When Love Turns the Tables: The Mysterious Husband's Chase
Chapter 1395: Don’t Regret It (Part 3)
Xiao Rou smiled at him, Li Chen’s gentlemanly demeanor was still very pleasing.
After buying the vinegar, the two headed back. This time, Li Chen wasn’t as silent as before, and he smiled as he spoke, "You’re quieter than you were as a child."
Xiao Rou paused for a moment, then smiled, not saying anything.
After a brief silence, she felt it was a bit rude not to say anything when the other person had started talking, especially since Li Chen was still a guest.
"I heard from my mom that you’re planning to return to the country for development?"
Xiao Rou searched for something to say.
Li Chen nodded, "Yeah."
"That’s great."
"It is."
"So where are you working now?"
"At Shengshi."
Li Chen spoke very casually, as if it was just a normal job, but Xiao Rou couldn’t help but be a bit startled.
Shengshi Group
Because of her good relationship with Zhou Chengchen, Xiao Rou knew a bit about Shengshi Group and had even met the current head of Shengshi Group a few times.
Being at the pinnacle of the business world, Shengshi Group has many subsidiaries, and being able to enter those subsidiaries is quite impressive.
But Li Chen directly mentioned Shengshi, which means he entered the headquarters instead of a subsidiary, which is even more remarkable.
Normally, if someone said they worked at Shengshi Group, there would definitely be some pride and smugness in their tone, but Li Chen didn’t have any of that—he seemed just very ordinary.
"That’s really impressive."
Xiao Rou sincerely praised him.
Back home, the two fathers were still playing chess, and the mothers were busy in the kitchen, naturally, Xiao Rou was urged by Mrs. Xiao to chat with Li Chen.
Actually, meeting up with childhood friends and talking about some things they missed during those years was quite normal, not really awkward, but with the parents involved, the atmosphere changed, and it became somewhat awkward.
Thankfully, Li Chen was very calm and good at finding topics to talk about, casually chatting with Xiao Rou and easing much of the awkwardness.
"Time to eat."
Soon, Mrs. Xiao called out from there, and the four who weren’t busy in the kitchen all got up and headed over.
"Ah Chen, sit here."
Mrs. Xiao arranged things and naturally placed Xiao Rou next to Li Chen.
At the dining table, the parents chatted intermittently, with the fathers appearing more concerned about Li Chen and Xiao Rou’s work, while the mothers subtly shifted the conversation towards relationship matters.
Xiao Rou chuckled, while Li Chen answered the parents’ questions very gentlemanly and seriously.
"Our Rourou doesn’t listen to me. She was doing well at the Zhou Family, but insisted on resigning to open a tea shop. Tell me, isn’t having a stable job the most important thing for a young girl?"
Mr. Xiao, meeting his old friend Uncle Li over drinks, started to talk more, continuously speaking about Xiao Rou.
"Rourou has her opinions. Nowadays, there aren’t many girls with strong opinions like her."
Uncle Li responded.
"Ah, daughters grow up and become disobedient. Ah Chen, aren’t you good?"
"Actually, I think Xiao Xiao is doing well. In large companies, office competition involves scheming and plotting, Xiao Xiao is pure and doesn’t quite fit in."
Li Chen replied with a smile. Xiao Rou looked up at him, only to see her mother winking at her.
Though she didn’t say anything, Xiao Rou felt she understood her mother’s meaning clearly—look at Ah Chen, speaking up for you, isn’t that nice?
