Chapter 491 - 271: Whose Attendant is This?

  • Next Chapter

Aile clutched his chest and glanced at the Red-armored Knight on the ground. He suppressed his shock and said,

"That’s still no excuse for you to kill people as you please!"

Baron ignored him. He could feel himself about to lose control of his bloodlust. Right now, only by continuously Bloodletting could he maintain his sanity.

’There is another way, of course—reveal my identity as a Dragon Knight. But setting the risks aside, for all I know, Elder Pence has another frame-up waiting for me. To truly prove who I am, I’d have to confront that "Fake Baron" impersonating me directly.’

’The most frustrating part is that Illusory Cocoon is still on cooldown. Otherwise, I would’ve already run up the stairs and teleported to the ruins of the Dragon Family estate. No, wait, that’s not right. I’ve never even been there, but I could have picked a spot nearby.’

As these thoughts crossed his mind, Baron reached the window. Only four Knights stood in his way: two Griffin Knights and two Lion-eyed Knights.

Among the Lion-eyed Knights was Aile’s companion who had come to warn them. Their Spiritual Power Tiers were all Black Iron. Baron only needed a glance to know he could defeat them in less than two breaths.

"Don’t come any closer!" Aile’s companion said. "You’re trying to escape, aren’t you?"

Baron paid them no mind and continued to advance. Aile’s companion exchanged a look with the other three Knights, and as one, they launched their attack on Baron.

Baron had no desire to kill them. More accurately, he didn’t want the scent of their blood to trigger his own bloodlust, which could lead to a greater, uncontrollable slaughter.

So, with a mere tremor of his frame, a wave of Vast Spiritual Qi erupted from him, sending the four Knights flying.

"A surge of Spiritual Power... You’re a Bronze Tier Law Enforcer! Who are you?!" Aile stammered, still clutching his chest. "You’re not an Attendant at all!"

The revelation of the Bronze Tier was enough for Aile to be certain that the Attendant before him was an imposter. It was just as he’d suspected—no Bronze Tier Law Enforcer would willingly serve as a mere Attendant in an Old Blood Clan.

Baron, however, did not reply. Nor did he proceed with his planned escape. Instead, he stood perfectly still, as if waiting for something.

Sure enough, a noise came from outside the window. The deputy commander of the Griffin Knight Order, fiancé of the Lancelot family’s Legitimate Daughter, a Bronze Griffin Knight, and Young Master of the Hestia Family, Jill Hestia, emerged from the darkness with a large troop of Knights from the Griffin Knight Order.

Including Jill, there were seven in total. All were fully armed, their hawklike eyes fixed on Baron. Judging by their Spiritual Pressure, they were all Black Iron Tier Knights, long-practiced in their Tier. The quality of their Spiritual Power was nearly on par with that of Aile Lancelot, a candidate for commander, and one of them was even stronger than Aile.

If he were to classify them using the cultivation realms from the fantasy novels of his previous life, these people were all at Black Iron Half-Step Perfection, with one at Black Iron Peak Great Perfection—apart from Jill, who was Bronze.

Jill glanced at the dead Red-armored Knight on the floor, then looked silently at Baron. His tone was complex as he said:

"Just as Elder Pence predicted. The Blood Race member from the auction had an accomplice."

’Elder Pence... That guy’s like a ghost that won’t go away. According to Fla, basically all the bad luck I’ve had so far is because of him... and because of the original owner of this body, that unlucky bastard who just happened to walk right into it.’

After that internal complaint, Baron snatched the swords from two of the Knights on the ground and charged straight at Jill Hestia.

Simultaneously, at Jill Hestia’s command, the Griffin Knights fanned out in an intricate pattern. They adopted the same "V" Array as the Red-armored Knight had, but theirs was more polished and complete.

Judging by the clean, decisive arcs of their swords, Baron knew it wouldn’t be as easy to break this Array as it was the last time, especially with a Bronze Knight restricting his movements.

From the corner of his eye, Baron saw the Lion-eyed Knight Aile get back to his feet. He thought grimly, ’Hmm... now I have to factor him in, too.’

At this thought, he changed his thrust into a throw. Releasing the swords, he let them fly. As the Knights raised their own blades to block, he spun around and charged in the opposite direction—into their midst!

But he skidded to a halt. He had heard a faint whisper of wind from above—a sound so subtle, it was almost imperceptible. If not for his superhuman hearing as a Dragon Knight, he would never have caught it.

Then he saw Jill Hestia, standing amidst the Knights, sword in one hand. He stood ramrod straight, like a tree, while wings of a color between gray and white beat gently behind him. As the Knight raised his sword, the wings slowly lowered to the ground. The very tips of the feathers sliced softly into the floor.

Baron’s heart sank. ’This is bad,’ he thought. ’Looks like I have no choice but to reveal my identity as a Dragon Knight... and take the blame they’ve prepared for me.’

Baron spread his hands. "I’m not from the Blood Race. I believe Mr. Aile here would be happy to explain on behalf of justice."

Aile hesitated for a moment before speaking. "This Attendant is indeed not of the Blood Race. At least, since the fight began, he has never shown any characteristics of the Blood Race."

He glanced at Baron, his tone complex. "And the same goes for his Combat Skills. They are mostly techniques befitting a Knight, just mixed with some of the underhanded tricks of a Demon Hunter."

’Wait a minute. How come it’s "befitting a Knight" for a Knight, but "underhanded tricks" for a Demon Hunter? Is this whole world prejudiced against Demon Hunters?’ Baron raised an eyebrow. Something about Aile’s statement just didn’t sit right with him.
