Why is This Troublemaker So Damn Rich?
Chapter 338: Here to See a Neurologist? (Part 2)
Han Chao was horrified. As Li Yang spoke, his lips trembled slightly and his eyes went wide. In his stunned state, the whites of his eyes seemed to expand as his irises contracted.
‘How could this be? Didn’t Zhao Rui say it was a sure thing? Fuck, did that asshole lie to me? But with his IQ, how could he have acted so convincingly?’
No matter what, he had to explain himself, or he was truly finished. Just making a fool of Li Yang was bad enough. But what enraged Li Yang even more was that his grand dream of conquering the entire Qingjiang Xinyue Group market, with the backing of the regional head, had now been shattered. The latter made Li Yang far more hysterical than the former.
“Boss, I really didn’t expect this. We were tricked by that asshole Zhao Rui.”
Li Yang’s fingers dug into the armrests of his executive chair. The corners of his mouth turned down involuntarily, his expression twisting with humiliation and rage. “We were tricked by an asshole? Are you trying to say I’m even dumber than an asshole? That I was played by two assholes?”
Han Chao clutched the reimbursement form in his hand, glad that he had followed up closely. Otherwise, he wasn’t sure if he’d even get reimbursed.
“You’ve caused the company a major loss. Prepare for a demotion and a pay cut. And I’m telling you now, your year-end bonus for this year is canceled.”
He opened his mouth, but no words came out. He could only swallow them back down, leaving a bitter taste.
“Get out. The sight of you pisses me off.”
After being the boss’s favorite for just one week, he had now fallen from grace. Han Chao walked out of Li Yang’s office, dejected. In his heart, he wanted to stab Zhao Rui until he was full of holes. ‘Isn’t this just fucking with an honest guy?’ The key was, Li Yang had been played right along with him. Two supposedly smart people, played by one asshole, Zhao Rui. If word of this got out, they would be utterly humiliated.
His face ashen, he walked back to his desk. While he was still a good distance away, Zhao Rui shouted, “Xiaohan, you’re so slow! Does it really take this long to get a reimbursement form from Old Li? I’m starving. Hurry up and take me to lunch.”
He was shouting like that on purpose. Using “Xiaohan” and “Old Li” was a way to show off his status. Sure enough, many people nearby turned to look at him, which gave him a great sense of accomplishment.
Han Chao laughed in anger. ‘Take you to lunch? More like take you to eat shit. Your aunt isn’t the regional general manager anymore, and you’ve been fired by Xinyue Group.’ Still, he restrained himself from cursing aloud. He was different from Yanghe Commerce; this guy had powerful connections.
No matter what, that President Zhao still had some pull in the region. She might not be able to help, but she could definitely cause trouble, which was sometimes a huge pain. If he cursed Zhao Rui out now, all the money he’d spent these past few days would be wasted, and they’d become enemies. President Zhao might even become an enemy to his side in the future. So, he had to swallow his anger. But damn, it was so fucking hard to endure. He really wanted to drag Zhao Rui out and beat the crap out of him.
He wouldn’t trade insults, but there was no way in hell he was taking him to lunch again. Li Yang wouldn’t reimburse it anyway. He returned to his desk with a cold smile. “Xiaozhao, you should hurry back to Sanyang. Something’s happened over there, you know?”
Xiaozhao? Zhao Rui looked at Han Chao, displeased, and asked casually, “What happened? Is there anything in Sanyang I can’t handle?”
‘Still fucking bragging like an idiot,’ Han Chao thought with contempt—and he despised himself, too, for having actually believed such brainless boasting before.
“An internal email from Xinyue Group went out—you’ve been fired. Your employment contract has been terminated.”
Zhao Rui’s expression turned cold. “Damn it. They’re really playing hardball. It’s fine. In a couple of days, they’ll be begging me to come back.”
Han Chao gave a dry laugh, sat down at his desk, and said, “I’m afraid you won’t get that chance. I heard the email appointing the new regional general manager for Xinyue Square has already been sent out—”
He had been waiting for this day for a long time. Ignoring Han Chao’s mocking expression, he shouted excitedly, “Finally!”
Han Chao turned to look at him, a cold smirk playing on his lips. “It’s out, but unfortunately, it’s not President Zhao.”
What? Zhao Rui’s vision swam. ‘Impossible. Absolutely impossible.’ He couldn’t accept this outcome. If this was true, he had really lost his job. His fantasy of living like a princeling in Qingjiang was shattered. ‘How could this be?’
“You’re lying to me, aren’t you, Xiaohan? Besides my aunt, who else is qualified?” he said, grabbing Han Chao’s arm.
Only he could have such baffling confidence in his aunt, President Zhao. In all his years, Han Chao had never heard anyone say that President Zhao was particularly capable.
Han Chao pulled his arm away. Being grabbed by a grown man gave him goosebumps. “So, I’m telling you to hurry back and deal with your own affairs. Any later, and it’ll probably be too late.”
Zhao Rui understood the gravity of the situation. He grabbed his bag and stumbled quickly out of Futong Commerce. On his way downstairs, he accidentally bumped into someone’s shoulder and the impact sent him sprawling onto the floor. Wincing in pain, he looked up, and gasped when he saw the person’s face— “You’ve actually infiltrated Futong Commerce’s headquarters?”
Yang Hui hadn’t expected to run into this character, Zhao Rui, here. He was amused by his words and laughed. “Are you looking for the neurology department at Qingzhou Hospital? I think you’re in the wrong place.”
Without another word, he continued on his way. He was just at the office that morning to wrap things up, since his work at Futong Commerce would be finished this weekend. Zhao Rui was walking in a daze, and Yang Hui was lost in thought, which was why they had collided.
He hadn’t been home to see his parents in a while and was thinking that after leaving Futong Commerce, he could take a few days off to visit his hometown. But then this oaf had bumped into him, breaking his train of thought.
