When Love Turns the Tables: The Mysterious Husband's Chase
Chapter 1400: So That’s How It Is (3)
The light turned on, and Zhou Qi saw the shattered light bulb on the ground, along with the scattered shards. He furrowed his brow slightly, "Besides your foot, is there anywhere else that’s injured?"
"No..."
Xiao Rou hadn’t finished speaking when her hand was already picked up. There were two small cuts on her palm, fine and tiny ones that you couldn’t see unless you looked closely.
With Zhou Qi looking at her like this, Xiao Rou remembered that she’d seemed to have been pricked by the broken glass earlier.
But it really didn’t count as a wound, and Xiao Rou hadn’t paid it any mind. However, Zhou Qi still noticed it sensitively.
"Do you have a first-aid kit?"
Xiao Rou nodded, "It’s on the cabinet."
She pointed casually, and on the bedroom cabinet sat a small pink box with a red cross in the middle—it was clearly a first-aid kit.
Zhou Qi went over and took it down. The first-aid kit was small, with just some usual medications inside. He found iodine and ointment, then seriously disinfected Xiao Rou’s cuts and applied some ointment.
The cuts truly weren’t significant, and the iodine only brought about a very slight twinge, far from anything serious.
Yet Zhou Qi worked diligently, and Xiao Rou didn’t feel any pain—only reassurance from the way he held her hand.
Men’s hands are different from women’s; his were powerful, giving Xiao Rou a sense of security.
The grievances that had surged in her heart earlier seemed to have vanished somewhere; Xiao Rou only wished for this moment to slow down, to move even slower.
"Your hands are beautiful, don’t let them get hurt again."
Still lost in thought, Xiao Rou was surprised to hear such words and realized their meaning, her face instantly turning completely red.
Zhou Qi was still holding her hand, and Xiao Rou didn’t want to pull it back.
She hadn’t forgotten the gap between herself and Zhou Qi, nor the impossibility between them.
But that’s how it is when you like someone—endless fantasies often exist in front of that person.
However, fantasies are fantasies after all. After applying the ointment, Zhou Qi very gentlemanly retracted his actions, stood up, and returned the first-aid kit to the cabinet.
As he turned, he accidentally knocked down a small box next to the first-aid kit.
With a clatter, the box fell to the ground, scattering its contents everywhere.
Xiao Rou let out a startled cry, and Zhou Qi was also surprised.
He squatted down to pick up the items, and Xiao Rou, whose foot was injured, couldn’t rush over immediately—even if she wanted to—those were her treasures.
Zhou Qi picked up the items one by one. When he picked up an envelope, his hand froze slightly.
The envelope was familiar to him, precisely the one he’d seen those many years ago.
After all this time, it was still in her possession; just as he’d thought, she hadn’t given it away?
With his head lowered, Xiao Rou couldn’t see Zhou Qi’s dimmed gaze because of the envelope.
"Give me the box."
Seeing that Zhou Qi had picked up all the items inside, Xiao Rou hurriedly spoke, looking nervously at him.
Zhou Qi’s gaze darkened a little more, but he still stretched out his hand to pass the box over.
Xiao Rou handled the box like it was precious, taking out each item one by one. Although there weren’t any fragile items inside, a decoration on a small hairpin had been broken.
Feeling a bit distressed, Xiao Rou held the hairpin and examined it, trying to see if she could fix it.
