Chapter 306: Chapter 178: Day 18 Arrives! 2 Pieces of Good News! Waterfield Card and Wild Goats’ Whereabouts

Chen Chong had to admit, the changes in the trading market were startling.

Aside from the usual stalls selling various supplies and Cards, there were now even stalls for blacksmithing, braised meats, and haircuts.

As startled as he was by the market’s evolution, it also gave Chen Chong a host of new ideas.

He planned to put his new plans into motion once this busy period was over...

After wandering the trading market for another hour or so, Chen Chong returned to the gymnasium.

Today, he didn’t plan on going out into the Primitive Jungle.

For one, he had been fighting Extraordinary Creatures constantly for a while now and was mentally and physically exhausted. He needed to give his body some time to recover.

For another, as the team’s leader, he couldn’t just throw everything to Zhong Fang and Jia Wen. He should also show his face, check on the status of their various ventures, and get a better understanding of the changes within the school.

The inside of the gymnasium was still the same as before.

People were smoking meat, tending to the fields, and feeding the farm animals.

All team members were performing their duties, and no one was slacking off just because they weren’t being watched.

After all, according to the rules set by Zhong Fang and Jia Wen, every member of the logistics team was individually accountable for their assigned tasks.

Even if someone wanted to slack off, it would be spotted at a glance in the daily team reports.

Furthermore, if slacking off led to unmet daily work quotas, or if crops withered or livestock died, they would not only be punished but would also have their daily points confiscated, leaving them with no gains whatsoever.

Therefore, when it came to their work, all members were diligent and did their best to perform as well as possible.

While spending a couple of hours on the second floor reviewing past team reports, Chen Chong saw several groups of about ten members returning to the gymnasium, looking weary and travel-worn.

Beads of sweat covered their faces, their hair matted with perspiration. Their clothes were stained with mud and grime, and they were clearly exhausted.

But their faces were beaming with the smiles of a bountiful harvest.

And indeed, that was the case.

Through the window, Chen Chong saw that they had quite a few things in their hands or backpacks.

Some had berries and wild fruits gathered from the jungle, others had fungi and mushrooms, as well as some edible insects and small animals.

Some members even had huge hauls, carrying two pheasants with extremely long tail feathers, or even a fox with a patterned pelt.

They were all members of the team’s hunting group.

Although most members wouldn’t return to the school until nightfall, some who had found a substantial haul while out searching for resources would come back early.

The reason was simple: the team provided meals.

Perhaps many people couldn’t realize the importance of those four words.

In the school’s current state, nothing was more important than food.

If one could get a meal taken care of, it was an absolutely huge convenience.

It was as good as finding an apartment before the transmigration with "all utilities included and rent cut in half."

This way, all the points they earned from their harvests could be saved up. They wouldn’t have to spend them on food or ordinary living supplies but could accumulate them until they could exchange for what they really wanted.

For example, the flesh and blood of Extraordinary Creatures, or Extraordinary Artifacts.

After all, the initial reason most members joined the team was to become the Transcendent they dreamed of being.

"Brother Chong, our members are pretty capable, huh? They can even get pheasants and foxes. Looks like it’s not just the two of us who are awesome in this school; there are others who’ve mastered a lot of survival skills."

Xu Jun, standing beside him, was also looking through the glass, watching the haul of the returning hunting parties below.

Chen Chong didn’t say much, but he felt a certain admiration for the students who were able to hunt their own meat.

’After all, the main reason I’ve been able to acquire so many resources and capture so much prey is largely thanks to my daily intelligence reports.

And the higher-tier Cards from my daily settlement. That’s how I’ve been able to snowball my power, improve my strength, and leave everyone else in the dust—becoming a Transcendent first and accumulating all these resources.

But these students, with almost no intelligence to help them, are still able to learn and adapt on their own, relying on their survival skills to catch so much prey. It just goes to show how strong their ability to learn is.

They’re a perfect fit for this kind of survival environment.

This is exactly the survival of the fittest I talked about when we first arrived.

It’s a harsh reality. Those who can’t adapt to the current environment will be weeded out, step by step.

The ones who remain are the students who have adapted to the Primitive Jungle and successfully found enough food to survive.

And this situation will just play out again in the next ecological environment we’re transported to.

We may have over a thousand students now, and they might seem like they’ve gotten used to the Primitive Jungle and this high-pressure environment.

But if we’re transported to glaciers, islands, or even swamps next time, the culling will begin all over again.

Our numbers will plummet once more.

Without a competent leader to guide everyone, with each new environment we face, the number of people eliminated will only increase. In the end, the number of remaining students might not even be a tenth of what we started with.’

And that was one of the reasons Chen Chong had formed his team.
