He Jian." The young man cupped his fists. "We welcome your return."

The elder smiled and returned the greeting. "It has been some time."

The disciple nodded. "Indeed. The other elders have already received word of your arrival."

His gaze briefly drifted toward Little Bull. "We heard that Elder He Jian has discovered a rather unique recruit this time."

A hint of curiosity could be seen in his eyes.

The elder merely stroked his beard. "We shall see after the assessment."

The disciple did not ask further as he understood that pressing an elder for details was inappropriate.

"Please follow us. The elders are currently gathered."

The group began walking through the port district. As they moved forward, Zhou Ren naturally assumed the role of guide once more.

"Junior Brother, this entire area is called the Sky Harbor District," Zhou Ren explained.

Little Bull looked around curiously. "So many ships."

Zhou Ren laughed. "This is actually one of the smaller harbors."

Little Bull stopped walking. "Smaller?"

The young man stared around him. There were thousands of people moving through the district, hundreds of ships and countless buildings. The place looked larger than entire cities he had supposedly lived near.

Yet Zhou Ren had just called it small.

The expression on Little Bull’s face made several nearby disciples chuckle and even Elder He Jian smiled.

"Once you’ve been here longer, you’ll get used to it."

Little Bull nodded slowly. "Big place... Very big place."

The simplicity of the statement earned another laugh from Zhou Ren. But the two Administrative Division disciples walking ahead remained silent. Outwardly they maintained polite expressions.

Internally, however, their opinions were rapidly forming.

They had already examined Little Bull several times. The young man looked rough. His clothes were simple. And his mannerisms lacked refinement. The way he walked made him appear more like a laborer than a future disciple.

Now that they had heard him speak several times, their initial impressions only deepened. To them, he sounded like a peasant who had somehow wandered into the wrong place. Still, Elder He Jian had personally brought him back.

That alone prevented them from openly showing any disdain.

The elder’s reputation might not be outstanding among the upper echelons of the sect, but he remained an elder. A disciple offending an elder’s recruit would be foolish.

The two men exchanged glances and one subtly activated a small talisman hidden beneath his sleeve. A faint fluctuation spread out. The talisman created a private communication field.

Most cultivators below their level would never notice it and even many immortals would overlook it. Unfortunately for them, Lin Mu was neither. His cultivation might be sealed. But his senses were not.

The whispers reached him clearly.

"Looks like Elder He Jian’s habits still haven’t changed," the first disciple quietly said.

"When have they ever changed?" The second snorted. "He spends years traveling the outer worlds and always comes back with village bumpkins."

"Meanwhile the other recruiting elders are bringing in geniuses from clans, noble families, and established powers."

The first disciple nodded. "There is probably a reason he still hasn’t been promoted."

"He keeps insisting on looking among commoners." The second laughed quietly. "He says talent can be found anywhere."

"Perhaps. But talented youths from powerful families are a safer investment."

The first disciple looked back toward Little Bull. The young man was currently staring at a passing flying beast carriage with complete fascination.

His expression became even more dismissive. "This one barely looks literate."

The second disciple shrugged. "At least he looks healthy."

Both suppressed their laughter, but Lin Mu heard every word. He also saw the movement of their lips. Even if the talisman had somehow hidden the sound, he would have understood them easily.

His expression did not change and Little Bull continued looking around innocently. Internally, Lin Mu simply added another observation to his growing understanding of the sect. The Heavenly Stream Guardian Sect was enormous.

Any organization of this size would naturally contain every type of person imaginable. People like Elder He Jian existed, people like Zhou Ren existed and people like these two disciples existed as well.

There would be ambitious people, arrogant people, kind people, cruel people, scheming people and honest people. The sect was effectively an entire society. Expecting otherwise would have been naive.

As they continued walking, Elder He Jian finally asked a question. "When is the next assessment session?"

The leading disciple immediately answered. "One week from now, Elder."

Elder He Jian nodded thoughtfully, but before he could respond, the second disciple suddenly spoke. "Actually, Elder... there is one taking place right now."

The old man looked up. "Oh?"

"It began this morning."

Now even Zhou Ren looked interested. "Are you planning to send Little Bull immediately?"

Elder He Jian stroked his beard before he looked toward the young man walking beside him. "What do you think?"

Little Bull scratched his head.

The gesture looked completely genuine.

"As long as I get food first, I’m fine."

The answer came instantly and there was no hesitation or nervousness.

Just food, that’s all he wanted.
