Wasteland Hideout: Upgrading from the Sewers

Chapter 665: Ladiz's Startling Discovery, Microorganisms? Superconducting Material? Insanity!

"The Ice Crystal Spider Fiend's strength has increased again."

Yu Yuan quickly retreated from the current area.

But the Ice Crystal Spider Fiend's power filled him with deep dread.

When the Ice Crystal Spider Fiend had fought the players last time, it was nowhere near as powerful as it was now.

Mossa's attack this time had been quite spectacular, even Yu Yuan had thought she could eliminate the threat of the Ice Crystal Spider Fiend.

Yet in the end, it still fell short of success.

"The extreme low temperature environment enhances the Ice Crystal Spider Fiend far too excessively. The ambient temperature of the Green Forest World is now already very close to the lowest temperature of the Endless Cold Wave.

If we want to deal with it, we can only pin our hopes on the temperature rising again."

This time wasn't entirely without gains, either.

"So that Elemental Core was its weak point all along. That's something we might be able to exploit."

-

Northern Wilderness.

A massive convoy of vehicles was approaching Green Forest City.

Ladiz stared at the Virtual Light Screen with a grim expression.

Mossa had lost contact.

A few minutes ago, Mossa had sent out her final distress message.

After that, there was no further sign of her.

"How much farther to the city?"

"Leader, about three to four hundred kilometers more."

"Three to four hundred kilometers!"

Ladiz let out a sigh.

It was too late.

The environment of this world was even harsher than he had imagined.

Reinforcements were no longer realistic.

In fact, Mossa might already be eliminated.

He had to revise his plans.

Just then.

"Leader, we've spotted something."

Ladiz looked at the surveillance feed.

A stretch of black land appeared ahead of the convoy.

"What is this?"

Ladiz furrowed his brows slightly.

"Leader, we've discovered the carcass of a giant creature."

"A giant creature carcass? Where? Switch the feed over."

The image on the screen switched, and to the right of the convoy, a carcass lay on the ground.

The carcass, along with the entire surrounding area, was pitch black.

It was clear that the creature had been dead for quite some time.

Its body was incomplete and mangled.

Ladiz studied the carcass carefully and soon spotted a suspicious detail.

"Convoy, halt. Launch reconnaissance drones."

When the drone relayed a close-up view of the carcass back to him.

Ladiz's expression drastically changed.

"Is this... liquid? They're digesting this carcass?!?! How is that possible?"

On the screen, a black liquid was slowly writhing across the mangled carcass, forming layers of sluggish, creeping ripples.

Chunks of flesh fell away from the skeleton, splattering down with a wet thud as they dropped into the black liquid.

The black liquid, as if it had detected food, immediately enveloped the flesh chunks.

And began decomposing them.

The black liquid gave off gurgling bubbles.

Finally, it all vanished without a trace, returning to stillness.

This eerie scene left Ladiz utterly dumbfounded.

At a temperature of minus eighty-something degrees Celsius, this black liquid wasn't frozen at all, and it even possessed some kind of peculiar active properties.

A player's innate keen intuition made Ladiz realize the value of this black liquid.

Or it was some kind of high-value superconducting material.

Whichever it was, it represented an enormous fortune.

But soon, Ladiz's smile faded.

"A creature this massive is at least Bronze-tier. Anything that can easily kill a Bronze-tier creature carries a certain degree of danger..."

After a moment of deliberation.

Ladiz gave the order.

"Sharp Blade, take some men and collect some of that black liquid. Be careful!"

"Yes, Leader!"

Two armored vehicles left the convoy and drove toward the black liquid.

They stopped at a distance of about twenty-plus meters from the black liquid.

Five men got out. Three held rifles in alert stance, while two carried briefcases in their hands.

These were the signature technological products of Ladiz's 'Dawn Civilization'—inert storage containers.

They were the most suitable for storing dangerous materials.

The soldiers were already accustomed to this.

One man took out a syringe, another a reagent bottle, and they began extracting the black liquid.

Only then did they discover.

Although the black liquid appeared to be flowing slowly.

When the syringe tried to draw it up, it was like trying to extract a non-Newtonian fluid.

It couldn't be pulled into the syringe at all.

"This doesn't seem like liquid!"

Another soldier, seeing this, drew a dagger from his waist and stabbed it into the black liquid.

"Whatever it is, as long as we get it into the storage container..."

"True, be careful!"

The dagger sank cleanly into the black liquid. The soldier applied slow, steady force and began to cut.

But there was a dull, dragging sensation, like cutting leather with a blunt knife.

"Why is there so much resistance."

The soldier increased his cutting force, his body leaning slightly with the effort.

But at that moment, the spot where his dagger connected with the black liquid corroded and snapped apart directly.

Caught completely off guard, the soldier's overexerted momentum sent him tumbling headfirst into the black liquid.

"Old Liu!" the other soldiers cried out in alarm.

"Pull him up, quick!"

"Save me..."

The soldier named Old Liu let out a cry for help.

But what happened next left the other soldiers frozen in place, their eyes wide with horror.

The black liquid that had behaved like a non-Newtonian fluid moments ago suddenly turned exceptionally active.

It frantically converged on Old Liu, spreading across his body.

Even that tech-laden suit of armor couldn't stop the black liquid.

Wherever the black liquid passed, the armor instantly became mottled and corroded.

The gleaming blue-white light strips flickered erratically, then went dark.

"Save me, save me, save..."

Old Liu was completely devoured by the black liquid.

He became a raised protrusion on the ground.

From the moment Old Liu fell into the black liquid to being consumed, no more than three to five seconds had passed.

"Ah—"

zzzzt zzzzt—

One soldier snapped back to his senses, raised his weapon, and pulled the trigger at the black liquid.

A blue beam shot from the muzzle and struck the black liquid.

But it split into several smaller beams, scattering in all directions.

"This..."

The soldiers instinctively retreated a few steps, their faces filled with disbelief.

Ladiz took in every detail through the drone feed.

His expression grew more and more excited.

"Incredible, it can actually deflect laser rifle beams..."

His mind was already racing with applications for this mysterious material.

Defensive armor. If this material could be made into defensive armor.

Then wouldn't energy attacks become completely ignorable?

And if research went even deeper, was it possible to directly reflect an enemy's energy attacks back at them?

Based on the current observations of this black liquid, this idea wasn't just a wild fantasy.

What Yu Yuan? What reinforcements?

Ladiz cast it all out of his mind. He had only one thought now, and that was how to obtain this material.

"I must take this material with me..." Ladiz's gaze at the screen burned with feverish intensity.
