Chapter 1436: Chapter 610: Battle of the Blood Pine Forest (2)
"Understood! Understood!" Gailte’s army erupted with fervent morale, raising their weapons and shouting loudly, "We know!"
"If Odo thinks he can take what is rightfully mine, he’s gravely mistaken!"
"I, Biersaze Gaert, am the only suitable choice for the position of Imperial Royal Chief Grand Wizard! I am the one who should wield Wolan’s Staff!"
"The Wind of Piety will rise and annihilate all who dare to stand in my way! Now is the era of our Golden Academy, and I will eliminate all obstacles. Anyone who dares to obstruct me will watch helplessly as their armor turns into cast lead, their weapons into molten iron, and their bones into gold!"
"Everyone, please fight! Please bring victory to me! The Empire needs my power, I am the strongest one, not some foolish Flame Grand Mage or a dull Light White Mage!"
"For the Empire’s interest, I must become the supreme magic leader of this land, Odo, this fool, cannot stop me!"
"For the Emperor, for Holy Terra!" Gaert raised his Magic Staff high in the sky, his voice echoing within the Blood Pine Forest, and then, a golden curtain enveloped his army, their armor becoming extremely hard.
"Ahhh!" Gailte’s army responded loudly, and then, their respective troops began to form ranks.
Gaert first placed three Musket Soldier Battalions in the front row, Long Halberdiers in the second row, a Crossbowman Battalion in the third row, with thousands of Long Spear Soldiers and Sword and Shield Soldiers at the flanks. Two squads of Imperial Knights and two squads of Great Swordsmen were positioned at the rear. Additionally, large groups of cannons and more advanced war machines were ready. Moreover, Gaert also possessed two squads of Vanguard Knights equipped with grenade launchers, which was one of the key reasons for his alliance with Nuer.
As the first shell from the Hellstorm Rocket Cannon soared into the sky, a civil war amongst humans erupted.
Firstly, the artillery from both sides began shelling each other. Odo, trying his best, procured two artillery squads from the Imperial Army and the Church, firing twenty cannons simultaneously, creating a magnificent scene that immediately prompted Gaert to order his army to disperse and avoid the artillery fire.
But that was far from enough.
Gaert’s army was equipped with the Empire’s most advanced Hellstorm Rocket Cannon and Hellstorm Rapid-Fire Cannon, boasting over thirty guns, not including a large number of cannons. As the army opened fire, rows of Hellstorm rockets ascended into the sky, then directly descended into Odo’s troops, explosions resounding continuously. Compared to the heavy cannons under Odo, Gaert’s firepower proved to be more powerful. The Great Alchemist’s expertise in black powder and engineering was beyond Odo’s comprehension. On this expedition, he brought the latest war machines manufactured by the Nuer Armory and Brunswick Military Factory.
In the artillery duel, Odo was outmatched from the onset, not just by the power of the war machines, but also by Gaert’s stronger magic.
"Mere flames can never compare to the molten flow of metal!" As Gaert chanted loudly, hundreds of streams of molten metal descended from the sky, blasting Odo’s artillery positions into disarray, with heavy casualties. The entire artillery position was silenced temporarily, and when Odo attempted to cast the Light of Exile, he immediately realized the distance was too great, and his magic couldn’t possibly exceed the range of the artillery!
"Damn it, relay my order, advance the entire army!" Gaert’s plan worked. Under fire suppression, Odo was forced to bravely order his entire army to advance: "Attack!"
Odo’s troops began an active assault: "Advance! For the Empire, for Charlemagne, for Carl Franz!"
"In the name of the Emperor, open fire!" Gaert simultaneously issued his command, four Musket Battalions and one Crossbowman Battalion immediately opened fire under the protection of the Long Halberdiers, and all at once, the entire Blood Pine Forest rang with thunderous sounds. Hundreds of muskets spewed thick white smoke from their dark muzzles, and a dense barrage engulfed Odo’s soldiers at the forefront, causing hundreds of human soldiers to fall instantly. The remaining soldiers struggled to advance while holding shields.
"Fire! Fire!" The Vanguard Knights holding grenade launchers fired in unison, engulfing the charging enemies in grenades. These Musket Cavalry fired once and then immediately retreated.
"Activate!" The Hellstorm Rapid-Fire Cannon was activated, its notorious weapon spraying strings of fire tongues, causing even the air to seem to tremble. Screams, mixed with monotonous swooshes and explosions, lingered for a long time. Projectiles pierced through flesh, fire tongues shattered bodies, and faced with such terrifying firepower, Odo’s army fell repeatedly. Even those who managed to reach the front of Gaert’s army could not break through their defenses. Conversely, under the powerful firepower of Gaert, Odo’s troops began to lose some morale.
However, both Wizard Leaders felt the pain almost simultaneously. A civil war among humans was not something they wanted to see. It’s not common for human armies to fight each other. Imagine the rows of dense spear formations, the knights pacing on horseback, flags waving, and war drums pounding, yet not against the Greenskins, Beastmen, or evil Northern enemies; the ones falling after the clashes were their own Imperial citizens! It was truly unthinkable. Gaert’s hand gripping the reins of his Pegasus Swift Silver trembled slightly, and Odo’s expression turned grim as he watched his army collapse under the muskets’ power.
