While Others Evolved, I Understood Reality
Chapter 80: Making The Cure
After taking care of what needed to be done after arriving at the academy, Adam received permission to take the week off.
News of what had transpired during their mission was already making waves. Something was going on. Adam’s capture the first time was strange, and had more questions than answers.
The second time was even stranger.
Assassins were a completely different story. Someone out there wanted Adam enough to send assassins after him. It begged the question... would the attempt continue whenever he stepped out? Would he even be able to take on other missions?
No one could imagine living like that.
But the boy in question did not seem to be that affected. It was as though his first time had made him immune to the bleakness of his situation. Eyes would follow him wherever he went, as students began to stay clear of him.
Who knew what those after him could do to those who moved around with him?
Adam did not take any of it to heart. He had failed to escape again, and had it not been for what that person or group wanted, his fate would have been worse. Rather than dwell on the matter and spiral into depression again, he decided to throw himself into the cure he planned to make.
Miss Xin made sure to get everything he needed to make the cure, while they focused on studying the bacteria further. With a small team of scientists and Riley, who asked to be a part of the project, Adam got to work.
Unsurprising were the symptoms the seniors and some of the technicians began to show after returning to the academy. They had been infected and wanted to be cured as soon as possible.
The academy, on the other hand, had been sceptical about Adam’s capabilities. Creating an antibiotic for a new bacterial strain was not something a teenager should be handling. The process required a lot of finesse and resources, resources that the academy would be shouldering.
Should anything go wrong, they would be held accountable. And would the public even accept something a boy no older than sixteen created? There were many considerations.
But Miss Xin had been able to convince them under the condition that Adam would be reduced to a secondary role. He would have to forfeit the credit should he succeed. After all, the resources came from the academy.
The conditions were unfair, but that was the price.
Adam accepted the condition without hesitation. He was not interested in the credit or the money. Not yet, at least. His conscience would not let him stand by after what he discovered about the bacteria.
And his main headache right now was to grow strong enough to protect himself from whoever was after him. He had no desire to live with a shadow constantly tailing him.
Adam and his team worked on creating the cure, and within three days, they succeeded. He ran the calculations himself, and the cure did exactly as he intended.
The team then ran simulations of the effectiveness and possible side effects of the antibiotics. All the simulations they ran came back positive, with results so shocking and unbelievable that they had to run them through different software.
"This is insane..."
"What in the world is that kid’s brain made of?"
"Haha. It actually targets that particular strain only. I get it, but it makes no sense!"
"All that is left is the approval for use."
"Yeah... and Miss Xin isn’t even done with studying the strain."
"That kid is wasting his potential on the other classes."
"What are you talking about? Haven’t you seen the papers he published on some of the principles in mathematics and physics? That boy is the whole package."
"How I wish I had a fraction of his genius! Imagine the name I will make for myself. Imagine the money!"
The lab went into a turmoil looking at the results. It only took a week. Just as Adam had claimed. They could not believe Adam created something that usually took months and years of painful research in just one week!
It was absurd on all levels.
"Ha... Sadly, none of the credit will be going to him. Such a shame."
"Yeah..."
"What do you think we should call the antibiotic, though? Adam doesn’t seem to care."
"I don’t know. Any suggestions?"
Adam did not care about the worries the researchers expressed. His attention was on something else. He himself was not affected. He was someone who could not get sick because of his physique.
The discovery came as a shock. His Titan Genesis was just amazing. Born at the peak of physical efficiency did more than just recover stamina at a faster rate.
’I should get back to understanding how to create physical matter.’ Adam thought to himself as he closed the Sparkblight Chapter. ’And my force manipulation still requires a bit of polishing. I should visit the training facility.’
The cure was created. It was now up to the academy to do with it what they wished. What worried him was what the academy would do with the cure after they mass-produced it.
Would they sell it at exorbitant prices? Would they use it as some kind of leverage against the people? These were genuine concerns he had and had shared with Miss Xin. Sadly for him, Miss Xin could not give him the answers he wanted.
His hands were tied. But it was another lesson about how the world worked. There was no such thing as free.
Although he did not like the idea of how the academy would handle the distribution of the cure, he understood the issue.
The resources put to use were not cheap. From the sourcing of the materials to the expertise and machinery involved, none of it was free.
That was simple math.
Adam hopped into his car, returning to the dormitory late at night. His car cruised down the road while several thoughts ran through his mind. But something caught his attention halfway to the dormitory.
A group of students were harassing a girl by the street. There was no one else around; the place was a blind spot one could easily miss at night. The poor girl begged and cried with tears in her eyes while the guys continued to mock and touch her inappropriately.
Frowning and already on edge, Adam pulled up and approached with hurried steps. "What do you guys think you’re doing?!"
