Wilderness: I Tame Beasts to Survive
Chapter 630 - 391: Kill (2)
Chapter 630: Chapter 391: Kill (2)
"When it comes to the density of Extraordinary Beings, Ludao is comparable to some of the major cities in the central region. It’s not only the foremost city in Minyue but also a vital port for the overseas islands. No other city in the province can match its prosperity."
"So, reaching Tier Seven or higher makes you a top-tier expert," Han Ning mused.
As they spoke, the two entered the mountain forest. The path ahead suddenly narrowed, becoming rugged and winding, barely wide enough for a single car to pass.
The pitch-black mountain forest was like a giant mouth, waiting for them to enter.
They had expected something to happen, but the journey was surprisingly peaceful.
After they had traveled for over a hundred li along the mountain path,
a faint white mist suddenly began to spread out before them.
The downpour from earlier had long since stopped.
The dark clouds receded, and soft moonlight spilled down.
Through the sparse branches,
a village with dozens of old houses came into view.
"There’s a village this deep in the mountains?" Han Ning asked in surprise.
"This is Jade Pagoda Village, the entrance to the ruins. The small village you see before you is actually a historical site from several hundred years ago."
Walking into the village, Han Ning discovered that although the place was small, it had everything—a blacksmith’s shop, a restaurant, an inn, and more.
In the village, there was also a vast, ancient courtyard, quaint and classical in style, built all the way from the foot of the mountain up to the hillside.
Within the courtyard, a forest of Ancient Towers stood, supporting ancient buildings with red walls and yellow-tiled roofs.
Moss crept up the outer walls of these buildings. The once-vibrant vermilion lacquer, weathered by time, had long been mottled and had peeled off for the most part, leaving behind only an air of decay.
"Truly magnificent," Han Ning couldn’t help but exclaim.
He had seen many colossal structures in the Purple Crystal World, but it was rare to see architecture so rich in Xia Country style, yet so filled with an air of decay.
Standing beneath the magnificent mountain architecture, the two of them were like ants facing a giant.
"Turns out there was never a Jade Pagoda Village here before. It only appeared suddenly ten days ago. Otherwise, there’s no way the Foreign Affairs Team wouldn’t have discovered it."
Li Changxi glanced at the time on his watch.
"The Tower Forest will open in two hours. Let’s find a cleaner house and wait."
...
The sky was dark, and brilliant moonlight spilled across the land.
Deep in the night, on the second floor of a dilapidated inn, inside a guest room lit by a faint lamp,
the window lattice was slightly ajar, letting in a gentle night breeze.
"Tian, let’s stop drinking. We still have business to take care of later."
A wide variety of cooked foods covered the round table. The man with the sheathed sword had his arm around a voluptuous, scantily clad woman. His rough hands were roaming all over her, leaving the beauty in his arms breathless.
"Shut up! Drink!"
The man’s expression was savage. He roughly forced the wine into the silver-haired, seductive woman’s mouth, then tore open her clothes and mounted her.
But the very next second, the dull thud of a body hitting the floor echoed in the room.
Outside the door, a ghostly figure flashed past. The newcomer immediately shut the slightly open window tight, and the faint sounds of a conversation could be heard from within.
From the top of a distant tower, a pair of sharp eyes watched everything in silence.
In a one-story house at the other end of the village,
Han Ning, who was sitting on a simple bed, suddenly snapped his eyes open.
He had just sat up when he heard the sound of faint, almost inaudible footsteps outside.
CREAK...
In the silent surroundings, the sound of someone working on the door was jarring.
The room was pitch-black, so dark you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face.
Han Ning stood silently on the floor, his gaze fixed eerily ahead.
Across from him, Li Changxi opened his eyes a moment later, staring in astonishment at Han Ning’s side.
A long snake, shrouded in a cold mist, floated above his head.
At his feet, a small, quiet white dog crouched.
Just as the person outside pried open the locked door and gently pushed it open a crack,
a cold current swept past, and an icy breath blasted out.
Almost simultaneously, the sound of a blade cutting through the air came from behind the door.
BOOM!
The tip of a light purple sword traced an arc of eerie purple fire, slicing through a layer of the misty, icy breath.
But more of the cold mist formed a torrent, slamming into the dilapidated door.
The wooden door shattered into fragments that flew in all directions, revealing a figure staggering backward outside.
It was none other than the man in the black windbreaker from before.
He was covered in Ice Crystals. The purple longsword in his hand, Wisdom-Eroding, continuously radiated a sinister, dark purple halo, helping him counteract the frostbite from the cold.
Even so, his entire body was still bluish-purple from the cold. He exhaled great clouds of white mist, and he struggled to focus his eyes.
"So it’s you. Die!"
Unwilling to give up his advantage, Han Ning pressed the attack. With a howl, Frost Jade shot out from his feet and through the doorway.
Three fist-sized fireballs, in a triangular formation, blocked the windbreaker-clad man’s escape routes.
Seeing this, the man in black forced himself to rally. He gripped Wisdom-Eroding, his muscles tensing. A surging, purple Flowing Light poured endlessly from the blade. He took a sudden step forward with his right foot and thrust Wisdom-Eroding out with overwhelming force.
Instantly, a flurry of cold glints from the blade rained down on the fireballs.
The purple sword light wove into a dangerous curtain of blades, slicing the fireballs into dozens of fragments that fell to the sides.
He used the momentum to retreat, executing a nimble flip over a wall. Clutching his frostbitten arm, he hurriedly ran for the inn’s exit.
The man moved extremely fast, his body leaving a trail of purple afterimages, like a human sports car.
’Go after him. I want him alive.’ He sent the command to Egg Pancake and Frost Jade.
"HISS~" "WOOF~"
The two little ones acknowledged the order, dashed out the door, and vanished into the night.
"Mr. Han, I’ll go too," Li Changxi said, drawing the Wooden Sword from his waist.
"No need to rush."
Han Ning shook his head slightly, then suddenly looked up toward the southeast corner of the room, by a ceiling beam.
He reached out with his right hand, and a faint red and white glimmer appeared at his fingertips.
Five nearly invisible threads shot out.
At the same time,
his Spiritual Power formed an invisible blade and followed close behind.
A faint shuffling sound came from above the beam.
A pained grunt echoed through the quiet room.
Han Ning tugged with his hand.
A transparent, illusory figure fell from the ceiling beam.
As she fell, her body materialized inch by inch.
「On the other side.」
’COUGH, COUGH, COUGH... This pressure... definitely a Tier Six expert. An unknown expert.’
The man in the windbreaker trembled, his expression grim. His feet tapped continuously as he moved like a nimble old ape, darting quickly between the village rooftops.
Unexpectedly, just as he landed after a flip, he suddenly felt a gust of wind attack him from the side.
He subconsciously raised his sword to defend.
A dark shadow suddenly descended from the sky, swiping viciously at his eyes.
CLANG!
Talons clashed with the sword blade, creating a dazzling shower of sparks.
’An owl? He knows falconry too!’ Chen Li Changxi was shocked. He hastily parried the human-sized owl and pushed off with his feet, trying to get away.
KREEE~
Its first strike having failed, Little Fatty Silkworm flapped its wings and flew back into the sky. It banked mid-air, the muscles in its wings suddenly bulging as it pushed off the air, creating a visible ripple.
Carrying the momentum of its descent, it attacked the fleeing man in the windbreaker.
"Damn it!"
The man in the windbreaker switched his sword from his right hand to his left. The purple light on the blade flared, and his body shriveled at a visible rate. He then raised the sword to block.
BOOM!
The talons, carrying immense power, slammed down.
Like a nail, the man was driven straight into the ground by Little Fatty Silkworm’s terrifying, monstrous strength.
An irresistible shockwave traveled from the sword blade into his body.
PTUI!
The corners of his eyes split open, and his eyeballs bulged.
Dark blood trickled from his eyes, ears, nose, and mouth.
He trembled uncontrollably, spitting out mouthful after mouthful of black blood. It was clear he wouldn’t survive.
"Coo?"
Little Fatty Silkworm folded its wings and landed in front of the man, staring at him with a puzzled expression.
’That’s it? He couldn’t even block one strike from this silkworm... coo... this eagle.’
’Monsters... They’re all monsters. Even a randomly summoned pet has the strength of at least a Tier Six...’
The purple halo continued to stimulate the man’s life force. He still wasn’t completely dead. With bloodshot eyes, he stared blankly at the black owl that was almost as tall as he was.
"HISS..." "WOOF!"
Egg Pancake and Frost Jade caught up. Seeing the man’s miserable state, they couldn’t help but exchange a glance before looking back at Little Fatty Silkworm with odd expressions.
"Coo?" Little Fatty Silkworm scratched its head as if to say, ’What’s up?’
Before long, a figure completely shrouded in a black robe emerged from the forest path ahead, bathed in the moonlight.
