When Love Turns the Tables: The Mysterious Husband's Chase
Chapter 1385: Mom's Nagging
She actually felt much better today compared to yesterday, and after taking a shower and coming out of the bathroom, the kitchen was already wafting with delicious aromas.
Mrs. Xiao brought the dishes out one by one, and upon seeing Xiao Rou, she immediately called her over to eat.
“Rourou, come and eat more.”
Mrs. Xiao was putting food onto Xiao Rou’s plate while chiding her.
Xiao Rou picked up a piece of braised pork with preserved vegetables and put it into her mouth. The familiar taste made Xiao Rou smile sweetly: “Thanks, Mom.”
“What are you thanking me for? You insisted on moving out. If you lived at home, whatever you wanted to eat, Mom could make for you.”
“Over here…”
Xiao Rou had only said half a sentence when the phone on the coffee table rang.
She ran over to look at the caller ID and subconsciously glanced over at Mrs. Xiao, seeing she wasn’t looking in her direction, Xiao Rou took the phone to the balcony to answer the call.
It was naturally a call from Zhou Qi, probably thinking of yesterday’s events, asking if she had eaten.
Because Mrs. Xiao was still waiting for her over there, Xiao Rou didn’t talk much with Zhou Qi, quickly finished the call, and returned.
“Rourou, are you in love?”
As soon as Xiao Rou sat down, she heard Mrs. Xiao utter this sentence.
It scared Xiao Rou nearly to the point of falling off the chair.
“Mom, how could you think that?”
Mrs. Xiao smiled with utmost gentleness: “It’s time for you to fall in love at your age. I know many young people nowadays get into flash marriages, and Mom doesn’t think that’s bad. But Rourou, marriage is a big deal, and I hope you can take time to understand your partner. It’s best for you to date for two years and then get married; that’s the most suitable age.”
Mrs. Xiao started to ramble, she was a very traditional woman, so she took marriage very seriously. In Mrs. Xiao’s view, marrying someone is the most important thing in life, with emphasis on being faithful to one partner forever.
Although Xiao Rou wasn’t as traditional as Mrs. Xiao, she was somewhat influenced, which was why she always insisted on keeping safe during her previous relationships.
Now that Mrs. Xiao had started on the topic again, Xiao Rou’s mind spontaneously conjured Zhou Qi’s face.
Xiao Rou’s cheeks felt a bit hot, so she promptly buried her head low and softly said to the still talking Mrs. Xiao: “Mom, I’m not… not in love.”
She had a crush on someone, but she wasn’t in a relationship.
“With your personality, you need to find someone honest. I heard from your dad that Uncle Li’s son seems to have returned from the United States, why don’t you meet him?”
Xiao Rou abruptly lifted her head, how did the conversation move to this?
“Mom… I don’t want to go on a blind date.”
“I’m not asking you to go on a blind date, just to meet him casually. Didn’t you play well together when you were kids? Uncle Li and your dad have been friends for twenty years, they know each other well…”
Once Mrs. Xiao started rambling, she wouldn’t stop, leaving Xiao Rou somewhat helpless. That’s how her family was; Mr. Xiao tends to make decisions like a gavel striking — firm and final, while Mrs. Xiao would ramble so persistently until you had to accept.
Xiao Rou didn’t continue the conversation, silently bowing her head to eat.
After finishing the meal, Mrs. Xiao tidied up what needed tidying and prepared to leave.
“Mom, it’s quite late, why not stay overnight at my place?”
“How can that be? I have to get up early tomorrow morning to make breakfast for your dad. The ones bought outside aren’t clean.”
As Mrs. Xiao said this, she was already dressed and walking to the door. Suddenly, she remembered something, took out a card from her wallet: “Rourou, this is from your dad. It’s family, feel free to use it, don’t owe others anything.”
