Chi Yun’er pursed her lips, smiling softly as she offered up her hand.
In one swift motion, Jiang Yihua swept her into his arms and, amidst the crowd’s roaring laughter, carried her out of the bedroom and all the way downstairs.
"Mom, Dad, please rest assured. You can entrust Yunyun to me. I will protect and cherish her with my life, and I will never let her be wronged in the slightest!"
Chi Yun’er raised an eyebrow. Back when they were just dating, she could never get him to say anything like that, no matter how hard she tried.
’Not that I’m someone who particularly cares about promises. Actions are what really matter. Beautiful words are just a pleasant deception, after all.’
’To think Jiang Yihua would make such a promise to my parents so readily.’
’He just had this convincing aura about him, as if he could truly do anything he promised.’
Mr. and Mrs. Chi had prepared themselves well emotionally. The most important thing was that their daughter wasn’t marrying far from home and had found the best possible match. Besides, she had already spent a year away working in the countryside before.
Their eyes only brimmed with moisture; before any tears could fall, their son-in-law’s words had already soothed them.
The jeep Jiang Yihua drove was decorated with a large red flower. Following behind were two lines of motorcycles, also adorned with red flowers, ridden by successful young men from the compound who were around Jiang Yihua’s age.
Chi Yun’er couldn’t help but chuckle softly, turning her head to gaze at the man’s flawless profile.
A faint blush appeared on Jiang Yihua’s face. He gave a low cough and said, "Our elders like to hear reassuring words. If you don’t even dare to make a promise, how can they trust you to take action?"
Chi Yun’er nodded. "That’s true. In that case, Brother Hua, why don’t you say a few sweet things to me every day? Even if it’s the same thing over and over, it’ll put my mind at ease."
"I’d rather show you with my actions than just talk," he chuckled, leaning forward to fasten her seatbelt. He spoke in a near-whisper, and his hot breath on her ear instantly made Chi Yun’er flush a tempting shade of pink.
The wedding was a lively, day-long affair. The afternoon reception in particular, filled with people their own age, was a riot. The wedding games and pranks came one after another. They might have been a bit cliché, but on such a rare occasion, they actually managed to get a helpless expression out of Scholar Jiang—a sight everyone agreed was too precious to miss!
By the time everyone had left, Chi Yun’er was physically and mentally exhausted, yet her spirit was buzzing with excitement.
Her cheeks were flushed from the wine she’d sipped, and with her watery eyes, she meekly trailed after Jiang Yihua as he moved back and forth.
Jiang Yihua smiled and hugged her. "Hey, if you’re tired, you should go to bed first. I’ll clean up. It’s hot out, and if I don’t deal with all these leftovers on the table, the house will be swarming with bugs tomorrow."
Chi Yun’er just kept smiling, her eyes curving into happy crescents, without saying a word.
Jiang Yihua pressed a hand to his forehead. ’Alright, I didn’t realize my wife was a one-cup drunk.’
’The way she was clinging to him, she was obviously drunk. But it was strangely adorable.’
He gritted his teeth and tried to hold back, but in the end, he couldn’t. ’To hell with whether the food spoils tomorrow. All I know is if I keep holding back, I’m not a man!’
「By the time she woke up, it was already the next afternoon.」
She stared at the strange yet familiar ceiling, then glanced at the man beside her, who was already neatly dressed and leaning against the headboard, reading a book.
She shot up, and the thin blanket slipped down.
Jiang Yihua’s eyes darkened for a moment before he silently pulled the blanket up to cover her again.
’People had always treated him like some infallible god, and gradually, he’d started to see himself that way too. In his daily life and at work, everything had always gone smoothly for him. Aside from not being able to get too close to women, he’d never had any real worries.’
’But now? After an entire night of battle, when faced with his lovely wife lazily waking up in the... no, the afternoon, his legs felt weak...’
Chi Yun’er clutched the blanket, her eyes darting around. ’This feels just like the story of Zhu Bajie eating the ginseng fruit,’ she thought. ’He ate it so fast he didn’t even taste it.’
’I’d been craving this ’meal’ for so long, and it feels like I ate it all in a dream. I can’t even remember the details...’
’My long-awaited wedding night... ruined by a single glass of wine.’
After the wedding and a day off, a radiant Chi Yun’er was driven to work by her husband, a bag of wedding candy in hand.
She first made the rounds through every department, leaving a few pieces of candy on each desk, whether she knew the person or not. Her acquaintances received creamy milk candies, while strangers got fruit-flavored ones.
Her workplace had opened a retail department with channels that guaranteed quality, a stable supply, and affordable prices. Thanks to this, Chi Yun’er could buy many things at cost.
Jiang Yihua would get Chi Yun’er’s breakfast from the cafeteria, she would go to her parents’ house for lunch, and in the evening, the young couple would cook for themselves.
Chi Yun’er was a decent cook with plenty of recipes in her head. Every evening, the aroma of food wafting from their kitchen would lure a group of children to their door. They would stand outside, inhaling greedily like mythical, cloud-swallowing beasts.
