Who Needs a CEO? I Choose Stardom

Chapter 202 - 177: Missing You Is Like the Full Moon

The second deceased was thirty-one years old. He had been discharged from the military less than half a year ago.

He was swept away during a flood rescue mission in the height of summer. When his body was found three days later, it was swollen beyond recognition.

Han Su glanced at the memorial portrait hanging in the mourning hall and couldn’t help but sigh.

’Such a handsome young man! Gone just like that.’

The scriptwriter deeply understood the essence of pacing. The previous story was filled with intense conflict, even escalating to a full-blown brawl, so this one went the sentimental route, aiming to be a total tearjerker.

After eight years in a long-distance relationship, the girl finally had her love return to marry her.

They held their long-awaited wedding, and it wasn’t long before they conceived a child.

Her in-laws were kind, her husband was considerate, her job was going well, and they had a child on the way—it seemed all her suffering had finally paid off.

But...

Everything came to an abrupt halt after that rainy night.

"Why did you come back so late this time? I leave a light on for you every night, waiting to hear you knock."

"Look, our baby is moving~ He wants his daddy to feel him."

"In my dream last night, our child asked me why Daddy hasn’t been telling him stories lately."

"Darling, the rest of my life is so long. What am I supposed to do without you? Our child needs a father. Where am I supposed to find a father for him?"

...

The pregnant, newlywed wife kept watch over her departed love, whispering and weeping. Her voice was hoarse, her lips were chapped and pale, and her eyes were swollen like peaches, completely oblivious to whether her words were appropriate for others to hear.

All the relatives stood anxiously behind her, on high alert. Their eyes were fixed on her, ready to stop her from lifting the lid of the casket, and they paid no mind to what she was saying.

The body had just been brought to the funeral home yesterday when she got the news. She rushed over, charged forward heedless of everything, and held his head, getting close to him without any hesitation. She gave everyone a huge fright!

Bacteria multiply rapidly in a dead body, and decomposition is extremely fast in the summer heat. On top of that, he was pulled from floodwaters, so there was no telling if he was contaminated with other pathogens. How could the family dare let her touch him?

She was pregnant, too!

The deceased was an only son. Now, this unborn child was the apple of the family’s eye, their entire world. How could they be careless?

They didn’t dare use brute force to pull her away, so all they could do was remain on guard.

The actress playing the wife was incredibly talented. Her crying made everyone’s heart tremble.

Even after three NGs, and knowing full well that there was only a prop dummy in the coffin, the onlookers couldn’t stop their eyes from turning red again and again.

Obviously, this bit of plot wasn’t enough to sustain a complete story long enough for a 90-minute runtime.

The scriptwriter was a fan of melodrama, so they started creating conflict around the question of whether or not to keep the baby.

Take this scene, for example.

The wife’s parents received the news and arrived at the mourning hall, their faces ashen, intending to take their daughter away.

The father brought a group of relatives to block the husband’s family, while the mother went forward, grabbed her daughter’s arm, and tried to pull her up from beside the refrigerated casket.

When she couldn’t move her daughter, she started slapping the lid of the casket in frustration.

A funeral home employee immediately came forward to stop her.

Knowing she’d have to pay if she broke it—and that it wouldn’t be cheap—she stood up, put her hands on her hips, and started shouting:

"Charging ahead on nothing but reckless courage, only thinking about your own glory! Did you ever once think about the wife and child you left behind? My daughter is so young! It was her terrible luck to end up with a reckless fool like him! Xiaoqin! If you still consider me your mother, you’ll come home with me right now!"

The mother-in-law shot an inconspicuous glance at the casket and the memorial portrait, hiding the grief in her eyes. She turned her head to stare only at her daughter.

Call her cold, call her unreasonable, she didn’t care. For the sake of her daughter’s happiness, she would be the villain today!

The child couldn’t be kept!

She had to take her daughter home and dote on her properly!

She had been against their long-distance relationship all those years, watching it drag her daughter into becoming an "old maid." Now that something like this had happened, she had to cut their losses immediately. Otherwise, her daughter’s entire life would be ruined!

"No, Mom, he wasn’t a vain person like that. He was just kind. He couldn’t stand seeing others in danger. He made sure I was settled before he went to help people. It was an accident..."

Her husband had just passed away, and so tragically at that. The wife was at the height of her grief and couldn’t bear to hear him slandered, even if the words came from her own mother.

"A man with a wife and child should put his own safety first! If all you want to do is contribute to society, then you shouldn’t get married! So what if I’m being unreasonable! If any of you want to curse me out, go right ahead! You never know how much it hurts until you’re the one getting burned!"

As she ranted, her eyes turned red.

"My dear in-law, my dear in-law, please, sit and have some tea. I understand how you feel, but at least your daughter is still alive. My son..."
