The moment the pill entered his mouth, Ye Rong felt his whole body lighten. Ever since he’d fallen for her trick again, he’d felt a dull ache in his stomach. But now, all the pain was gone. ’Does this mean... I’m completely cured?’

Yuan Sheng and the remaining lackeys also took the antidote one after another. After noticing the changes in their bodies, Yuan Sheng’s men were the first to express their thanks, "Thank you, Sister-in-law!"

Chen Jiao frowned. "We’re even now. From now on, we’ll go our separate ways. I can let it slide once, maybe twice, but not a third time. If you fall into my hands again, I won’t let you off so easily."

Being warned to his face like that, no one would feel good about it, but Ye Rong couldn’t retort. He could only lower his head obediently. "Yes. Our grievances are settled. I won’t bother you again, Sister-in-law!"

Chen Jiao nodded slightly. "Brother Qi, let’s go."

Only after Chen Jiao and Zong Qi were far away did Yuan Sheng speak up. "Brother Rong, we’re just letting it go like this?"

Ye Rong let out a breath. "What else can we do? If we could actually kill her, that’d be one thing. But it’s obvious we’re completely helpless against her."

Yuan Sheng looked at the film crew inside, unable to hide the anxiety in his heart. "So, are we going to keep filming this movie? We don’t have much money left."

Ye Rong said, "We film. She’s in this crew, so how can we not? If we make her lose her job, just think about what she’d do to us in return."

Yuan Sheng bit the inside of his cheek. "I get it. After this movie is done, we can’t work with her on any film we invest in. We can’t afford to provoke her, but we can afford to avoid her."

Ye Rong straightened up. "That’s the idea. Let’s leave it at that. We should head back too."

After stumbling twice against Chen Jiao, Ye Rong was now thoroughly afraid of her. It wasn’t that he was afraid of someone fierce and ruthless; he was afraid of dying one day without even knowing how it happened.

He, Ye Rong, truly couldn’t handle Chen Jiao’s methods. From now on, he would avoid her. He would never appear anywhere she was!

News on the streets always traveled fast. In a private room, a long-haired man holding a wine glass watched the red wine swirl, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "So, Ye Rong admitted defeat?"

"Yes," his subordinate replied, standing respectfully to the side. "Chen Jiao gave them a small bottle and left. I saw them divide up the contents and eat it, but I couldn’t see clearly what it was."

"I’m guessing it was some kind of medicine."

"Medicine?" The man narrowed his eyes. "How do you think she took down Ye Rong and his men? She’s just a little girl."

A middle-aged man behind him spoke softly, "Ye Rong’s lackeys said that the first time Chen Jiao took them down, it was like they smelled some kind of fragrance. But the second time, they didn’t smell anything before they collapsed."

"It’s damn weird. They say in less than twenty seconds, their limbs went limp and they were completely useless, like invalids."

The man leaned forward. "Oh? Anesthesia?"

"I don’t think so. It’s more like a knockout drug, but those usually make people lose consciousness entirely. What Chen Jiao uses... it’s hard to say. Also, Ye Rong has been a frequent visitor to Old Cai these past few days."

"Word is they’ve suffered some major damage, but a medical examination can’t find anything wrong. All in all, this Chen Jiao... she’s extremely bizarre, and her methods are ruthless and unpredictable."

"Chen Jiao... she’s getting more and more interesting. Could it be that a new ’Sister-in-law’ is about to rise in the ranks?" The man put down his wine glass with a playful expression. "Keep digging up information on Chen Jiao. And don’t stop watching Ye Rong, either."

"Yes, sir." The subordinate acknowledged the order and left the private room, sighing inwardly with emotion. There weren’t many "Sisters-in-law" in the underworld, but every single one who emerged was an absolute monster.

Similar conversations were taking place all over G City, but none of this had anything to do with Chen Jiao. The more she learned about the dangers she would face in the future, the more she developed a fear of being under-equipped.

She dragged Zong Qi along to make medicinal pills for three straight days. Only after she was armed to the teeth did Chen Jiao finally breathe a small sigh of relief.

Tan You watched her sprawl out on the bed like a star and suddenly said, "I’ve had your father transferred from his current hospital to a sanatorium with excellent privacy. You’d better not go see him for a while. A lot of people are watching you."

Chen Jiao rolled over and looked at the middle-aged man lying in a hospital bed on the light screen. "My dad... he’s really handsome, isn’t he? And he’s a really good person, too."

Tan You replied, "I know. I can tell. He raised you so well, so his own character must be good."

Chen Jiao said coaxingly, "Right? My dad’s the best! Even in his condition, he’s still worried about me. I have to make him get better!"

Tan You smiled. "Alright. By the way, I’ve finished the business proposal. I’m sending it to you now."

As Tan You spoke, they tapped Chen Jiao’s forehead with their index finger. A business proposal of about ten thousand words quickly appeared in Chen Jiao’s mind. Chen Jiao forced herself to read two pages, and then... and then she couldn’t understand a single thing.

Just from the dazed look in her eyes, Tan You knew the result. They didn’t discourage Chen Jiao. "Copy it down. I’ll explain it to you word for word. When Li Shun and the others come over tomorrow, you can’t be completely clueless, can you?"

Chen Jiao sat up. "Okay, I’ll start copying it now!"

After Chen Jiao had copied three pages, Zong Qi brought dinner over. Her head spinning from the barrage of professional jargon, Chen Jiao tossed her pen aside, leaned toward the food, and took a deep breath. "Smells so good."

Zong Qi glanced at the A4 papers spread out on the table. "What are you working on?"

Chen Jiao took a sip of soup. "Didn’t Li Shun and the others need jobs? I happened to get a sum of money from Ye Rong, and I just had an idea."

Zong Qi’s hand paused. He thought of the suitcase full of money. "That’s no small amount. Aren’t you afraid of losing it all?"

Chen Jiao chuckled lightly. "If I lose it, I’ll just make Li Shun and the others sell themselves into servitude and work for me for the rest of their lives."

Even Zong Qi couldn’t help but twitch the corner of his mouth. In the next second, Chen Jiao added, "Li Shun and his friends definitely can’t handle this on their own. When you have time, help me keep an eye on things. I trust you the most."

Zong Qi’s heart suddenly skipped a beat. "Okay. I’ll help you keep a close eye on it."

Chen Jiao had already picked up her chopsticks. "Let’s eat together. From now on, I’ll focus on acting, and you can manage all this business stuff. Looking at it that way, it seems like your salary is too low."

Zong Qi sat down across from her. "It’s not low. This is fine."

Chen Jiao wrinkled her nose. "This money originally belonged to Ye Rong and his men. I think their money is dirty, so I won’t use any of it on myself. Even if this money makes more money in the future, I still won’t use it."

Zong Qi pondered for a few seconds, understanding what Chen Jiao meant. He couldn’t help but be a little surprised. "Then... if it does make money, what do you plan to do with it?"

"Charity work," Chen Jiao said without hesitation. "I can definitely earn plenty of money on my own. But this four million, and all the profits it generates, I plan to use it all for charity after paying everyone’s salaries."

"You’re very capable. How about I give you some shares? That way, you’ll have some breathing room in your life. I can’t have you working two jobs for me," Chen Jiao suggested, the thought just occurring to her.
