Chapter 485 268: Something's Wrong With This Attendant
Perhaps it was the threat of death, or perhaps it was the indignity of being provoked by a mere Attendant, but the Red-armored Knight no longer cared about potentially harming the so-called noble guests around him. A sky full of feathers materialized behind him.
Promise of the Griffin Feather.
The faint sound of a gale rose around the Red-armored Knight. Feathers, dense as a swarm of bees, shot like arrows from a crossbow toward the approaching Attendant, streaking through the air in slivers of silver light.
The guests nearly cried out; judging by the sheer scope of these Silver Flowers, it was obvious they were also in the path of the attack.
Some of the Griffin Knights came to their senses, drawing their Longswords to protect the crowd and readying themselves to slice apart any incoming Griffin Feathers.
But at that very moment, everyone's eyes suddenly widened, their mouths falling slightly agape as if they had just witnessed something unbelievable.
At the center of their focus, under the astonished gazes of the entire crowd, the Attendant suddenly took a deep breath.
This single breath changed his entire presence once again, as if the wind in a bamboo forest had turned frantic, as if the ripples in an ancient spring had surged into crashing waves.
In the instant he swung his sword, nearly everyone saw the same illusion: all the Griffin Feathers fired by the Red-armored Knight seemed to turn back on themselves, like a gale scattering a torrential downpour.
A true gale, a true downpour. In the Attendant's hands, that Knight's Sword was indeed like a raging storm.
Everyone could see the arc of the Attendant's swing was exceptionally clean and decisive, made up entirely of straight diagonal slashes and vertical cuts. This caused the arcs of light from his blade to also be perfectly straight. Because he moved so fast, the lines connected, reminding onlookers of the geometric figures a teacher might draw on a blackboard, precisely carving the sky of Silver Flowers into several distinct planes.
Then, all the Silver Flowers within these planes were overwhelmed by an even denser flurry of triangles, squares, rectangles, and parallelograms of light. In the end, all the geometric shapes, all the Silver Flowers, vanished from sight. All anyone could hear was the furious CLANGING of metal on metal, like a blacksmith frantically hammering a newly forged piece of refined iron.
Sparks flashed around the Attendant like fireworks, brilliantly illuminating the surrounding scene.
In the bright glow of the sparks, the expressions on the faces of the surrounding guests were like those of Priests who had seen a demon or a god, or of Roman soldiers discovering Crusaders at the foot of their walls.
The nearby Knights also wore constipated expressions—no, to say they looked constipated wasn't quite enough. To put it more vividly, they looked like someone who was constipated and had just realized they'd forgotten to bring toilet paper.
"This... Are all the Attendants from Lancelot's Family this incredible? I think I finally understand why Miss Freya is so high-profile," a Griffin Knight said numbly.
If a single Attendant possessed such immense strength, one couldn't even begin to imagine how deep the reserves of Lancelot's Family truly ran.
"He blocked every single Griffin Feather with just one sword... A technique like that would probably rank him among the very top of the entire Griffin Knight Order, and he's just an Attendant from Lancelot's Family?" another Knight said, dumbfounded.
"No, it's not just that. He's... he's still moving forward!" a Knight suddenly exclaimed, pointing at the Attendant shrouded in the Silver Flowers with an astonished tone.
Everyone else followed his gaze and instantly drew in a sharp breath.
The Attendant, holding the Knight's Sword he had seized, was not only cutting down every Silver Flower but was actually starting to stride forward!
He walked with the leisurely confidence of someone taking an after-dinner stroll through Outer London, putting up an umbrella at the first sign of rain.
But he wasn't holding an umbrella, he was holding a sword. And this so-called rain was made of Griffin Feathers that could easily pierce a steel plate.
The arcs drawn by his sword formed a white wall between the two men, a wall that flickered with sparks and was accompanied by a deafening roar.
With every step the Attendant took forward, the white wall advanced with him. The sparks grew more brilliant and dense, and the sound grew louder. It reached a point where the spectating guests subconsciously felt that even if the power in the auction house were to fail, the light from these concentrated sparks alone could illuminate the room for a good while.
"He managed to block all of the captain's Griffin Feathers using just his sword... I've only ever seen that from the Commander himself. I doubt even Vice Captain Jill has that kind of skill..." a Knight murmured.
"What are you talking about?" another Knight retorted. "Vice Captain Jill is a Bronze Knight. No matter how skilled this Attendant is, he's still a Tier below her. You can't compare Vice Captain Jill to a mere Attendant."
"However..."
That knight watched as the Attendant's sword swing instantly wiped out a swath of Silver Flowers, as if an invisible barrier separated him from their radiance. He paused, then quietly added:
"His skill is, admittedly, very strong."
Seeing Baron so relaxed, so at ease, so utterly in control, the Red-armored Knight's composure clearly began to crack. He never imagined his attack would be completely and utterly blocked by this Attendant.
'No wonder Elder Pence specifically instructed me to kill him on the spot if necessary.' Although he hadn't known the reason, the Red-armored Knight had thought, 'He's just an Attendant at best. How much trouble could he possibly be...'
But now, judging by the current situation, the Red-armored Knight realized his earlier decision—choosing an outright kill for the sake of convenience—was likely a mistake.
He had originally thought that even if the man was a Law Enforcer, he was still just an Attendant to a young lady of an Old Blood Clan. 'How strong could a Law Enforcer who has sunk so low as to become an Attendant possibly be? A truly powerful Law Enforcer could at least become a Household Servant in the Old Blood Family... I just never thought a Law Enforcer would actually be willing to become an Attendant.'
There was actually a similar Trial within the Knight Order, where a Griffin Knight would use Griffin Feathers to hone the other Knights' reflexes and swing speed. However, such a Trial was usually only conducted when safety was guaranteed.
