Warhammer: The 11th Primarch - The Black Emperor

Chapter 1002 - 1001: The Power a False God Grants to Heretic Believers Is Ultimately Inferior to the Grant of the True God

Nareth recalled that after Menes Kalliston, Captain of the Thousand Sons' Fourth Fellowship, lost contact with the Legion, he led Revuel Arvida and a squad back to Prospero to seek the truth and search for survivors.

Go to read the full content of this book.

He was ambushed by the World Eaters led by Khârn. Apart from Arvida, the entire squad of Thousand Sons was killed.

Menes himself was captured by Khârn and subjected to cruel torture.

'Save Menes, and I can horn in on the Fourth Fellowship Thousand Sons under his command.' Nareth's eyes burned with the flame of "Ambition."

He remembered that before Menes was killed by Khârn, he believed that Magnus and the Legion's fate was self-inflicted.

This showed that his loyalty to his gene-father was not unshakable.

"You and Torgun, find a way to rescue the Thousand Sons captured by Khârn and the others."

"By Your Will," Hasik answered respectfully, then asked in confusion.

"My lord, during the battle with Khârn, I felt his vitality was extraordinary."

"After Khârn was implanted with the Butcher's Nails, he only finds pleasure in the process of slaughtering enemies. His love of killing is so deep that it even attracted the gaze of the evil gods in the Warp," Nareth said.

"Last year, during the battle on Isstvan III, in his fight with the loyalist Sons of Horus Gavriel Loken."

"Loken smashed him onto a rebel vehicle. The blade pierced through his chest. He should have died."

Nareth knew from Akurduana's report that Khârn had fought a battle similar to Loken's.

"But he had long since set foot on the Blood God's Eightfold Path of Blood. He had already received the evil god's blessing."

"Horus knew this. He gave Khârn a kill counter, now installed on his helmet's occulus, and entrusted him with the task of retrieving the Moon Wolf."

"He accepted this task. He said, 'Thank the gods, I will be unbound to undertake a mission even more pleasing to me for this great cause.'"

Of course, Nareth also knew that what mattered more to Khârn in accepting this task than his faith in the gods and the Warmaster's orders was finding a cure for the Butcher's Nails, the Thousand Sons' psychic treatment device.

It was just that after learning the device had been destroyed, he refused Menes's help, completely abandoned treatment, and devoted himself wholeheartedly to pursuing the Eightfold Path of Blood.

As Nareth spoke, he transmitted knowledge related to Chaos and other matters to Hasik through a thought pulse.

Hasik's eyes narrowed slightly as he digested the knowledge flooding into his mind: Chaos, Khorne.

"Heretics!" he denounced furiously.

The Chaos Gods were merely false gods of the Warp. The Black Emperor was the one true god.

'The power a false god grants to heretic believers is ultimately inferior to the grant of the true god.'

Hasik knew that in the past, there had been no small gap between his combat power and that of Khârn, Sigismund, and others. But now he had completely suppressed Khârn in battle.

If not for the fact that he had expended too much spirituality dealing with the ghostly Psychneueins and swiftly killing the World Eaters, and that Khârn had hundreds of World Eaters beside him, and more crucially, that he had not known at the time that the other side were heretics, he would surely have killed the false god's believer.

The black mist surged, wrapping around Hasik.

When he came to again, he was back at the library ruins of Tizca.

After dispelling the "Euclidean Rune," Hasik came before Torgun.

"A new task. Lord Nareth orders us to rescue the Thousand Sons' Fourth Fellowship Captain, Menes Kalliston."

Torgun gazed at Hasik. 'Prospero has an aetheric barrier, and Warp storms interfere. Even Astropaths would find it difficult to communicate.

Even if the Warp were calm, cross-system astropathic communication would require a series of processes including relay stations and choir decoding. It could never be so rapid.

Lord Nareth must possess a communication method far beyond astropaYou, perhaps some kind of Beyonder ability. Hasik is someone he trusts, and so he was told of this communication method.'

"Whatever Lord Nareth commands, I will give my all."

The two acted immediately, heading to the location where they had first encountered the World Eaters.

When they were still three kilometers from the battle site, they halted. They successively used the auspex array, naked eyes, spirit vision, and the "Hunter's" perspective to observe, confirming there was no World Eater ambush nearby.

"Your Provocation, made the World Eaters lose their minds more," Torgun praised.

"What matters more is the grasp of intelligence. As a Conspirer, you should be very clear about that," Hasik said.

After becoming a "Reaper," "Provocation" had improved slightly, but it was not a qualitative change.

It could take effect because the World Eaters were no longer like the old "War Hounds," who possessed both hot blood and discipline. They had degenerated into undisciplined killing fanatics.

"Let us split up. Examine the traces left by the World Eaters. Find their lair."

"You follow the tracks from where they came. I will search the surroundings."

"Good." Torgun watched Hasik step onto the blazing white spear.

Trailing flames, he howled past at low altitude at three times his own height.

'Lord Hasik now possesses many wondrous abilities.'

'He must have received one more grant from Lord Nareth than I have. It seems he was promoted during the war with Lady Hera.' Torgun thought silently.

'Each grant of power greatly enhances our abilities.'

Torgun gently touched the bronze mask sealed by a psychic wall and hanging at his waist.

'As long as I capture Magnus's soul fragment, I can obtain the same power as Lord Hasik. More crucially, I will complete Lord Nareth's sacred task.'

He shut off the auspex array, then opened the "Hunter's" perspective.

Torgun's senses rose sharply. He could clearly hear the pumping of his two hearts, and even the faint clicking of the ghostly Psychneueins' mouthparts underground.

The footprints on the ground rapidly became clear. The shallow footprints buried by ash slowly emerged.

Even the distribution of dust became exceptionally clear.

His nose twitched slightly. The subtle scents of the World Eaters' corpses differed:

A World Eater holding a two-handed chainaxe had the strongest smell of blood, reminding him of Khârn, whom he had encountered not long ago.

Another World Eater, dual-wielding a chainaxe in each hand, had the strongest smell of metal and sweat.

Torgun stepped forward, following the information provided by the "Heightened Senses" that interwove vision and smell, tracing the path the World Eaters had taken.

He had obtained "Heightened Senses" at the "Hunter" stage. It had not been greatly enhanced at the "Provoker" and "Pyromaniac" stages.

But after becoming a "Conspirer," along with the improvement in information gathering, the accompanying enhancement of the five physical senses and spiritual perception had increased no small amount.

Torgun's grasp of the environment even exceeded the Stormseers' insight into their surroundings.

He walked past craters still burning with ash, stepped over rubble and debris, his boots crushing glass fragments.

The smell of blood, metal, and savage acrid stench grew stronger. Torgun knew he was getting closer and closer to the World Eaters' operational base.

After crossing a collapsed residential building, the collapsed wreckage of a pyramid appeared before him.

Noyan-Khan Hasik, holding his guandao, stood at the pyramid's entrance. At his feet lay a squad of World Eaters.

Dong-dong-dong!

A squad of World Eaters roared as they charged out from within the pyramid.

"Conspirer" Torgun's body blazed with flame. With a wave of his hand, a string of fireballs howled out.

The fireballs' trailing flames, like launching rockets, dragged Torgun's body, rapidly closing the distance to the pyramid's entrance.

Boom-boom-boom!

The fireballs slammed into blue-white armor, blasting their bodies black.

"Conspirer" Torgun, dragged by "Pyrokinesis," crashed into the World Eaters. He drew his curved power sword and pressed the Runic symbol.

The instant the shining blue energy field rose, he swept his sword in a horizontal slash.

The blade screamed as it cut into blue-white armor, exploding bursts of blood mist.

Torgun killed a squad of World Eaters, then saw the blazing white spear carrying Hasik howl as it shot into the pyramid.

His brow furrowed slightly, then he took a great stride, closely pursuing Hasik forward.

The two advanced rapidly one after the other. Streaks of flying flame howled, taking the lives of one World Eater after another, their steps never pausing.

Bang!
