Xi Yu clutched his chest. "Little Eagle, my heart is racing. Am I sick?"

Pei Yin looked at him, swallowing the words on the tip of his tongue.

His face darkened. "Heh."

Xi Yu flopped forward, resting his chin on his arms.

He stared at the side of Pei Yin’s face as he focused on an experiment. "Little Eagle, are you laughing at me?"

Pei Yin looked up, the corner of his mouth twitching. "Hah."

Xi Yu’s eyes darted around. "It was my first time, too. You’re the one who didn’t get in line."

He propped his chin on his hand and made a solemn promise. "I’ll be sure to bring you along next time."

Pei Yin’s hands were always steady, but his fingers trembled when he heard that.

He tried to salvage the experiment, growing frantic. "It’s ruined! Ruined again!"

Xi Yu made a hasty retreat.

Ting Ying’s talons swiped through empty air.

Pei Yin put his hands on his hips. "Ting Ying, quick! Go kick him!"

Xi Yu dodged, and seeing that Pei Yin was serious, he quickly fled the lab.

He relocated next door, draping himself over the side of Ling Yanzhi’s bed.

"Ayan, my heart is suddenly pounding."

Ling Yanzhi’s eyelids lifted, but before he could say anything,

Pei Yin stormed out, cursing, "You, Xi! Don’t you go too far!"

Xi Yu returned to his bed and hugged the cabbage dog plushie on his headboard. "I’m just a little excited. I was so amazing last night—two hours straight."

Jian Yu: "..."

’Class was over, so she’d come to visit her brand-new spouses, only to accidentally overhear that. She froze completely...’

’Two hours straight, really.’

’His first time was clearly just a few seconds.’

’What a braggart.’

Xi Yu hid half his face behind the cabbage dog plushie, with only his eyes peeking out.

He glanced guiltily at Jian Yu in the doorway and said in a muffled voice, "Babe, class is over?"

Jian Yu smiled as she walked in. "Yeah, I had a light schedule today."

Yang Zhang climbed onto Xi Yu’s head and covered its eyes with its tentacles.

Xi Yu pried a small gap open with his fingers, his eyes sparkling.

Ling Yanzhi raised an eyebrow. "How promising."

Red Snake shot off of Ling Yanzhi like a little cannonball and hugged Jian Yu’s calf.

It coiled around Jian Yu’s calf. "Yu Baby, Master missed you a lot today."

Jian Yu bent down and held out her hand.

Red Snake took the opportunity to wind around her wrist.

Jian Yu kissed its head. "I missed your master, too."

She sat down in front of Ling Yanzhi, still supporting Red Snake. "Are you feeling any better?"

"I’m fine," Ling Yanzhi said nonchalantly.

He leaned over, wrapping an arm around Jian Yu’s waist and pulling her into his embrace.

He didn’t speak, simply holding her in silence. His sparse, straight eyelashes rested lightly against his lower eyelids, his expression serene.

Jian Yu hugged his waist tightly, resting her face against his chest.

Seeing this, Pei Yin silently turned away.

He took two steps.

’Wait, how is that fair? We’re the same!’

Enraged, Pei Yin strode over.

He placed his hand on the back of Jian Yu’s head, tilted her face, and kissed her.

After the kiss, he waved, feeling refreshed and invigorated. "Carry on."

Jian Yu blinked.

Pei Yin forcefully dragged Xi Yu away. "Didn’t you say your heart was racing? Come on, I’ll give you a thorough examination. I’ll give you some *real* treatment."

Xi Yu: "..."

A moment later, chaos erupted from the room next door.

Ling Yanzhi’s eyes flickered up.

’So lively.’

Jian Yu paused. "Ayan, I’m planning to enter the Healer ranking competition."

She loosely draped her arms around Ling Yanzhi’s neck and nuzzled him twice.

"I’m already an Intern Therapist at the school. To advance any further, I have to participate in the interstellar ranking competition."

"I need to treat more patients with severe conditions, but it’s hard for people to trust an Intern Therapist."

"The number of patients I can see is too small to be of much help, and critically ill Awakeners wouldn’t feel comfortable entrusting their lives to me."

So, she had to participate in the ranking competition.

Ling Yanzhi lowered his gaze, raising a hand to ruffle Jian Yu’s hair before removing her hair tie.

Her long hair fell loose, strands curling charmingly over her front.

His gaze drifted upward, his eyes softening. "If you want to go, then go. You don’t have to discuss it with me. A spouse isn’t meant to hold you back. If you need anything, just tell me directly. If you don’t need anything right now, just come find me... us... when you do."

Jian Yu pinched his cheek. "I’m telling you this because I care about what you think. And I don’t feel held back. I’m not much of a talker to begin with, so when I finally manage to start a topic, don’t just shut it down with one sentence."

"Hiss." Ling Yanzhi raised a hand, his brow furrowed in a smile. "Gently, you little terror."

Jian Yu let go and mumbled, "You messed up my hair first."

Ling Yanzhi’s brow shot up. "It was already messy. It was a mess when you walked in, with stray hairs sticking up all over the place."

He flicked her forehead. "You must have been running too fast."

"..." Jian Yu rubbed her forehead. It didn’t hurt, but the feeling of her soft hair falling down was a little unfamiliar.

Thinking of Sheng Yue, who still hadn’t returned, she couldn’t help but ask, "Is the Ji family’s home very far?"

Red Snake flicked its tongue, and the tail wrapped around Jian Yu’s wrist tightened.

Jian Yu glanced at Ling Yanzhi’s expression. "Zhao Jiangyou might be a problem. I’m worried. I think it’s better to bring him back and get him under control as soon as possible."

The snake’s tail on her wrist loosened slightly.

"He should be back tomorrow." Ling Yanzhi’s fingers nonchalantly threaded through her hair.

Half a minute later, he had tied it into a cute bun.

The corners of his mouth turned up. ’As expected,’ he thought, ’the simpler, the better.’

Jian Yu sighed inwardly and unconsciously pressed her lips together.

Her mouth was small, and when pressed together, her lips looked rosy and were inexplicably alluring.

Not one to deny himself, Ling Yanzhi pulled her in for a kiss.

His breath hitched, his chest rising and falling, and even the collar around his neck seemed to gain a seductive allure.

Jian Yu rested her forehead against his, steadying her breath.

’For a moment, she didn’t know what to say.’

She had always been a woman of few words, often at a loss for things to say. She didn’t have many topics to share, much like her face—subtle, plain, even bland.

Pei Yin, having overheard their quiet conversation, walked over with Xi Yu slung over his shoulder. "Every academy has slots for Intern Therapists. Now that you’ve got one, you’re going to be swamped."

He dropped Xi Yu on the bed. "You don’t lack for anything, so why work so hard? Whatever you want, just ask us. We can solve it in a heartbeat."

Jian Yu frowned in disagreement. "But I want to help you all, too. Like what just happened—they were almost killed."

Pei Yin sat down and nodded. "You’re right. It’s all Ling Gou and the others’ fault for being so useless."

It wasn’t his intention to stop Jian Yu.

He just wanted to use this as an excuse to badmouth them.

"You two..." Pei Yin began, then glanced at the sleeping Xi Yu and paused.

He turned his criticism on Ling Yanzhi. "Don’t be so reckless next time. When you need to retreat, you retreat. If you all hadn’t tried to play the hero, things wouldn’t have gotten this bad."

Ling Yanzhi nonchalantly bent one leg. "It wasn’t that we didn’t want to leave. We couldn’t."

"I have a recording." Jian Yu opened her Star Brain. "They blocked the path with all kinds of cannons. The Mecha was almost shot out of the sky."

Pei Yin glanced at the recording, his pupils contracting. "What kind of grudge would make them spend so much?"

The Star Brain flashed.

Pei Yin tapped it open. "Why is Lin Yu here?"

He granted access.

"Chief." Lin Yu’s request was approved, and he strode in. "It looks like something’s happened to the Ji Family."
