Will of a Prince
Chapter 273: Greatest Creation in the History of the World
"There were three providences at one point? Or rather, were they clans of providences?"
Gabriel started grabbing food from the buffet. He had a feeling this information was going to be a lot to take in. He offered some to Avala, but she lifted her hand in refusal.
"Indeed. The head of each clan was Zalo for the Corrupters, the Great Serpent for the Luminators, and the Frost Monarch for the Frost Legion. It is said that there was originally only supposed to be one God created from the cosmos. However, something appeared to go wrong in the creation process and three beings spouted from stardust on to this world. Each one had a power that opposed the other. Or rather, two of them did while the third one, the Frost Monarch was unique. We can talk about him in a moment."
Everyone remained silent, listening intently to Annis’s words.
"You see, Zalo believed that chaos was a necessity in this world. Existence simply didn’t make sense without it. Therefore, using his powers, he created creatures of chaos to roam these lands and thrive on their own. However, the Great Serpent was the opposite. The believed harmony was all that was necessary for existence. So, they too created creatures of light to roam the lands and combat Zalo’s forces to stave off the corruption. The two forces were gridlocked for eons without a winner. The landscape of this world changed with every battle. Oceans created, jungles thrived, meadows blossomed with fresh life, each one harboring its own unique ecosystem."
"So, what did the Frost Monarch do while all this was happening? Did he really just sit back and watch?"
"Actually, that’s the thing. He fought for both sides."
Gabriel’s heart dropped.
"What? You mean he was capable of doing that?"
"Indeed. The Frost Monarch, like I said before, is a very unique God. His powers are neither just corruption nor just light, he is a flux of both of them combined."
"He controlled both kinds of powers?! Was he more powerful than both of them then?"
"Well, not exactly. You see, the amount of corruption and light in his body was changing so frequently that there were times he could have been eighty percent corruption but only twenty percent light whereas other times he could be seventy percent light and thirty percent corruption. When I said his powers were a flux, I meant that they were constantly fluctuating between the two kinds that existed. He was never just one or the other, and because of that, he would sometimes fight for one side or the other."
Avala rubbed her head.
"That sounds... very conflicting. Did that affect his mind in some way too?"
Annis shrugged her shoulders.
"I can’t begin to comprehend what the mind of a god looks like, but if that were a human, there is no way it wouldn’t be conflicting. I would imagine it as someone being bipolar but, on a god-level scale."
Hearing that analogy gave the group goosebumps. The thought of having a god as an ally that could turn on you because they felt like it was terrifying to think about.
"What would happen if he happened to become a perfect fifty-fifty?"
Annis smiled.
"Then, you would have successful created the first generation of humanity."
Garno and Ferro remained silent while Annis laughed hysterically.
"Sorry, the look on all your faces is priceless! I know it may be hard to believe, but that is exactly how humanity came to be. A creature that was capable of infinite despair, yet boundless hope. That is what humans were and always will be. Some may say it was even the greatest creation in the history of the world, the perfection of combining two opposite powers into one being."
"What about creatures who were still a mix of light and corruption but weren’t fifty-fifty?"
"Ahh, that is how the frost legion was formed. However, it is a bit different than the Frost Monarch in the sense that their percentages do not constantly fluctuate. They are all simply stuck at one side or another. Too dark or too light with no balance."
Gabriel leaned back in his chair and ran his hands through his hair while staring at the sky. This information was all too much to take in. He knew it would be crazy, but to think that there was this many things hidden about the world was incredible. However, the more he was listening, the more he had an idea of where this story was going.
"To think that this whole time we were all just some... amalgamation. I don’t know what to say."
"Then don’t say anything. Does knowing the truth make you feel any different about yourself?"
"Truthfully, kind of. That means we’re all technically part god, right?"
"Well, that’s the thing I want to talk about next. You are right, but you are also wrong. Or rather, it probably works a different way than you think."
"Go on."
"While it is true we, humanity, are all part god, that does not mean everyone can call upon godly powers. Otherwise, everyone would have a Zalo or Serpentine or some other blessed power at their disposal. Serpentines are the power of the Great Serpent if you didn’t understand. However, even though we cannot call upon godly powers, humans have an affinity to it."
"What do you mean?"
"If I recall, you people like to measure your steps of mastery with singularity, multiplicity, and divinity. However, there is no need to label these goals as separate at all when the growth is very linear with God-like powers. How long did it take for you to get a grasp of your Zalo when you first received it?"
Gabriel tried to recall, but he remembered it not taking very long. Most of it felt very natural, but that would differ with some people. However, even those who struggled initially learned incredibly quick.
"Not very long to get the hand of it, but mastering it is a whole other ordeal."
"And yet, we all still have the potential to master them. Not just master them either. We all have a chance to evolve them to something greater, push the power beyond the limits it was designed for. You’ve just seen it happen, didn’t you?"
Gabriel recalled Zoey’s final transformation into Defiled.
"We’re really capable of something like that?"
Annis squinted and looked away.
"Actually, I am slightly unsure of how she was capable of transforming into such a powerful creature. I noticed that even Zalo couldn’t put her flames out. She is truly an anomaly among people who use these kinds of powers."
Gabriel’s mind flashed back to viewing the massacre of Monlo Empire. It truly was chaos in every meaning of the word. He hesitated for a few moments before asking a very important question that now plagued his mind.
"So, what exactly is that we will be doing? Are we going to be spreading chaos? Spreading corruption? What exactly is the goal of someone who follows Zalo?"
Annis waved her hand.
"I will tell you in just a moment. Let me finish and I will answer."
Gabriel nodded and leaned forward.
"The Great Serpent was disgusted with the corruption stuck inside our bodies. It offered to teach all those willing to hear the benefits of using their light power and how it was much better than corruption. As you can assume, Zalo said the same thing for his powers. This initial struggle ultimately led to the first human conflict between God’s and people. The battles were so bloody and costs so high, humanity was almost completely wiped out. However, in a strange turn of events, all three Gods found themselves on their deathbed. Care to guess what did them in?"
Gabriel had a feeling he knew what it was, but he decided not to answer.
"By that look on your face I can tell you already know. It was humans. Humans were the ones that turned on their creators in the end. The craziest part is some of them were doing out it of hate while others were doing it simply because they thought it was the only way for peace to prosper. There were even some who viewed it as an act of love for our creators to finally put them to rest. Therefore, in Zalo’s final moments, he dispersed his powers out into the world, giving his strongest abilities to six lucky souls, ensuring that each one’s powers were opposite. He did this so neither three could have an advantage over the other."
"So, what happened to all the clans? Where did they go for all this time?"
"What else do you think happened? They were all hunted down relentlessly by each other. The Trio’s were capable of surviving because everyone was so distracted fighting themselves, they forgot about us."
Annis poured herself more wine while continuing to speak.
"Oh, yes. I forgot to mention. If you are wondering how it was possible for humans to be created when both deities can only make a creature of light or corruption, it is because we spouted from the fallout of all their battles. As was the case with multiple other Frost Legionnaires, only their contents were ever so different. In fact, if there was even a millionth of a difference in our composition, we wouldn’t exist. Crazy, right?"
Gabriel rubbed his head as more and more information flooded in.
"What is this all for? Can you just tell me what it is you want us to do?"
Annis sighed.
"Fine. I’ll tell you, but remember, there’s no going back now. You already agreed to help us."
Gabriel remained silent waiting for an answer.
"There is a resurgence of all three clans once more. There will be another War of Providences in this lifetime, and we need to prepare. We need you to help us cleanse this world of every other power, allowing Zalo to be the stand-alone god of this world."
