Chapter 300: Chapter 176: Planting Rapeseeds! Bounty for Wild Goats and Wild Boars! Changes in the Trading Market

"Brother Chong, the bounty mission has been posted. I expect we’ll get news about paddy field Cards in less than a day."

Zhang Meng’s voice echoed from downstairs, arriving before he did.

Chen Chong spoke, "Remember, you must set the reward high enough. And it’s not just our team—everyone in the entire school needs to know we’re buying these kinds of Cards."

Zhang Meng said, "Don’t worry. I’ve already arranged for people to spread the word."

Chen Chong nodded and said no more.

Planting rice was something he absolutely had to do.

As the undisputed king of staple foods, rice was the most crucial of all crops.

Only by successfully cultivating rice could they hope to significantly alleviate the food shortage.

Things were manageable now in the Primitive Jungle, where resources were relatively easy to find. But if they later moved to a more barren environment, rice would be their true lifeline.

Chen Chong didn’t take the rice seeds with him immediately. Instead, he placed them in a drawer in the meeting room.

Other than the core team members, no one else entered this meeting room. For now, the most pressing task was to cultivate the rapeseed.

As one of the two seed bags found in the faculty apartment, rapeseed, while less valuable than Brown Rice, was still an incredibly important crop.

If they could successfully cultivate it and achieve mass production, the team would have an endless supply of vegetable oil.

It was an excellent resource, whether for cooking or other daily needs.

He decided against taking the rapeseed back to the faculty apartment to plant.

Although the farmland at his home was higher-level and offered faster growth, both he and Xu Jun lacked experience with planting rapeseed.

And while Wang Biao, Qi Zhen, and Jia Wen were quite knowledgeable about farming, a crop like rapeseed didn’t exist in their world.

Conversely, some members of the team had grown up in rural villages, helping their families with farm work. They had experience planting this kind of crop and were highly skilled.

"Jia Wen, give this bag of seeds to the leader of the farming team. Tell him to focus on cultivating this rapeseed and to make sure the survival rate is as high as possible."

Jia Wen took the seeds and nodded. "Don’t worry, Sir. I will personally oversee this and give daily reminders to ensure this crop, rapeseed, grows strong and healthy."

Considering the importance of the rapeseed, Chen Chong called out to the departing Jia Wen with another instruction, "Remember to tell him that if they succeed in cultivating the rapeseed, the team will offer a reward. It’ll be a way for the logistics team to earn points. If they can get the germination rate for this batch to be higher than average, the reward will be doubled."

"Understood, Sir. I’ll remember."

Chen Chong vaguely recalled Jia Wen mentioning before that the leader of the farming team came from a mountain village.

That was precisely why he had been made the farming team’s leader.

Entrusting this bag of rapeseed to him was clearly the best choice.

’Of course, planting the rapeseed here at the gymnasium isn’t a permanent solution. The plan is to wait until the seeds successfully sprout into seedlings, then transplant them to the farmland at home.’

’This will ensure a high survival rate. Plus, with the accelerated growth from my home’s farmland, they won’t need daily tending, drastically reducing the time until harvest.’

After looking around the gymnasium for a little while longer, Chen Chong prepared to leave.

’He was relieved, after all, to see the team falling into line with the initial plans he’d laid out.’

The logistics team was already hard at work, maintaining the team’s enterprises and ensuring the smooth operation of the gymnasium, farmland, and livestock areas.

Meanwhile, the hunting team was adapting to the new environment and finding resources, which put one of his major worries to rest.

’At least for now, the initial formation of the team seems to be a great success.’

But before he left, Chen Chong had Zhang Meng post another bounty: anyone with information on the whereabouts of large, domesticable animals near the Primitive Jungle should report it directly.

If the information proved useful, they would be rewarded with points.

If the information led to the successful capture of a large animal, the point reward would be doubled.

Chen Chong, in particular, couldn’t stop thinking about the wild sheep someone had mentioned a while back.

’After all, those are genuinely valuable livestock.’

Before he crossed over, the cornerstones of the livestock industry, aside from small poultry like chickens, ducks, and geese, were the larger animals: pigs, sheep, cattle, and horses.

Their value, when farmed, was far greater than that of wild deer.

Compared to pigs, sheep, cattle, and horses, wild deer were far inferior in terms of both ease of breeding and meat yield.

All four of these animals could be domesticated from their wild counterparts. While there were no signs of cattle or horses yet, there were leads on pigs and sheep.

Specifically, wild boars and wild mountain goats.

If they could capture even a few of these animals in the Primitive Jungle before the next crossing and bring them back to domesticate, it would be a massive windfall.

This required their full attention.

Capturing these two animals would be the equivalent of finding rice and potatoes in the world of crops; the return on investment would be far higher than for any other animal.

"Let’s go, we’re heading out."

"Brother Chong, where are we heading now?" Xu Jun asked.

"Just wandering around."

Although the threat from Extraordinary Creatures had passed for the moment, and their focus would now shift to taming the Fierce Poisonous Bees and gathering resources, there were still about three or four days left before the rainy season.
