I stepped out from behind the pillar, watching the super heroine smile at me when she saw me.

"Just for the record, I totally guessed. Didn’t think I was right," Singa Sister chuckled.

So she wasn’t even sure that I was there and just called out to see if anyone would appear huh? She got me.

I crossed my arms, "What do you want?"

She flew down to land in front of me, "Hmm? What do I want? Nothing, I guess? I just wanted to see who was giving Captain RV a run for his money."

"I’m not doing that."

"Yes, but you seem to annoy him quite a bit and that’s interesting to me."

I raised an eyebrow, "You’re not going to tell me that vigilantism is illegal and you have to arrest me or something?"

She waved her hand dismissively, "Ah, I’m not that big of a stickler for the rules as that guy is. He’s way too much of a goody two shoes for his own good sometimes. In a way, he’s like the perfect hero but that’s not my game."

She flicked her hair and looked around, as though checking if anyone else was around.

Seeing none, she smirked and nodded at me, "I’m the flexible type. You’re still helping out in your own way and even if you aren’t recognised as a hero officially, you are still doing heroic things. I’m not going to stop that. It would be another case if you were hurting people though."

I shrugged, "I was technically hurting the thugs though."

"Hmm... Correction, hurting innocent people without cause. Is that better?"

I couldn’t help but smile under the mask despite myself before gesturing in the direction of where Captain RV had flown off, "I’m more surprised you’re going against him though. Pretty sure people say that you two are a couple."

She let out a huff, "Me and him? A couple? Please. No way. That guy is married to his role as a hero, I doubt he’s even interested in anything related to dating to begin with. As for me, that guy’s not my type at all. They’re just grouping us together because we’re the two most well known heroes in this city."

That’s true. I know for a fact that these two have a rivalry and their rivalry have been broadcast before, it’s just people want to see them together as some kind of superhero couple because of who they are.

Must suck for both of them to have to deal with it.

"So what now?" I asked.

She smirked at me, "Well... Considering how I bailed you out, you owe me one, don’t you think?"

I narrowed my eyes behind my mask, "You want money?"

She actually started laughing out loud, "Ahahaha! What do I look like? A thug? No, no, I’m not shaking you down right now. You see, working as a hero alone gets boring sometimes so I wouldn’t mind having a partner, you know? Makes it more bearable if I had someone I could work together with."

"You’re talking about a sidekick."

"No, no, no. A partner, not a subordinate or an assistant~"

I raised an eyebrow and gestured towards the direction that Captain RV disappeared to again, "There’s that guy?"

Singa Sister rolled her eyes, "Come on, weren’t you listening? I can’t stand that guy. He does everything so by the book. If I hit a villain too hard, he’s also going to complain. He’s a pain to work with."

"So you decide to look for a vigilante partner instead? You’re not afraid what this might do to your PR?"

"Pfft~ I never cared about my public outlook to begin with. I do this because I want to, not because I need to. If they want to say bad things about me online, they can go ahead. I know that I’m doing what is right."

"You sound more like a vigilante with that speech... Why bother becoming a hero then?"

She gave me a mischievous smile, "Oh? What’s this? If you want to know my backstory, at least buy me a drink first. Or tell me yours."

I kept my mouth shut.

She chuckled, "I thought so. Now... Want to follow along? I still have an hour before I have to clock out. And I think you’ll have a better time doing what you do if you’re working alongside me, don’t you think?"

Hard to argue with that... If I was saying that I was backing up Singa Sister in dealing with the criminals, most people would give me a pass. Heck, even if Captain RV didn’t like it, I would just be a ’concerned citizen helping out’ instead of a vigilante.

I’m beating it on a technicality but since Captain RV was a stickler for the rules, he wouldn’t break his own rules just to get me either.

I crossed my arms, "I prefer to work alone though."

"Hmm... Do you care about being recognised for your deeds? I assume you don’t since you’re going around being a vigilante. Otherwise, you would have either became a hero or bragged about it incessantly. Seeing that you did neither, you’re just doing this because you want to help people even if you don’t get rewards for it, right?"

I nodded slowly, "You’re... Correct. What does that have to do with anything, though?"

She snapped her fingers, "Well then, I’ll just tag along with you instead of you following me! You can just go wherever you like and do whatever while I claim the credit and responsibility for them!"

Huh...

At first glance, it might seem like a greedy suggestion since she was claiming credit over my work, but she added that she would also accept the responsibility for them which meant if I were to cause property damage, she would also bear the consequences for them as well.

For her to accept that responsibility for someone she just met, she’s either too trusting or she just didn’t care.

Or she knew that I would not do something like that needlessly...

She must have already researched me in advance then... How much does she know? Does she know that I’m the Mortal God? What about my family?

As though reading my thoughts she waved at me casually, "Oh don’t worry, I didn’t dig that deep about you. Hooded Fighter, was it? I know you didn’t give yourself that name. You’ve been doing quite a bit of work around the city but you’re always careful with your work. Minimal property damage, always trying to resolve the problem quickly. Gone before the police arrives. You’re not showboating or even asking for a paycheck. So either you don’t need or you don’t want money."

I raised an eyebrow behind my mask, "You already have me profiled huh?"

"You weren’t that hard to find out about since you never bothered hiding your deeds after all. Although... I don’t remember hearing about the mask."

I touched the full face mask that I was wearing under my hoodie, something that I got Maylene to make for me since a hood wasn’t enough to hide my face completely to begin with. She already made the mask for my Mortal God persona so it was simple to tell her to make some ’backup masks’ as an excuse.

"Yeah... This is new," I told her as a matter of factly. "And you’re really sure you can trust me to do this right? I might just be some psychopath who is on a power trip for fun and doing this to satisfy my need for validation."

She shook her head, "Like I said, I highly doubt you’re doing this for fun since you don’t showboat so... Yes, I think you’re trustworthy enough for me to take responsibility for you."

I snorted, "Take responsibility? You sound like you just found a pet or a younger sibling."

"Hmm? That actually sounds good. I never had a younger brother so from now on, you’re my younger brother! Call me big sister from now on!"

"I will not be doing that."

"Aww... Come on, it’ll be fun! We’ll make a great team! You and I working together to take down criminals! You get the immunity and I get to fulfill my quota!"

"Since when do you guys have a quota?"

"Since right now! Come on! Lead the way!"

Well... I guess I get her protection and she gets a claim of the reward since the heroes are also paid by the problems they solve... So in a sense, me working as a vigilante would also be taking away the jobs for the professional heroes.

Might as well just let her take it then.

I jerked my chin at her, "If I end up screwing up something, you sure you can take responsibility for it?"

"Oh don’t worry about it. I decided to do this after all so I accept all responsibility! It’ll be fine!"

Something tells me that she’s only saying that because she really believes I won’t make trouble for her.

Oh well, you scratch my back, I scratch yours.

Fine then... I’ll just continue what I’m doing and just pretend she’s not there. If anything happens, it’s her fault.

Hope you can keep up.
